O-rings motor shafts are fairly universal on UK built cylinders for decades. I think a large part of ten reason for that is that tiny oil seal type shaft seals were not readily available years ago over here, and although they are obtainable now, they’re still more difficult to source than o -rings. Friction reduces once submerged.
Happy New Year. I hope that the dreaded lergy is not hitting too hard - week 9 for me, but did have a weeks respite over Christmas... and two lots of antibiotics. Thoroughly enjoying the unboxing of the four subs - was that 3/4 inch ply that the fork had gone through? Wow.
Wondering if you could put a small cover on the inside that when the iris is fully closed that cover swings to cover the tiny hole, timed with the position of the lever.
A lot easier and more effective to simply purchase the significantly more expensive zero-aperture iris. Swinging an arm doing is, obviously, feasible, but a lot of work for a little reward, and would compromise internal detailing. I wouldn't undertake such a modification, but you're certainly welcome to!
I stock the 1/8" cup seals. They're not ideal, but work well. Engel sells 4mm seals. I'm going to try standard 4mm nitrile orings and see how they work.
Just grabbed the Astute. Thanks Bob!
Like a kid in a toy store and you thought Christmas 🎄 was over 😊 Happy New Year

It was just shy of 5/8". Truly speared. I'm lucky it just nicked the tower and didn't go through the Nautilus!
You’ve brought the British flu epidemic we are having, here, to Texas!
I've had Bronchitis for almost a week now 😢. Driving me crazy 🤪
Hopefully, Ed's parts didn't get mixed up with mine!
Please show us your Razorcrest when done. Thx

Great vid. Thanks Bob. Where did you get the cup seals from? I need some for my RnR cylinders. UK supplier?
I think he uses Precision Associates U-Cup 1/16" C/S X 1/8" ID X 1/4" OD
