But Dorothy stopped coddling Sophia and made her do her exercises. Eventually, Sophia managed to regain her ability to walk and talk. Despite my opinion of Lily; I admit that Polly Holliday gave a great performance as Lily.
It's really messed up once you realize that Kirsten was fully upset over money, like why did she care if rose had anything to leave over. Also when Kirsten's daughter,Charlie, mentions that she only ever heard that her grandpa was rich implies Kirsten never talked about more than his earnings.

Having been in Lily's position. It is very understandable that she was scared and didn't know how to move on. Rose was right to force her to be independent. It just seemed like 2 women being really good sisters to each other. Which is why Lily came back she thanked Rose for getting her to be strong.

Dr. Elliot was one of the best episodes ever - perfect combination of drama & humor: "He's lyin'. And blinkin'. And twitchin'" Then Rose is like: "He *_is_* blinking, Dorothy" 😆
I don't know about Lily, her background makes her case more sympathetic, to me. An independent woman suddenly becoming blind, still trying to live her life normally, then coming to the crushing realization that her old way of life is all but gone. That has to be terrifying. For all we know, that kitchen fire probably wasn't the first time something like that's happened to her since she lost her sight. I can also understand there being a period of leaning heavily on family dependence, especially if family's all you feel you can trust with this issue as opposed to a group of strangers. I don't know, she isn't _so_ bad that I think would warrant her being on the list, especially next to some absolute scumbags.
not trying to spoil it for those who didn't see the episode but it does have a happy ending. Lily gets a wonderful solution. As you can tell, that episode really affected me.
Kirsten really does come off as intensely hypocritical. She has no higher morality for demanding why all of “daddy’s hard earned money” went, she wanted it for herself
Not to mention when she returns in the final season she acts like the girls are nothing more than roommates and are not her family at all. Kirsten was a very judgemental woman and I'm not even sure why
I honestly think Miles was perfect for Rose, but the writers ruined him in the Golden Palace and labeled him as a cheater. Same with Jerry, I was genuinely curious to how the writers would write his and Balnche's relationship and wanted to see it work. But the big guy never appeared again...
I feel there's a couple relationships of Blanche's that might have worked out if the writers had decided to do so. Besides Jerry, Blanche dated a blind guy named John Quinn and they seemed to have worked out their issues by the end of the episode he was on to have a real relationship.
I find it ironic that Dorothy and Rose were amazing mothers in the show and their kids ended up being rude, reckless, and selfish people (except Kate) while Blanche wasn’t such a great mother and her kids are very like-able such as Rebecca and even Janet to an extent.
Michael was a prime example of one of the bad kids on the show. First, sleeping with Rose's daughter and fast forward to Season 5 (The last time we saw him, he quits his job and just plays around with his life).. I never was fond of his attitude and the way he treated Dorothy.
If I had to choose between Rebecca and Janet, Rebecca is the one who is way better than Janet. Rebecca is kind and wants a relationship with her mother unlike her other children. We never see her sons and Janet seems to like dumping her kids on Blanche while treating her like dirt
Yeah he was a real scum bag. Especially in the episode where he absolutely refuses to marry her again until she signs a prenup to secure his assets even though the first time they married then divorced because of his adultery.
I didn't really like Kirsten until the episode where Rose had her heart attack and she wouldn't let Dorothy, Blanche, and Sophia see her in the hospital because they weren't Rose's family. Holly was more detestable as she excluded Rose from activities and slept with a man Blanche was dating.
Honestly I don't hate Lily, I don't see why someone would, she was just struggling with being blind suddenly, and by the end of the episode she was able to go to the school to learn how to live her life without seeing, people aren't perfect, she wasn't a liar or a cheat
The bigoted next door neighbor who wouldn't pay for damages caused by fallen tree, the house inspector that almost separated the girls, Rose's other daughter who wouldn't let the other ladies visit Rose when she had a heart attack .
I feel the inspector was doing his job and seemed happy when they found a solution. Kirsten was definitely a horrible, infuriating person. The neighbor was definitely a jerk as well

She may come around in the end, but she’s really an obnoxious person who had everything handed to her in life, she thinks she better then Dorothy even when her life falls apart, and Sophia constantly is taking her side no matter the situation. In fact, she’s pretty pathetic considering in season one she confessed to Dorothy that Sophia never had hope for her to make it on her own and counted on her marrying rich. Overall, I really don’t care for her.

I think it isn't just that. Long distance relationships are difficult and Rose left for good... So they either had to bring him back with the new series (not even sure the actor wanted to continue) or separate them.

