Yo my beauties, I'm so stoked I starting putting longer form stuff on here! Seriously cant believe how much everyone is welcoming the slower long form videos. Thankyou so much for the love 🫀🌍🌿
I find this form of content really calming and peaceful. Thanks for this informative and relaxing watch. It's comforting that there's still people out there who think this way about our home. Keen for more long form stuff like this.
I came to your channel through the Mussels foraging. Amazing Job you do here on your channel. My Grandma is foraging mushrooms and berries in the woods and herbs on the mountains for teas and tinctures. I was never really interested in the past for learning how to forage myself but I find myself more an more interested in it. I think it's time to ask my grandma to teach me all her knowledge
I feel like the thing that sets this guy apart from other foraging channels and shows, is that he focuses on the spiritual/philosophic part of the process. Others try to deliver the survival and necessity aspect of foraging, whereas this is made out of pure enjoyment, fascination and interest.
Foraging is still quite central to Latvian culture. Many people head to the forest in search of mushrooms and berries. Since moving here from the UK, it's become an enjoyable pastime for me too, it's also very theraputic. I really enjoy just spending time slowly wandering through the forest paying close attention to it's entirity. I feel like I find only what the forest wants me to find and I'm ok with that.
My wife and I usually forage chantarelles, porcini, slippery jacks, blueberries, brambles, wild raspberries, sea buckthorn (the juice makes a delicious hot drink), linden blossoms (for tea) and hazel nuts.
My brothers and I grew up foraging for food as our hobbies. I remember us sneaking from the house after lunch to hike miles just to go to our favorite river spot to enjoy swimming. On our way home, we usually gather firewood, forage for coconuts, and whatever wild vegetables we pass by on the trail home. As soon as we arrive home, we usually get an earful from our parents but we appease them by preparing dinner using the ingredients we've gathered. Those days were the best. I'm now 30, still single, and working hard in the city to save up for my retirement. My parents are already growing old but still enjoy working on our small farm in the countryside. I want to retire early and live close to them so that I can take care of them as they grow older while going back to the simple life I enjoyed the most. Thank you for your content, you just earned a sub!
19:43 Between this and your mussel video you've definitely inspired me to look into what can be foraged in my area, so thanks, I'm looking forward to trying
Wild garlic is a brilliant place to start, if you're in an area where you can find it :) it's perfect chopped up into a sort of pesto along with cooked pasta :)
Never thought I'd be so invested in listening to someone going off on philosophical tangents while sitting round in the woods eating eggs and leaves, but here we are! Seriously though, I really do enjoy this style of presentation, it feels refreshingly genuine to see in the current climate of most content online these days. Would be very surprised if this channel doesn't start growing exponentially, since my sentiment seems to be shared by a lot of other viewers here. Very excited to see more from you! P.S. Your dog is absolutely adorable!
It was getting curious about the smell of three cornered leak in April one year that got me into Foraging. Years later I'm now a big muscly gym rat on nearly 5,000kcal per day but I still go foraging and grow some fruit and veg for micronutrients. Birch polypore tincture and turkey tail tea still makes me feel amazing during deload weeks and things like Nettles and Sorrel are so high in nutrition specific to lifting and recovery it's unreal. The best sleep I've had of my adult life came off the back of carefully preparing Amanita Muscaria. I could go on and on with the benefits and improvements I've seen from foraging, nevermind the fun learning parts.
You make this easy for someone on the Autist Spectrum🌈 where some of these videos on here can be just too intense for me. Thank you my brother. Looking forward to using this mindset while long distance hiking ❤
You remind me of Joe Pera! Haha. Very cute, thank you for sharing. I watched this over breakfast today. This is also a nice little reminder to be intentional and to practice mindfulness. I enjoy how slow and thoughtful this video is. I am super excited to see what other videos you have in store for us! (:
Seth you are a breath of fresh air in the chaos of our social media. As a kid a learned to fly fish here in Colorado. We still fish and forage for mushrooms and berries. So, so good! Keep this channel going as you have something worth sharing? ❤
Another lovely video Seth, thankyou. As someone born and bred in Yorkshire I've had the privilege to be surrounded by some of the most incredible natural beauty England has to offer. And despite my many hikes as a child, I'm beginning to see that I've never really been immersed in the land I lived on. Having moved to The Netherlands (with its highly organised and geomatricly flat, predictable farmland) for the past 4 years I've come to greatly appreciate the vivid and almost mystical nature of the English countryside. You've inspired me to take another look at nature, and to start documenting the land that raised me, thankyou.
