Diamond P Sports was so far ahead of its time. Even with 1080 p and 4K TV, the content quality of Diamond P is still the best I’ve seen in all my years of viewing Motorsports coverage. Steve Evans is dearly missed as well
This was definitely one of my favorite times in auto racing the greats, I watched nearly all of these on TV on the sports channels. ESPN 16 great times back then.
Well, back then it was real racers going to the track and having a real shot at racing and maybe winning. Today's NHRA it's like a closed circuit and basically the same people racing each other every race just like fishing in a barrel !
@@freedomofspeech2238 you had the same names going against each other ack then too. The 80s was so amazing because records were constantly broken in terms of top speed and ets

“Nobody will ever come close to the 75 wins of Bob Glidden” Heading into 2023: John Force - 155 Greg Anderson - 100 Warren Johnson - 97 Tony Schumacher - 86 Bob Glidden - 85
Anyone know what the name of the song playing at 45:10 is ? Been looking for years and cannot find it. Update: after 25 years of searching, perseverance has paid off, the piece of music playing is called FUTURELAND 1 by Adam Routh and Patrick Wilson from the cosmopolis album from Bruton Music.
@@o0oStillWeRiseo0o this same tune would be later popularized in the 2004 SpongeBob episode "The Krusty Krab Training Video", where it's used in several montages and even on the end credits (DVD and VHS only, due to streaming having it be cut out and TV doing split screen credits.) It would also appear in the 1989 San Francisco 49ers sizzle reel made by NFL films, though it's more brassy. It also appears on "The Loud House" and "Camp Lazlo", and even on the 1990 Leslie Nielsen movie "Repossessed". And there was a more guitar oriented version of it being used on "The Man Show". This exact tune also appeared once in a commercial for Dawn dish soap and most recently, the Pennsylvania Lottery. This track is my favorite Stock track due to it's aggressive, but cheesy approach.
+Raymond Flowers Good old Buster Couch.. Buster sure witnessed some awesome nitro explosions over the years. Buster ran the tree back when NHRA drag racing was the real deal and the independent team could still win a national event. Today its Commercialized cookie cutter racing with Multi million dollar sponsors..NHRA wants to be just like NASCAR pushing out the little guy..
The reason indepedents can't win today is due to it being so competitive and data driven. It's no longer based on gut feelings and lucky setups that worked. The engines are way more stabile today and the science behind it, is a lot more structured and mature. Computers and data driven development has created this and it will not go away if we change rules. People will still make billet engines on a 5-axis for small classes.
Torrence is not much of a champion taking a punch at a competitor but NHRA decided to kiss his rear and let him keep the points and win the championship

I wish I could go back in time and live the 70's 80's and 90's all over again with all the pain that goes with it !
Absolutely
this is much better racing than what we have today!

Owners and teams were more focused on racing than they were on trying to make a dollar real racing bag then.

was different back then. Only about 10 events a year for MOST of the 1980's unlike 21 to 22 events in NHRA Today. Alot more chances to get WINS now.
@@jimnfl7134 Force still beats out that average by a good margin, even accounting for double the events per year.
@@mtfan I know Force would still have MORE WINS than anyone ever. Just saying how things have changed since 1980's.
Haha records are made to be broken gotta love it
@@jimnfl7134exactly…that’s a ridiculous win rate. Especially considering how dominant Lee Shepherd was as well during Glider’s run
