We are following your adventures and we are thrilled. It is good to see that somene is rescueing all this abandoned Volkswagens. And we believe that most of them will be back on the road some day. But restoring this old Westfalia means at least building a NEW bus. Good luck to you and your project. We will follow! 🙂

Maybe you should get Larry to show you how to get it off and then maybe he can help you get a vision on how to put this thing back together because there’s going to be a lot of metal work to be done to get this one back on the road again. Thanks for another great video.

We moved to Gainesville, Florida in the summer of 1974, and soon got to spend time with my wife’s Uncle Benno, who lived in Jacksonville Beach and drove us all around the area in a beautiful VW bus! I’m pretty sure that eight of us made some of those runs! I am sure looking forward to seeing you get that old girl back on the road! Congrats, and thank you for bringing us along on the journey! ❤

I laughed out loud around the 7 minute mark of this video Jason while you were inspecting the engine and saw where the gas line was you said that's a fire waiting to happen, I call it a bomb. I really like the headlights on the Mango, I'd say build around them as an idea for this project. As always, I'm looking forward to the engine running on the Mango. I hope you and the family are well and cheers from this old retired coot living the dream in Tennessee.

  • @robinredman5192

Jason, Just thinking that instead of spending a boatload of money on metal just buy a case of Carnauba wax, have the wife wax ya down, get the engine running good and just slide on down the road. Much cheaper and just requires the wife to rub you down prior to any road-trips!! 😅🤣😂 I just crack myself up sometimes. Thanks for another vidja and best wishes. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.

Another entertaining vid Jason ... Robbie's/dubwerks 1967 Black Beetle with red interior looks great ! That is the only vehicle I like that has a red interior. The amber turn signal/taillights give this Beetle, holy grail year, a pop of color that really enhances the look of dubwerks pride & joy ! Any other vehicle, whether a low cost or high end vehicle with a red interior, IMO, looks cheap - but hey - that's just me ... Prost - Slainte' - Cheers !

    Dear 5150mxVW 🙋
👍👌👏 That's pretty unbelievable! Although everything is so rotten and rusty, the engine actually turns! 😱 I wasn't expecting this at all.
    2) Florian Rauscheder pulled out a similarly rotten bus out of the woods. Maybe checking his firsr steps will help you? On the other hand: There is always Marcijunebug with her even older bus named Pickle. She stiffened the car pretty well and built herself an awesome contraption to turn the complete vehicle.
Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all of you.

The large knob below the front seat was for the stock heater boxes. The other two would have been choke and the other most likely for the gas heater in the engine compartment. I admire your willingness to tackle a project like this, there are definitely some nice salvageable tid bits but don't know that they would recoup your time and cash spent. It is truly wild that the motor is free, you know that it will run! what's the hold up?

OK I've been there. Get a Beetle pan with swing arm and beam installed as a "roller. the Bus is the same wheel base as Beetle and can be gently transferred from trailer to pan . Remove front beam on Bus and rear trans/engine. Of course weld some angle iron inside to maintain integrity .

Mike FN Garage will guide you !, his bucket truck was worse than that one to restore. The chassis is simpler than a beetle, so a good project to construct a new replacement frame if you can get one already made. I think the body shell is so rotten the frame will part company with it when you start to separate it…