Man this is the most relaxing format I’ve seen in years, your voice is perfect and the ambient noise makes it feel like a David Attenborough film. Never stop this content.
I just watched a 20 minute video where you rambled on about a subject that I have no interest in and absolutely enjoyed it.... Now That's what I call talent!
Excellent video. Thank you so much, Seth! I’m so thankful to have grown up with an Uncle who was an avid ‘catch and cook’ fisherman and also a passionate forager here in the Pacific Coast. He taught me to always follow regulations (mostly because of his trauma of getting fined by Fish & Game for keeping an undersized Dungeness Crab..) When I talk to him about the importance of ‘catching and releasing’ every now and then to preserve our fisheries, or not taking an excess of different shellfish, it annoys the living hella out of him 😂 Still, it was his lifestyle that taught me to love and respect Mother Nature, to create a relationship with the natural world. It would be amazing to have a foraging experience in addition to field trips as a requirement for the sciences in public school core curriculum. If we want future generations to care for the environment and go beyond capitalistic thinking, they need the opportunity, resources, and exposure to do so. I’m so thankful to have been given such a privilege as a low-income kid growing up in the Bay Area. One day… love the content man, I hit that subscribe button in the quickness!
The mussels video brought me to your channel and it's great to see another one pop up. Love your relaxed style! Dare I say, a lot of us may need to forage sooner than we think
Mate, caught your mussels vid yesterday and was afraid of waiting a month between vids (entirely reasonable for the content) but this has been a treat to wake to! You genuinely could have a series on this stuff, we need more people passionate and humble about life and the world. I love the fact you're not pretending to know it all just sharing what you do, hope this endeavour goes well for you!
These long form videos have a special appeal for me, since this perfectly harmonizes style and content. I feel most people watch your videos, since they are a sort of escape to a slower lifestyle, a kind of nostalgia for a time and place many of us have never seen or been. A life without the daily grind dominated by capitalism, consumption and exploitation. It's ironic, watching your videos on a thousand dollar smartphone, on a website operated by a trillion dollar company, while at the same time longing for a simple analog life. Keep up the work man, keep people dreaming, because the funny thing is, every once in a while somewhere for someone a dream might come true.
Welsh Forager over here! I really loved your segment on the parallels between foraging and languages - forging a connect with the world from a different 'forgotten' perspective. I speak Welsh regularly and though I wouldn't call it dying (we're lucky because its recovering against all odds), I feel priviliged that it gives me that additional 'feeling' from the land and hills I walk daily. It's exactly the same feeling I get when I consume from that very land. I had never really pitted them against one another in my mind before, but what a touching realization that is! I think we would all benefit a little from knowledge of the past, to remind us where and who we are. Diolch Seth!
It’s refreshing to se a calm and free-thinking human for once, in this egoistic world. Nature is therapy for me, I cant imagine a life without it. I hope more people to realise how reconnecting to nature can improve ones life. I dont think its necessary to give up carreer and distancing from social media and other post-modern things you dont really need, but it certainly helps alot. I feel like i have to reprogram myself, to go backwards in some sense, to live slower with less stress, closer to nature. And I dont want to go back to what i left. Getting to know myself for real this time, with a good help the from the nature.
I have started my foraging journey and I feel it really connects me to my surroundings. Nothing better than walking the dog and munching primroses or gorse.
