Everybody makes mistakes. The important thing is that instead of brushing it off this guy explained it, so novice model builders can learn from the example.
when I was about 14 years old I spent a lot of time with a local artist I'd befriended as a sort of apprentice, in his collection of random objects he used as subjects to practice his drawing skills there was a small model ship with the masts and rudder snapped off. I begged him to give it to me as it seemed like such a beautiful thing and he did but only I promised to take good care of it. I decided that I was going to restore it as I was a reasonably good at that type of thing even then though I've never attempted to build a model ship from scratch. After a lot of research I managed to replace the mast, reattach the rudder and rig the thing properly and to spite never having done anything like this before it looked fantastic. Not understanding that it was more of an ornament and not really a toy I took it down to a nearby lake where it capsized and sank like a stone. I'm now 24 years old and I still haven't summed up the courage to tell my friend about its fatal maiden voyage
Remember, drinking and driving is not ok, but drinking and sailing... That's normal.
Said the captain of the Exxon Valdez.
Drinking while sailing is also illegal

Lol😂
What a stunning model! Such a good job, I’ve just bought the kit and going to enjoy building it over the next few months and will undoubtedly revisit your videos as I go
Have Fun! 👍👌🇵🇹
Thinking about getting my first wooden model. Now I'm pretty convinced about NOT buying big ships like Montanes or Santisima Trinidad. If this one took you 6 months, thats just wow. Enjoyed every minute of your video, thanks for that. Cheers!
Hi Alex, Alex is here from Switzerland. I am now 54 jears old and start in wooden ships.
Thank you for the Video, it impressed me..
This is my second wooden ship kit and the first was 30 years ago! After watching Alex's video series I jumped back in for my second attempt, and I am not at all disappointed at all. Between following Alex's words and the enclosed instructions I could not be any happier with the results. The hull is complete and I am ready to keep pushing on. Thank you, Alex!
Honored! 🙂🙂 Thank YOU!
Wood ships will always be my favorite. Sure, it will take me a year to finish one working in little bits - dividing each piece into small projects - but I agree, there is really nothing quite like working with wood. These smaller ships of the one- and two-masted variety like packet ships, cutters, gunboats, etc. are also my favorite compared to the really big warships. Great work! Hope you are well.
Alex, I have so enjoyed you bringing us on this journey. The fears and anxieties, as well as the realizations and triumphs you experienced... you shared it all with us. You are well on your way to becoming quite the Shipwright and are already a fine raconteur. I look forward to your next build and watching your craftsmanship mature. You are enjoyed and appreciated. Stay happy and healthy.
Thank you very much! 👍👍👍
Alex… dear Alex… WONDERFUL JOB!!! I love how you embraced the imperfections and you transformed a pile of sticks into a beautiful ship. I was thinking of trying wooden ship modeling and now I have even more confidence, thank you and great job! Bravo!
Thank you! Give it a try!
Mmmm
Mmm
Alex, I certainly hope we have another wooden ship model ready to go! I fully enjoyed your entire series. Thank you for taking us on a pleasurable and relaxing ride!
Thank you! 🙂👍
Это прекрасное видео! Я смотрел вашу сборку по частям, но в одном видео даже лучше. Сам собираю Альбатрос с 2017 года😊, но после просмотра вашего видео энтузиазм просыпается по-новому! Спасибо!
Your work on this model is very satisfying to observe. I also enjoy the background music. It’s quite relaxing.

Bravo, from France😍😘😎...I'm going to try making a wooden ship, after plastic aicraft...I'm calculating stuff and tools I don't have yet,THANK YOU MY FRIEND.See You...
I'm tired of handling masts manually. The idea of an automatic screwdriver is just great, and I have it.! This is just a great idea! Thank you so much for the video!
outstanding job enjoy
Been toying with the idea of building a wood ship model for a while now for something to do. I built the Revell USS Constitution plastic model when I was around 12yrs it cost $11.00 at the time. Now at 64 this looks like fun for an old geezer the only thing I would do differently is leave the sails off I like seeing the rigging.