Its possibly narcissism and/or psychopathy in these people who hate blind, disabled and sick who can't function much anymore. I have symptoms of a rare disorder and cancer - bent sternum, special ed for several years, failed several grades and maybe going blind from Homocystinuria plus had a test show cancer and have end stage symptoms. Its not right and just evil when I get hate or no (reasonable) empathy. These People need to go through something life changing and Permanently bad with no empathy from others for decades. People need to know what its like to suffer in some way.

I can’t hate Miles to be honest. He was protecting himself and then Rose against a dangerous man. He didn’t do it to be malicious or because he was a pathological liar. Edit: I just found out he cheated on her on The Golden Palace. I never finished it, so never mind what I said earlier lol.
I just hate Dorothy and Rose’s daughters so much. Imagine one guilted her mother into compromising with her coward cheating father and got mad when Dorothy tried to protect her from her own cheating husband. And the other told her daughter nothing other than her grandpa was rich then got mad at her mother for spending his money. Not to mention the cruel way Rose’s daughter spoke to the girls when she was hospitalized and in critical care.
With her famous line: Kiss my Grits! Alice was another brilliant show. I also loved Kate and Allie, which premiered around the same time as The Golden Girls. I miss the 70s and 80s. The best era ever. Clothes. Style. Chic. Everything. And for the record, Charlie’s Angels and Policewoman were the best cop shows. That era simply ruled!
Don't forget the b-witchy Mrs. Deagle from Gremlins and Gloria in a brief cameo from Mrs. Doubtfire. I despised Mrs Deagle more than Gloria though: insulting Billy and his dad after the snowman was destroyed, (although admittedly, bringing Barney to work with him probably wasn't the best move) Her blackmailing him into giving Barney to her to be put-down, ess for no good reason, and then gleefully taunting him about what she'd do if he refused. Mrs. Deagle and F. Claxton had a lot in common: I wanted to deck them both a few times, and didn't really care when Mrs D was killed by the mutated gremlins. Sometimes, you reap what you sow. And just for the record, I didn't hate Lily, but I do think Rose mis-worded some things, when people have to adjust to newly being blind or going deaf it's an adaptive process and shouldn't be rushed. The actor who played Kirsten in this particular scene plays Kirsten so differently from the way the other actor portrayed her in the hospital episode. I actually felt like the Kirsten in this episode was truly concerned for her father's hard work, and how Rose could have squandered his hard-earned money away. Of course, I place part of the blame on Rose for lying to her kids about who their father really was, and for making him sound like someone that he wasn't. If they had known the truth about their dad, it's possible that they would have appreciated what they had more. In the hospital episode, I wanted to smack Kirsten for her aloof, bratty attitude. Even though Miles lied to Rose about his real identity, I feel bad for him due to the situation that he was in. It certainly would have been awkward for Rose, but he had to live his life the best way that he could, including his love life. As far as Virginia is concerned, the only person to "hate" in that scene was Blanche because Virginia is dead on target about her being selfish. The truth bites like a rattlesnake sometimes.
Also about Gil looking back it's shitty that he was the first trans character in the show and his entire status as a trans man is made into a punchline and a plot twist
What I really hated about Gil was using Blanche as an attempt to boost his own confidence by claiming he slept with her. But that episode also angers me b c once again, political figures and celebrities can't have any privacy with their personal life. Blanche was kinda childish at the end as well, crossing her fingers after possibly ' stretching the truth' some more with the others. Even as a bonus, I'm glad you mentioned Ted, who's not that much different than Stan, with having younger women as partners or flings. I loved how Dorothy embarrassed him towards the end, that was a riot!
😂How sweet of the PAtrick character doing his best to keep discreet secrets. Up until the throw of course. The throw before another knot gets tied. Afrer offering the usual recommendation through example or outright saying so. Whichever comes first. Getting a pair of contact lenses to look discreet.

I do not agree with Kirsten, Miles, Lily, and Gloria on the list. Kirsten was upset because she was lied to and it took a while for her to see her mother’s reasoning on why Rose lied about Charlie being a success. Miles did love Rose and you can see it through the later seasons. The writers did his character dirty in Golden Palace. Lily was blind, going from a independent lifestyle to being dependent is frustrating. I think a lot of people would react like she did. What Lily went through is something anyone would find terrifying because your losing your sight, something we are used to and dependent on. Gloria did care about her sister, she even apologized to Dorothy later in the second part episode for sleeping with Stan because she saw how much of a pig he is. She realized she was wrong and wanted nothing to do with him. Sofia even admits to setting up the relationship, Sofia knew how Stan was but she did it anyway because she did not think of the consequence of how Dorothy would react.
Or Virginia, she was spot on about Blanche being a bastion of selfishness. Her actions during her father's funeral were inexcusable. She did not even apologize for acting like that. As much as her father had been her rock and support all Blanche did was antagonize her sister who was right. Blanche had a heart but she did not show it then. She was way out of line.