Our backyard at home often gets super overgrown coz non of us can be bothered maintaining it half the time, but the amount edible things that end up growing out of nowhere in the thick scrubs is incredible. I found a massive ass parsley bush under one of the apricot trees by happenstance one day and I thought it was just the best thing ever.
Hi beautful soul, I think what you do its very important and very beautiful. Wish loads of people would be like you but i guess thats just simple part of evolution ( mean the path we are going throuth atm). Im slovakian and i feel like we are almost last generation tp have this knowladge from my parants and grandparants. My father (always bare foot) even says he speaks to the wind. the wind always tells him which fruits are ready to be picked from trees. Of course you can find very useful and beautiful books but there is nothing like to learn it from others. I absolutly agree with what you are saying and my heart is jumping crazy from happinness when i see your videos. People need this. The world needs this. Stay you, close to mother nature 💫
Dear Seth, tnks for sharing your knowledge and ideas!! Im from Mexico; there is a lot of ancestral knowledge here. You inspire me to foraging. I lov your videos!
I love this! Maybe because I grew up like that, and now that I'm an adult (trying) and living in the city, I miss being able to run into my backyard and recognize all the plants and fruits and flowers in my garden. It's a yearning I can't fix unless I go back home or go to the countryside, which I hopefully can one day. I hope you never get tired of being in nature and living with it and sharing your experiences in it with the world!
I'm glad youtube recommended these vids to me, wasn't ever planning on foraging myself but who knows, I might give it a try sometime. it's an interesting perspective for sure connecting yourself to nature that way. also just a calming watch :)
I only just found and subscribed to your channel a few days ago (after the mussels video - that looks like it went BIG - was suggested to me) but I love the subjects and themes of your videos! I think longer format really suits the content of your channel and resonates with the slow, calm nature of it all, and clearly UA-cam thinks the same too! Just wanted to say well done, and I hope your channel goes from strength to strength from here (I have no doubt it will!)
I did foraging in Alaska for 2 years and it was by far the most magical experience of my life, you just don't really see how astounding nature is until you're combing every inch of it. AK has some real untouched wilderness though so it is on another level.
I love foraging. Not a waste a time. Enjoy the walk, the scenery, and "The Find". Like hunting easter eggs, lol. Vegetables are expensive. Going out and finding mushrooms, cress etc for free is rewarding.
Have not watched you nor any channel of this subject. And I wish to state my thoughts on the question. Mental stimulation, as I can imagine it takes a grand amount of skill and observation to do, because from what little I gather picking the wrong item can and very likely will kill you in a split second. It gets you outside and really pushes you to take in the moment and changes in your environment. At the end of the day, I can only imagine that when you are good at this sort of thing it is an actual real life accomplishment, as it is beneficial to you and a skill you can teach to others that in some crazy instance that may never occur they may need it too.
It is really valuable information. I love foraging and. Collect lots of plants berries, mushrooms and shellfish every year and it’s a great pleasure. Really enjoyed your video keep going
I just came across your videos today and as I ahve been aiming to begin simliar interests in foraging finding your videos and seeminlgy (I can only see 9 videos on your page?) not a long list, I however, already love these thoughtful, well put together, informative and insightful videos. Just goes to show when you love doing something and you do it, others will to. I hope you continue down this path.
Algorithm sent me to a great place. The appreciation for nature and the land we live on is so hard to find these days, at least in the way you show it! Love the channel already, here for more, keep it up!
yooo this channel is exploding, congratulations on the success so far. I'm sure you'll go very far with these videos and please keep them coming! they're a true breathe of fresh air
Your Mussel video was recommended to me when it came out and I loved it so much! There's a level of calmness to your demeanour, and your insight into your interests is so interesting. There's no judgement on your part, and it feels quite intimate. When I subbed, I was hoping that the Mussel video wouldn't be your only release, and I'm really happy it wasn't. Here's to many more videos!
I’m an environmental studies and philosophy undergrad and I take notes on your videos with more passion than in some of my classes. Your points of view are really really valuable and you deserve to be able to reach a lot of people. Wishing you so much growth and fulfillment and thank you so much for you
Thank you YT, your algo connected me with Seth Hughes. Btw cheers mate, loving your content. First vid of yours I watched was the foraging for mussels vid. I like your relaxed and thoughtful content.
