Your video is good. The pygmy date palm is a real challenge up north. Others would be easier. Glad you learned from the experience and look forward to more updates
I think you don’t have to heat the ground, because the ground around the trunk is inside the Greenhouse. I only heat with christmaslights C 9 around the trunk from the bottom to top. (Sago palm)
Thanks for that tip! The palms you're heating, they are in the ground outside, unpotted?? I think around the base of the trunk (close to the surface) the ground is not so cold, I think it's further deep that might be the problem. The melting snow/ice soaking up the underground I think is the concern.
Congratulations that you managed to keep it alive, so much hard work and dedication went to keeping it alive. Suggestion that you can try Pindo palm/butia capitata also known as Jelly palm in your garden, it has a bit tropical look to it as well but pindo palms are more cold hardy than pygmy palm. And it's fruit's are also edible. Can't wait to see more updates on your pygmy palms.
See some of my older videos. I did much the same. Tbh that palm is hard to even keep indoors. Stick to windmill or needle palms. Even Mexican fan palms. Where did you get that nice looking tree? Great video thank you for sharing!
On days not colder then -9 celcius, the cost, at 11 cents per KWh, would be about $3.08 (for the whole day). On days colder then -9 celcius, I would use one or two small propane canisters, which would raise the day's cost up to about $15.

Thank you! I'll make an update soon.
Really good job on the video. Keep us posted of its progress.
Thanks Jeremy! I'll make an update video soon.
Nice man!
Thx!

Awesome video. Which garden centre imports these trees ? Thanks.

Thank you! Wonderful suggestion. I'll try to give it a shot!
Mash'Allah, glad to see it's alive and well! 😎👍
Tougher to protect a double pygmy. On a single trunk ones it is easy to tie fronds and build a small foamboard box enclosure which is easy to heat.
Hmmm. Does tying the fronds damage them?

There was a garden center in Norfolk county, southern Ontario, that was selling these. Picked it up there. Thanks for the advice. Might try that next.
What is the electricity costs to maintain it?
