Choice of ground was a big decider in the outcome. The Romans General was smart in retreating back up the hill to the stronger position. Attacking uphill on uneven ground was the Mecedonians undoing. Always look forward to your next posts! Perfect length as well.❤️👍😎🇦🇺
That's the thing about the phalanx, it's going to steamroll anything in front of it but you *HAVE* to protect those flanks or you're always going to fight under threat of being flanked and/or surrounded. Refused wings, reserves, cavalry, terrain, whatever but you gotta keep those flanks nice and safe.
you see even today this kind of failure when employing armor, too often nations seem tho think all that counts is that heavy center and forget infantry w/ATGMs or even ATGs can inflict heavy losses from the flanks. Look at the Russians everywhere for the last few decades, Israelis in the last war in the Sinai, the Saudis in Yemen, Chinese in Vietnam, etc
@@mglkeiser1532 Sure. Alexander never faced an army as disciplined as Rome's. Barring his living to be so old as to survive to that period without his troops of that period , he would have had to fight using the same forces the Macedonians ended up with and using the same tactics. Simply put Roman legions were far more flexible heavy forces than the phalanxes.
Amazing video as usual. In the near future, please do the Siege of Milan (452 C.E.) for Attila; the Siege of Sparta (272 B.C.E.), the Battle of the Allia (390 B.C.E.), and the Siege of Philippopolis (250 C.E.) for Rome II; and the Battle of Kadesh (1274 B.C.E.) for Pharaoh.
Paulus ( who became Lucius Aemilius Paulus Scipio Macedonius and was the direct descendant of Aemilius Paulus who lost at Cannae) was rather old when he took command but he was so sure of himself. Contrary to Scipio Africanus he was a gentle leader maybe because he has such self confidence that it was contagious.
This is making me want to re-read Clash of Empires/The Falling Sword by Ben Kane, perfect for anyone who is a fan of the classical period and Bernard Cornwell/Simon Scarrow
The battle of 2nd Trrain that have an impact on history, and we can feel that impact till now, Or the battle of Talikota, that ended an great Empire and changed the region forever, and current crisis of south Asia is heavily influenced by that very battle, Peace out Salam Alaykum, and Happy Christmas 🎄🎁🎁🎁 in advance,.😊🎉🎉🎉🎉
The depiction of the battle is very well done. But I doubt that the cavalry and elephants charged together. Such evidence as there is of the use of elephants and its effect suggests that horses were terrified of being anywhere near elephants and became unmanageable.

At that period the Macedon kingdom was left with no allies from the other greek city-states since the latter were under roman occupation. And maybe it was very difficult for them to have vast numbers of well trained hypaspists-the old days of glory had already been long gone.
Outstanding cinematics as always. Cheers from Tennessee

The Romans would never defeated Macedon in Alexander where still alive
@@mglkeiser1532Not really, the phalanx formation is really rigid and does not fare well with a more flexible maniple formation

NICE VIDEO. I loved the sound and picture, it was like watching a historical Hollywood movie.
Could you please do a Lithuania vs Golden horde battle?
Yes!
The battles of this period make medieval ones look like simple skirmishes
Memento Audere Semper❤
how do you get the voice from the rome 2 narrator? just asking
What was Perseus thinking ordering he's pikemen up the steep uneven terrain.
Are we still going to be Roman yup

never seen before roman uniforms as the ones shown in this video
That is because this early phase of the roman history is rarely portraited.

Весело жили люди.
The stench of death on these battlefields most have been horrendous after the victor was declared…60,000armoured Meat grinder .
Con i se non si fa la storia.
Se c'era Scipio ad Adrianopoli l'impero romano sarebbe durato.
Probably several thousand Macedonians and a hundred Romans died. This is what happens when you impose your fighting style.
6:12 infantry reacts too slow , to cavalry 🪧💿☦️👹
Was wondering when Bellem was going to get back to ancient battles.
Un video de las guerras romano-tracias

Io Saturnalia !!👍
If there would be Alexander the great in the macedonian cavalry the history would be written on the behalf of helenic civilization onwards!

CGI animated representation is stupid and all wrong. People don't charge into a phalanx. This is just dumb videogame stuff.
It's a videogame.
so, they made the same mistakes as germany in WW2, placing weaker and foreign troops to guard their flanks

Why did the Macedonians used hoplites to cover their flanks like Alexander did with the Hypaspists?
At that period the Macedon kingdom was left with no allies from the other greek city-states since the latter were under roman occupation. And maybe it was very difficult for them to have vast numbers of well trained hypaspists-the old days of glory had already been long gone.