Thank you Alex. I just purchased my first wood model kit and it is also an Occre. It is the Aurora. I have been reluctant to begin working on it without doing some more research. I happened upon your channel and watched this whole video. It is very good. I now feel confident enough to begin. You have answered many questions for me.
Thanks
Thank you
She is so beautiful!
Currently 16 building model cars, they are not good at all with so many mistakes.
Wish i could become as good as you and maybe even start building ships myself.
Watched the entire video and i am stunned.
A fine job, sir. It takes commitment. If you don’t have a love for the work, and these vessels, you end up with a box of stir sticks, napkins, and thread. Your rigging is on point. Great work.
Saudações do Brasil!
Saudações de Portugal!
Hello Brazil, from the UK.
Thanks for linking the kit. Your videos are inspiration. And it teaches my kid great patience and respect to help papa build these!
Honored! Thats what this hobby is all about! 👍👍👍
Saya suka melihat video2 kerajinan. Kali ini saya melihat video anda. Beberapa video telah saya tonton. Dan saya ingin membuat sendiri. Saya suka langkah2 pembuatan kapal di video anda. Saya akan contoh. Terimakasih.
This is assembling a kit!
Wow, you really inspired me to begin building model ships and boats again! I loved the jazz music. Perfect for boat building. I hit the like and subscribe buttons immediately. Thank you!
I am working on my 5th model from OcCre, and enjoying every minute of it, thank you Alex for showing the imperfections as well, for showing an honest build, warts and all. You are one of the people who inspired me to start with this hobby. It's amazing to see a pile of wood turn into something beautiful, beautiful to me anyway, even though I am still learning and make mistakes.
We all do and make mistakes. This is only a hobby! Important IMHO is to have above all fun! Stay ssfe! Thank YOU
I enjoyed your build, showing a few of the inevitable mistakes that will always occur along the way. Choosing a model that’s double planked is a good approach to learning the plank on bulkhead process with the top coat of thin veneer planks masking the lower planking which is always difficult to make the same fair hull lines. Most of the kits I’ve done are single planked but since they were painted it’s easier to sand and fill for a smooth, faired line. Another suggestion: when you’re using kit-supplied rigging it’ll often have that fuzzy look. There are different opinions on this but I’ve always run the rigging thru a block of beeswax to smooth the lines before installing. Keep up the good work. I think I’m through. I just turned 80 and the eyesight ( even with mag glasses) and arthritic fingers I’m not enjoying it like I used to …
Superb. I stayed with you to the end 😅. All that “string work” was incredible.
Absolutely stunning work. Your patience and dexterity with that rigging is outstanding.
To quote a famous movie line.
🙌we are not worthy, we are not worthy🙌
Im the one who's not worthy.... Thank you
Alex, as you noted, you enjoyed building the ship and you really liked the way it turned out; well I enjoyed watching you build the ship and a I really liked the way it turned out. Win-win! Thanks for sharing with us! All the best.
Thank you! 👍👍
I came for the planking but stayed for the chill. Good video!
Thank you 🙂👍👍
Fellow builder modeler. This build was a joy to watch. My wife enjoyed the video too. I'm very lucky...my wife builds models to. Thank you my friend. Very nice work.
You are very lucky indeed! Enjoy get company and good luck for both !!
A lucky Man, to have a Wife who shares your hobby.
Fantastic Video. Can't add any els. Loved every bit of it. My humble congratulations on your work.
A beautiful work of art is the reward for all this effort, well done sir, well done.
Not only did you build something beautiful, but your videography is excellent, your music choices were calming, and teaching strategy is spot on❤
Thank you! Glad you enjoy it! 👍🙂
Well done, sir! I built the SS San Francisco about 15 years ago and it turned out close to as good as yours, but not quite. Totally enjoyed it. I have had a Cutty Sark in the box staring at me since just after I finished it, I think it is time to build that one. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you! 👍🇵🇹
Nice ship. I like ships very much
They are indeed very beautiful
For your first wooden kit you did a great job. Enjoy your builds a lot.
Thank you! 🙂👍
Building wooden boats is a wonderful occupation and not too expensive if you know how to organize yourself
So I practiced this passion for a while when I was younger .. and after 3 models .. I saw myself forced to stop ... and the reason was ... lack of space .... !!!