She was expecting a bigger share of the money she thought her father had earned, which is a total bitch move, since that money (if there was any ) was most certainly for Rose as the mother and wife! Lily also played the victim after putting on a brave face to seem more pathetic than she really was and it was that victimization and gaslighting that forced Rose to tell her to fend for herself. Gloria was Considered self-centered because she would never “slum it with this side of the family”, as Stan states until her only achievement (marrying money) was gone. Another brave face act, like Lily’s and then she collapses in front of the very people she’s snubbed and belittled all those years! And then she “gets conned ” to get hooked up with her sister’s rich ex husband (twice!!!) They should’ve added Sophia to this list for constantly harassing, belittling, insulting, Conning and using Dorothy all this time and to put salt in the wound, Asking Dorothy why she never liked her “good daughter”. Then she hooks Dorothy’s ex con husband on Gloria and thinks it’s permissible because “mother knows best”?!? Dorothy should’ve kicked all three of those deadbeats out of her life and married John Neretti! And finally, Stan. Oh Stan… That narcissistic chauvinist that could only exist in the 80’s & 90’s….. he got what he deserved in that he ended up alone and watched the ONE GOOD thing in his life walk down the isle on the arm of a better human being. And so there you have it, dear. Thank you and good night. 🌙 Oh. Ps. Miles might be said to have done the same to Rose that Rose did to Kirsten so that makes him a bad guy by your reasoning. Some of these people on this list don’t belong on “hate” list. Miles, Kirsten, Lily, Gloria, Virginia, , it isn’t like they meant to hurt or meant to cause any trouble, they just had a certain feeling or circumstance that caused a situation.
kirsten wasn't a nice person and Gloria was messed up by sophia which messed up her relationship with dorothy. Still at their age gloria should have done some therapy or self reflection and improvement to realize that taking out her animosity for sophia out on dorothy was just silly. I'm so glad therapy is more widely accepted today.

I am going to disagree with you about Kirsten. A child has no entitlement to what money their parents made or items they acquired. What her mother does is her mother's business and she wasn't at all asking Kirsten for money or relying on her. The reaction about her mother's personal business, between her and Charlie, is not hers to meddle in, unasked.
Kirsten was always so mean in the episodes she was in, had no idea how she could have been related to Rose. She was probablly my least favorite Golden Child. I actually really loved Miles and thought he was perfect for Rose and vice versa. I like to pretend the show ended with them getting married rather than the incredibly infuriating ending we actually got-- just like I like to pretend Dorothy never left instead of getting married to a guy she had known for at best a few weeks. :P

An independent woman suddenly becoming blind, still trying to live her life normally, then coming to the crushing realization that her old way of life is all but gone. That has to be terrifying. For all we know, that kitchen fire probably wasn't the first time something like that's happened to her since she lost her sight. I can also understand there being a period of leaning heavily on family dependence, especially if family's all you feel you can trust with this issue as opposed to a group of strangers. I don't know, she isn't _so_ bad that I think would warrant her being on the list, especially next to some absolute scumbags.

I find it ironic that Dorothy and Rose were amazing mothers in the show and their kids ended up being rude, reckless, and selfish people (except Kate) while Blanche wasn’t such a great mother and her kids are very like-able such as Rebecca and even Janet to an extent.

If I had to choose between Rebecca and Janet, Rebecca is the one who is way better than Janet. Rebecca is kind and wants a relationship with her mother unlike her other children. We never see her sons and Janet seems to like dumping her kids on Blanche while treating her like dirt

I’m glad Gloria made the list. She may come around in the end, but she’s really an obnoxious person who had everything handed to her in life, she thinks she better then Dorothy even when her life falls apart, and Sophia constantly is taking her side no matter the situation. I have symptoms of a rare disorder and cancer - bent sternum, special ed for several years, failed several grades and maybe going blind from Homocystinuria plus had a test show cancer and have end stage symptoms. Its not right and just evil when I get hate or no (reasonable) empathy. These People need to go through something life changing and Permanently bad with no empathy from others for decades. I just hate Dorothy and Rose’s daughters so much. Imagine one guilted her mother into compromising with her coward cheating father and got mad when Dorothy tried to protect her from her own cheating husband. And the other told her daughter nothing other than her grandpa was rich then got mad at her mother for spending his money. Not to mention the cruel way Rose’s daughter spoke to the girls when she was hospitalized and in critical care.