I live about a 30min walk from a big woodland area. I used to love going there with my grandad and spending time in nature and exploring the plants and wildlife. It's been a long time since I did that and in recent years I've found myself drawn to wanting to go back to those roots. I love nature and being out and about but I've not had the time or energy to go explore. Maybe I should find the time to reconnect with nature again. Your videos are very inspiring.
Subscribed after watching this :) There is something deeply unsatisfying to our hunter gatherer instincts when we pick up a packaged bag of food from a grocery store as opposed to picking it from where it lives.
A truly refreshing change to the usual dross that's found on this platform Seth. Well done mate, you're an advocate & a beacon for Natural Law. Your understanding of the symbiotic nature of humans and this planet is something we all have to grasp and understand. It's time to come home ✨💚
Really enjoying your channel so far; especially the longer, slower videos. The pacing matches the content, it's educational and thoughtful. Looking forward to more.
Keep it going, i support your message. You're making it very accessible. You should maybe do guides on what to find and eat when and where :). Keep it up and don't overpressure yourself
i usually have a hard time focusing on videos but for some reason your last 2 videos have had me locked in, your voice is great and your words are so interesting i could listen to it for hours
Thank you for taking the time to put out this knowledge. I couldn't agree more how important it is to have knowledge of the life around us and how we can grow stronger connections to the natural world around us. Great content I look forward to watching your content and channel grow.
As someone who has grown up foraging for mushrooms and wild fruit and berries i have dont it a lot less in my free time since i have moved out of my parents place. Your videos have motivated me to look for forests and national parks in my are that could allow me to go foraging for mushrooms once again when the season in right. Thank you for sharing your opinion and insights on topics like this.
your message will reach many people. such a shared feeling across our societies, this loss of a wealth of generational knowledge, but it's people like you who contribute to its rebirth(or regrowth)! love how your camera work reflects your place as one small element among the forest life. cheers
This is the best content I’ve seen in a long while. I started foraging mushrooms this year and it has brought me so much joy and allowed me a deeper feeling of connection to my surroundings :)

Love your channel, so relaxing
Mate great videos keep it up
I don't even like foraging but your videos draw me in, great work!
The dog consistently bringing you better sticks throughout the video cured my depression
That dog drop at the start is fucking ART!
he was like 'screw your video, this is why we are out'

This more sustainable way of living and treating the environment is awesome. I absolutely adore your channel. Hope you continue the longform content

Absolutely adore ur channel!!! I've hit the jackpot with this one
Subscribed after watching this :)
There is something deeply unsatisfying to our hunter gatherer instincts when we pick up a packaged bag of food from a grocery store as opposed to picking it from where it lives.
Could listen to you talk all day Seth you legend!
You remind me a lot of TA Outdoors, The endless optimism and just generally kind demeanour is calming. I hope you continue to make more videos :)
Why do i enjoy your videos so much , thank you!
Really enjoying these videos and your musings. Thankyou
Liking these videos mate. You seem like a solid dude and they are a nice change in pace from city life. Keep it up!
Keep it going, i support your message. You're making it very accessible. You should maybe do guides on what to find and eat when and where :). Keep it up and don't overpressure yourself
i really appreciate your clear view on the things you are talking about. Makes people think without telling them what is right or wrong. Stay on :)
I too came across your channel through mussels. I like the way you introduce foraging.
Just watched your video on mussels yesterday and was upset to see you didn't have any more! So glad to see another one on my home page!!
Please keep posting these!!! I think everyone can benefit from these videos. Thank you!
Seth you seem like a good man, keep doing what you love.
i usually have a hard time focusing on videos but for some reason your last 2 videos have had me locked in, your voice is great and your words are so interesting i could listen to it for hours
Even if there was no justification, it brings you joy and causes no harm ❤