That's the downside of this hobby or else you have to turn your house into a showroom and live in a tent 😀
I therefore take pleasure in following your constructions .. boats or other planes
Yes! Unfortunatly i am forced to agree 100% with you! My hobbie room already looks like a shipyard... Chaos included! 🙂🙂👍👍
That was awesome, hats off to you. I'm not sure I could figure out all the ropes , pulleys and sails but I'm going to give it a shot.
Wow it's just amazing, the finest details that u've taken care of 🖖🏻
super job alex very well done I warched it all from srart to finish. cheers
Keep building mate, this was fantastic to watch - I had it on while starting my first project, a 1:250 Cutty Sark.
It looks like everyone here loves your videos. You're doing great! :)
Love the cutty sark! 🙂👍🇵🇹
Looking at you gave me the will to try to make one of the projects. I'm a beginner so I have no idea about it. I will try something simpler, for example a smaller one without sails. And then to the more complicated ones like Albatros or Santa Maria. Good job bro.
A long time ago I built the Marie Jeanne from Billing Boats - my only excursion in the realm of wooden ship modeling so far. I recall that the thin planks on the deck had to be divided by thick black cotton thread, to simulate tar. Most difficult of all was the hull with its many curves, especially near the bow. The rest was a breeze after that. The only thing I didn't like was the little life boat which was in plastic, a tad incongruous with the rest, but I managed to give it a wooden appearance. I liked the finely detailed lanterns and bilge pump.
Love your work Alex....
Thank you! Stay safe 🙂👍
A joy to watch. I’m building HMS Pegasus and hope to have a similar wonderful result!
Great idea doing the new edit Alex! It can be tricky sometimes catching the full series, doing a single video of the full build is great for those that want everything clean and concise. Nice job!
Thank you Mate!! Stay safe!
I watched and enjoyed the step-by-step videos but this is the one that shows the vast amount of work that went in to making that beautiful ship. Once again my congratulations on the build.
Thank you! 👍👍👍
felicitări super frumos mult succes la serviciu
You did a fantastic job, thank you for sharing so much info and knowledge.
Very enjoyable build, and I LOVED the choice of music...!!!
Very good and extremely helpful.
Very helpful to get me interested. Thanks.
After watching your amazing build I now want to try to get my wife to release some funds (talk about blood out of a stone) so that I might try to even get half as good as you. Thank you for the inspiration
Thank you
I really enjoyed this journey. Thank you for sharing! That rigging looks great, I wouldn't have even known you made a mistake had you not pointed it out xD
Keep on going. I've learnt a lot.
Enjoyed the video mate. Something different to plastic bit equally as fascinating. Thanks for sharing
Thank you Mark! Stay safe!
Love the videos. So relaxing. This is now my favorite channel to watch. Thank you.
Dude, your voice sounds almost exactly like Michael Douglas! Great video. I’d swear it was him narrating this video.
Ahaha!! Thank you! Honored! 😊 Stay safe
Amazing work. Thank you for sharing!!!!
Hi Alex! I really enjoyed your video and learned a thing or two; so here's my hint in return I hope you can appreciate the feedback. when you do the planking, your steeler planks go from full with all the way to a sharp point. It's better to limit them to a minimum of half a plank width. what I also do is before I start planking, I measure the length of the frames with a wire and divide the width by the number of planks, on some ships steeler planks are not even necessary, It also helps to mark the planks of the second layer on the first layer to have a guide where to glue them. keep up the good work!
Thank you! 👍👍😊
Excelente vídeo
Super Video, danke.
I love long videos dont apologize for it being too long
Amazing Job, mate! Well done! I learned a lot with your video and got some great tips to build my one.
Great video and as always, beautiful results! You are making me want to attempt a wooden ship more and more Alex
Thank you!
You are a great modeler watched the whole video great model wish I could do as good a job as you did I made as lot but not as detailed as you did thank you great job God bless your talent
Honored by your comment thank you
this is my next prroject :D :D :D: D wow
Отличная работа
Bonjour, magnifique travail pour un très beau résultat, bravo !
Bonjour de France !