Mrs. Deagle and F. Claxton had a lot in common: I wanted to deck them
both a few times, and didn't really care when Mrs D was killed by the
mutated gremlins. Sometimes, you reap what you sow.
And just for the record, I didn't hate Lily, but I do think Rose mis-worded
some things, when people have to adjust to newly being blind or going deaf

The actor who played Kirsten in this particular scene plays Kirsten so differently from the way the other actor portrayed her in the hospital episode. I actually felt like the Kirsten in this episode was truly concerned for her father's hard work, and how Rose could have squandered his hard-earned money away. Of course, I place part of the blame on Rose for lying to her kids about who their father really was, and for making him sound like someone that he wasn't. If they had known the truth about their dad, it's possible that they would have appreciated what they had more. In the hospital episode, I wanted to smack Kirsten for her aloof, bratty attitude.
Even though Miles lied to Rose about his real identity, I feel bad for him due to the situation that he was in. It certainly would have been awkward for Rose, but he had to live his life the best way that he could, including his love life.
As far as Virginia is concerned, the only person to "hate" in that scene was Blanche because Virginia is dead on target about her being selfish. The truth bites like a rattlesnake sometimes.

I do not agree with Kirsten, Miles, Lily, and Gloria on the list.
Kirsten was upset because she was lied to and it took a while for her to see her mother’s reasoning on why Rose lied about Charlie being a success.
Miles did love Rose and you can see it through the later seasons. The writers did his character dirty in Golden Palace.
Lily was blind, going from a independent lifestyle to being dependent is frustrating. I think a lot of people would react like she did. What Lily went through is something anyone would find terrifying because your losing your sight, something we are used to and dependent on.
Gloria did care about her sister, she even apologized to Dorothy later in the second part episode for sleeping with Stan because she saw how much of a pig he is. She realized she was wrong and wanted nothing to do with him. Sofia even admits to setting up the relationship, Sofia knew how Stan was but she did it anyway because she did not think of the consequence of how Dorothy would react.

Or Virginia, she was spot on about Blanche being a bastion of selfishness. Her actions during her father's funeral were inexcusable. She did not even apologize for acting like that. As much as her father had been her rock and support all Blanche did was antagonize her sister who was right. Blanche had a heart but she did not show it then. She was way out of line.
Kirsten was ok compared with the lady that played her (other?) bitchy daughter when Rose went into the hospital & tried to prevent them from visitation because they technically weren't "family".

All of these people were victimizing themselves and were really very selfish or self centered people who gaslighted their victim one way or another.
Kirsten (I’ll start with her since I’ve hated both renditions of her most), only cared about her father’s money and reputation as evidenced by her daughter’s comments on how she wanted to marry someone rich because that’s all she ever heard of her grandfather. She was expecting a bigger share of the money she thought her father had earned, which is a total bitch move, since that money (if there was any ) was most certainly for Rose as the mother and wife!
Lily also played the victim after putting on a brave face to seem more pathetic than she really was and it was that victimization and gaslighting that forced Rose to tell her to fend for herself.
Gloria was Considered self-centered because she would never “slum it with this side of the family”, as Stan states until her only achievement (marrying money) was gone. Another brave face act, like Lily’s and then she collapses in front of the very people she’s snubbed and belittled all those years!
And then she “gets conned ” to get hooked up with her sister’s rich ex husband (twice!!!)
They should’ve added Sophia to this list for constantly harassing, belittling, insulting, Conning and using Dorothy all this time and to put salt in the wound, Asking Dorothy why she never liked her “good daughter”. Then she hooks Dorothy’s ex con husband on Gloria and thinks it’s permissible because “mother knows best”?!?
Dorothy should’ve kicked all three of those deadbeats out of her life and married John Neretti!
And finally, Stan.

Kirsten, another poor choice for GG characters we love to hate. Kirsten is the one who is lied to by Rose in this episode until the very end. And i think it is very understandable her reaction when she thinks Rose squandered all the money she thought her father left behind. But in the end, when she learns the truth she forgives her mother. Virginia, i also disagree with. She and Blanche apparently fought their whole lives. I feel her reaction to Blanche's selfish behavior throughout the years is reasonable. And let's not forget how the episode started. Blanche's selfish behavior. Her father asked specifically to see Blanche but she didn't go because she was queen of a ball. Kirsten was always so mean in the episodes she was in, had no idea how she could have been related to Rose. She was probablly my least favorite Golden Child. I actually really loved Miles and thought he was perfect for Rose and vice versa. I like to pretend the show ended with them getting married rather than the incredibly infuriating ending we actually got-- just like I like to pretend Dorothy never left instead of getting married to a guy she had known for at best a few weeks. :P
