@@jaxsomon3333 They already covered Breloom and Meganium in their own videos as well though, but those two got ranked. Torterra should be no different. Also yes MegaFidough, I am the same guy who needled you on discord about it, heya.
One thing I noticed on my sceptile playthrough is that I much prefer running regular sceptile with focus sash and setting up swords dance over the mega form. I feel that’s something that’s kinda missing in these vids, the opportunity cost of the regular form vs the mega
I love turtwig but torterra's typing is garbage. Torterra is a tank with high defense and attack but doesn't really resist anything. Destroyed by flying types, destroyed by anything with an ice move. Too slow to avoid dealing with weaknesses. A slow defense tank whose weaknesses are almost all special types just does not function
Mega sceptile is so underrated for a regular elite difficulty playthrough where your mega pool is limited. With sun setup its an absolute beast that can plow through a lof teams
"grass type is the worst starter" elite redux adding chloroplast, big leaves, fluttering leaf, berry smash, creeping thorns, fertile fangs, absorbant, and fungal infection to make grass types the most broken shit ever:
Another great video. My favorite mon in Emerald Elite Redux is Ninjask. Love the buffs it received, and spamming sub/protect to get massive speed and attack has cheesed almost the whole game for me
Mega Sceptile is so insanely fun. Its nice to get a sneaky SD in with Base Sceptile's protean against something that tries to prey on its weakness. Solar Blade, Dual Chop, and Uturn make it a nice sweeper with emergency pivoting when needed. Currently figuring out a great sun team to fit it in though.
Mega Sceptile is so obscene in the sun now. Solar Blade just demolishes any tank that doesn't resist it for anywhere between 400-800 damage, and non-tanks regularly get lit up for 1200 damage. No setup beyond sun required. Resisted Solar Blade probably does more damage than it's coverage moves half the time too. If Dual Chop did anywhere near as much to break sashes, it'd nearly be a real unstoppable monster.
You underrate grass defensively, yes it resists 4 and is weak to 5, but electric, water and ground rare super hard to resist and very valuable to have in one mon, while poison, bug and (STAB) ice are not that common or hard to counter with other types. It's really not bad defensively.
The grass megas in practice: Abomasnow: you were right in calling it the worst, in that it doesn’t really fit on any team. Hail is already struggling in general, mono grass doesn’t really fit it since it likes to be sun focused, and ice doesn’t want it for one simple reason: just use mega lapras y. Venusaur: The best word to describe the Mon is forgettable. Does it mean it’s bad: absolutely not, it still has great utility, especially on bulky styles of grass and poison like it always does. Just that it gets overlooked form more powerful and interesting options, such as mega sceptile on a newly sun lead grass, or poison ho led by mega beedrill Mega sceptile: the thing is actually extremely powerful as a sun Mon, mainly because it actually prefers going mixed, with weather ball to crush most steels and boosting with growth instead. The problem more so on sun is the fact that it has to try VERY hard to justify itself over zard y, which is just as if not even more so scary, and has aspects such as setting up sun itself in addition to being an abuser Torterra: In theory, atlas boosting grav apple and removing flying and a switch in to your stabs is powerful, alongside grassy glide. In practice, it isn’t that strong. Yes you remove the flying issue to some extent, but you still have bug and grass that resist both stabs. Not to mention it doesn’t really hit that hard, and I’m pretty sure atlas works also like stall: it affects the prio bracket, so glide isn’t solving the issue. Meganium: Similar to the turtle, its kit seems amazing in theory, and it somewhat works in practice. However it isn’t as strong as it seems due to two things. Firstly it isn’t that strong without grabbing boosts, which makes playing around it much easier. Secondly and most prevalent, it gets walled VERY easily. Grass and fairy have quite a few types that alone resist both stabs: fire, poison and steel, and makes it easier to deal with than it should. In addition, it also leads it to suffer from 4mss: after the obvious dual stabs, it has to pick between calm mind to actually pose a threat, synthesis for overall better healing, and earth power to threaten all of the things that wall it’s stabs, all are important and all are costly to give up. Breloom: The actual best mega of the group. The thing hits VERY hard with those technichian prio bullet seeds even on 2-3 hits, to the point where larger amounts can chunk resist. As a result it’s difficult to switch into the thing alongside spore and fungi infection chunking its switch ins even more. And to think according to the alpha dex it’s getting buffed…..
The really powerful thing about abomasnow is the fact that he has North wind before mega evolving, so you can set up aurora veil THEN hail for free, I made a team around him and so far it's the team with the least amount of losses that I have used
I know you made a video on it already, but I'm suprised you didn't bring up Mega Torterra. Atlas giving stab fissure and stone edge really high accuracy and powers up grav apple. Solid rock helps in reducing the power of super effective moves. Grassy surge gives Mega Torterra some self recovery and gives it priority on grassy glide.
I think Mega Breloom and Sceptile are better (relatively speaking) than you're giving them credit for. Mega Meganium is great, don't get me wrong, but base Meganium is amazing. Big Leaves, Triage, Calm Mind, and the ability to hold Berries make it extremely powerful without taking up your Mega slot. Meanwhile, the upgrades Sceptile and Breloom get are much more substantial. Perfectionist Technician Bullet Seed does nasty things, as does Technician Bullet Punch, and Fungal Infection really helps with its otherwise sub-par suvivability (while Absorbant on MMeganium doesn't do nearly as much, given it's already using Giga Drain/Draining Kiss). Basically, I think you get more out of running a different Mega from Meganium, even if it's really good.
Gen 2's Megas are kinda busted ngl You basically have "Nice HP you got over there, let's drain it" "Haha, eruption go boom kaboom" "I'mma firin mah lazar"
"it will survive that first hit to set up the sun" What are you thinking wasting a turn setting up sun? If you are running a chlorophyll pokemon, you shouod have a drought Pokemon on your team.
On the Harvest ability, wouldn't it be good to have the pokemon hold a weakness reduction berry, like Sceptile holding the ice berry? It lets you repeatedly cover major weaknesses in the grass type, imo. Not saying there aren't better items, but on pokemon that can set up, status, heal, and attack with movepool alone, it makes sense to me.
