God I love smash bros but they have the absolute WORST trash talk, not a single good instance. Blizzard Flame’s “EASYYYYY MONEY” is by far the least cringy, but Tians slapping Tafo’s ass to the Moon was fucking awful, especially since he got destroyed in that set, and even worse 2 years later eventually lost to me at monthly XD

There was some good trash talk all around the leffen vs chillin set. And lots of good trashtalk before we went esports.
To me, the best trash talk to ever come out from SSB was from an interview with Leffen before the infamous money match with Chillindude. He said something like "Sure, people want him to beat me and he can study my style, even beat me, but at the end of the day he can never win a tournament. That's why people say "I hope Chillin beats Leffen" and not "I hope Chillin wins this tournament", he has no shot at it. Especially for a player like him that has achieved absolutely nothing despite starting way sooner than me."

Dota was really late onto the esports scene. As far as I can tell, most clips are from pre-korea dominated league and mlg shooter tourneys on console, as well as versions of counterstrike before go. Esports was still growing at that time and the standards of professionalism are very different than what we would judge by today. Also, at least a third of these were just jokes.
Filbert Jonathan DotA actually has one of the best communities. When I was new to the game and I think on my first all pick, I was definitely the reason my team lost. But the whole time, every single person of my team was so supportive and they taught me how to farm, where to ward, when to push etc etc. Amazing community, amazing people.
Joseph Cianfrani Dota was NOT late into the scene. Dota 2 may have not grown out of proportions only recently, but Dota 1 had plenty of competition back in the day. Plenty old pros come from Dota 1 e-sports.
Nobody said there wasn't any competitive gameplay. You're delusional if you think classic dota had a scene anywhere even close to the first worlds or international. Factually so, because the first international is where the 7 figure prize pools we see today started from.
