I'll be honest, the cogs are something that I've got to play around with to get to work. The best I can recommend is having the left and right crusher separate from each other. In hind sight, it might be worth it to have 2x steam engines. Or... now that I am thinking about it, it might be better to run it with 2x water wheels (going in opposite directions). Big cog on the water wheel, small cogs off of that (big to small steps up the speed). If it is not fast enough, I think you can step the water wheel up one more time (big cog (connected by the axle, not the teeth) off of the small cog, then another small cog (connected by teeth) off of the new big cog.
@@JackelWolf yep im running 3 water wheels and powering both of em just fine, till i can find out more on how to expand my steam engine ill just use them
I made the steam engine (Thanks!) But I placed the lever where you placed it, and the arrow was in the opposite direction, but when I placed the handcrank somewhere else, it worked!
What not your kind of mod....lol....I can not stop playing modded Minecraft now that I found out about mods...I only ever played in creative on PS4, but now with mods on my PC. I am trying a hard survival and loving it. The vid helped out with the steam so thanks to Jackel Wolf for putting the time to make it.
Thanks! I appreciate hearing that. I think James just means that the Create mod itself is not his type of mod. I know he plays quite a bit of modded. 😅
I set up the whole system exactly as you had it and when it came to hand cranking it to start, yours started but mine refused. The only ways ive been able to get it started is with a water wheel but that takes me hours of fiddling and can't consistently get it right. I'm just mostly confused because i followed all your steps and i've troubleshooted quite a lot
When you use the crank, make sure the arrows on the pump point in the right direction. The flow changes depending on the direction the direction the gear is turned. It can be hard to see, so you might have to position yourself above the pump.
Do you have any loads on the steam engine when you are trying to start it? I believe that having machines attached will increase resistance and make it harder to start with the hand pump. I had to use the water wheel as well once I added more pumps, just because the most the hand crank would handle was 2 (I think).
@@JackelWolf it was literally the exact same as yours 😭 I would study your video and then recreate it step by step and I'd double check everything. I tried so many ways after a while and managed to get it started with a water wheel. But then my parter hopped on and followed your video and it worked first try 🤣 never figured out what it was but oh well. It honestly might have just been a glitch
Can you transport the steam you produce to another location and link a steam engine to it? So that way you have one centralized steam production station where you pipe the steam throughout your base?
You might. I've never seem it done. You could try building it in creative and seeing if it helps. There are some engineer goggles you can build that will let you see the output.
Glad the vid helped. I think the hard part is the mechanical pump. The 'ponder' page doesn't really talk about upping the speed to get the engine running, or needing to keep the speed above a certain point. And it can be pretty hard to see what direction the pump is pointing.
Is the water pumping in the right direction? Even if you line up the arrow on the water pump, it can change direction depending on your gear system. Also, do you have enough water pumps? Larger tanks require more water.
@@JackelWolf I figured out what was wrong, i had a water wheel turning the mechanical pump but it was turning too slow, the engine was using the water faster than it was recieving it but thanks for your help. 👍 You make great content dont stop making videos.
Yeah. They are super easy to overload, especially with a full set of mechanical crafters, or even something like the crushing wheel. I am constantly fiddling with mine.
@@JackelWolf Eventually got it up and running w/ two sets of of steam engines. but noticed it wasn't churning fast enough to use the mixer unless I hand cranked the extra speed out of it. I can't seem to figure out how to get it fast enough w/o over stressing it once I connect it to everything using your setup. at a loss lol
I havnt built the mixer yet. May have to give it a shot as I am surprised it would take more than the crushing wheel. There are something called engineer goggles that let you see the stats on various parts, might help you troubleshoot.
How can you tell it's not taking in water? I don't think there is a display once you turn the tanks onto the boiler. As long as your pumps are facing the right direction (and the gear is turning the right way (pump will change direction depending on what way the gear is cranked.
Ok. That narrows the potential problems down. How many water pumps are you using? Depending on how big the boiler is, you will need more. My upgraded boiler is 4 or 5 layers and uses 3 pumps. I've seen bigger though, so it could take more.
I know. It seems counter intuitive, but I guess you are technically powering the 'pump', not the steam engine itself. It's kinda like starting a car, the engine needs an 'electrical kick' before it starts powering itself??? Maybe?
@@JackelWolf I was in my stoneblock 3 world attempting to make it power itself myself. But I remembered idk how to use redstone anymore, so I didn't know how to add an on/off switch lol

same to me!
for some reason the arrow doesnt turn for me so the pump doesnt suck water, but the hand crank goes in another way when i shift
Thanks for the help! I followed your guide to making the steam engine and it finally worked.
Nice! Glad it helped. I still think it is finicky, but it I not a bad power source.
Been looking for a vid to help me with this ngl this was one of the most easy and imformative vid i could find. Kuddos

I never would have got this on my own due to how weird the cog placement is. Thanks for this, earned a sub.

I had not seen the Create steam engine before. Thanks! Create does not seem like my kind of mod but I suppose I will play with it eventually.
Lol. I agree. The gears and conveyors are cool looking, but give me nice clean pipes and generators anyday.

how did he set up the encased fan in the background? i tried it and i am not getting it to work
Thanks for the steam engine video jackel I was wondering how I could upgrade my power source after the water wheel!
Yeah. The water wheel is a good starting point, and I'm going to have to build one eventually, but the steam engine is a natural next step.
tell me why it doesn't work if the water pours in as it is without the steam engine and not with the engine?
Sorry. I'm not sure what you mean?

So hard to say. The gears can be pretty finicky as well. Glad you got it sorted though.
my issue with this set up is that once you go to level 2 (blaze burners) and feed them, one of the cogs pop off EVERY time...
Cool video! I was wondering how all this worked :)

mine moves the cogs, but doesn't ever get faster, so the steam engine isn't doing more than helping my handcrank run it. any tips?
i forgot to put heat under it. how do i get more heat than lava?
still working! thank you
One hand crank to rule them all!