Merci!!😊👍
@@AlexModeling Et un abo de plus !
love you sir great work good job done
GREAT JOB. Ill start slow on a small build. Feel like building wooden ships and houses after building all the plastic ww2 in my youth. Going on 50 now and should have more patience. Lets see first. Ill get mamoli mini or simple occre to start with is best i think.
Go for it!
I think you did an amazing job on this, Really sold me on getting into the hobby!
Alex, excellent video and build, I am inspired to do a model myself, will start with something less complex.I am glad you touched on some the frustration and head scratching moments I am sure there will be plenty of opportunities for that, however I will not be building a model for anyone but myself. No worries about professionalism, only, hopefully, my own satisfaction. Good job.
Thank you. Have fun!
looking good, nice work
Alex very well stimulating my mind as growing up it was my Mom's JC Penny's and Sears catalogs bra sections that was very stimulating now 50 plus years later I find this very simulating how time changes what slimulates the mind as your production often kept me focused and well entertained its ironic how the mind often changes of what's becomes daydream mind set 😂 from women wearing bras to building ships and other model👙🚢😅
Awesome job! Looks great.
Thank you! 😊👍
Hey I really enjoyed you video! you did an excellent job. I love the music!!
Thank you!
I’m a first time modeller. This video was so helpful. Thank you. And yes. Alex, I have liked & subscribed. Why wouldn’t I? It’s the least I can do.
Thank you! 👍👍👍😊
Wou, masterpiece!!
So happy to learn from your mistakes, my friend, but I'm sure I will come up with some new ones, that you hadn't thought of. Starting on the "Norske Løve" from Billings....🙂 I'l tell you how it goes, in a five years time...
Have fun above all! 👌😊
Nice job, dude!
Very good job Alex
Thank you!
Excellent, I have to laugh because I did the exact same thing with the deck. I am about to start the hull planking. I have so many models to build. If you are ever looking for a model and can not find it send me a message because I might have it. I enjoyed this video big time. I have 3 Victories and Royals 1/100 scale along with the huge wooden ones. You did real good on this one and yes the wooden ships are in a totally different class. Take care and keep on building. Thanks man Jim
Hello Rhonda! How are you? Sorry for not answering your comment when you posted it! I received a lot on this video and slipped throug! Can i ask you, if you read my answer here, if you have the Airfix "HMS PRINCE"? Usually i don t ask much to people but for years Im looking, for this kit, and i can not find it... Question, do you have it? Again, thank you for answering and for your comment! 🙂🙂👍🏼
Nice work
You need to talk more in your videos. Like your voice. It adds more to these videos.
Thank you very much!
Excelente 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Building my first ship the Black Prince from Mamoli cause i got two ships for under 1/2 price from a guy, not the best kit to start with but if it becomes to hard i will buy this kit.
Perhaps you could have covered those mistake holes with small cuts of planking? Anyway great job.
Yes i could... 👍👍
You can starch the sails and dry them in shape. Another thing you can do is smear glue on some of the fuzzy lines to tighten them to a smooth finish with you finger. The ratlines can be treated the same way to give the proper appearance of hanging downwards.
Hello Alex ,Nice work on the ship build. I am working on a plastic ship (HMS Bounty) right now to build my knowledge of all the bits and pieces that go into building model sailing ships. I see that you were spraying water or something on your ship parts when gluing them together. What is the purpose of this technique ? What type of glue do you use and the spray ?
Im spraying CA Glue acelerator. Cures the glue at that moment and garanties the bond
Bao nhiêu tiền 1 bộ thuyền mô hình vậy bạn. Cảm ơn nếu bạn trả lời tôi rất thích video của bạn.
Nice , Szép!
Hi, Alex! Congratulations! Amazing work!
I’m about to do my first model and I’m trying to figure out why there is two types of glue? One white and the other transparent? Thank you!
One is CA glue. Super strong. You use it when you want almost imediate glue to cure And bond. The other is white or carpenters glue. Its white but when cures is also transparent but slow to cure
When tying the dead eye to the shroud to make it even in height with the other's, do you clamp the line before tying and glueing?
I broke my foot a couple weeks ago. I’m really considering one of these while I’m down.
Get well and have some Fun! Take care of that injury
