  • I'm alone and I am in Yaoundé, Cameroon so let's go explore and see what this African city has to offer. I stayed at the Star Land Hotel Bastos which is the newest hotel in Yaoundé and it was pretty good and not too expensive.
I made a full series around Cameroon from Yaoundé to Kribi and more which you can watch with this playlist! • Cameroon 🇨🇲

One GoPro, one Land Cruiser and one Canadian, that sounds like the perfect mix. I started by going on top of the highest mountain in Yaoundé called Mont Fébé from where you get a beautiful view of the city.
From there, a quick stop at the first ever mall in Yaoundé which was very nice I have to say.
And this is where the adventure starts! I made my way to Parc de la Méfou which is a primate sanctuary about 90 minutes from Yaoundé city centre... DO NOT use Google Map to go there! It made me take the weirdest route but I have no regrets because I met some... interesting people to say the least. Once there I have the opportunity to see many apes, gorillas and so much more.
After a quick stop at the Reunification Monument I decided to go the the Hilton Hotel Yaounde for dinner because I heard that there is bats there at night!
Overall a great day of discovering Yaounde. I really hope to go back and visit the western part of Cameroon!

There is war in the English zone right now. The people that speak French are killing, torturing, black people in the English zone, southern Cameroon genocide. Millions of English speakers have fleed the country to Nigeria, and much more. Thousands and thousands have died in the hands of the military of the french government. My people have been killed, genocide ways, even people from my tribe that I know have been killed in gruesome manners by the french military. Cameroon military. This has been going on for over 5 Years yet no one tries to help us the English Cameroonians, specifically Southern Cameroon. We have protested in the west, Europe, USA, and many countries but no one tries to help us. We the English speaking Cameroon have oils, we have many resources. This is not a war of between french and English. This started just when our people were protesting peacefully with palm leaves, how they were marginalized, how badly they were treated by the french government.
Cameroon is two countries that came together to form a federation. But that never happened. The people in southern Cameroon want to go back to their federation or separate and be their own country. Both countries had separate independence dates.

Hey Dave. Thank you for visiting my country. Am glad you had a nice time. By the way Dave here are some few things I think you need to know.
Its not always rainy in Cameroon. We are currently at the end of the rainy season and Yaounde is rainy probably because of the elevation of the city.
We are Cameroonians in English et les Camerounaise en Francais pas les "Cameronise" as you called it the only Bilingual nation in Africa.
The food at the hotel was expensive because those are very classy places. You can basically eat more than what you ate at the Hilton Holtel for as little as 1000 francs. Well next time do get in contact with a local and you will experience the real beauty of Cameroon. Cameroon is not expensive you just need to know where to look so you'll not be exploited.
When next you come please visit the South West especially the coastal city of Limbe. I bet you you'll love it. There's some great cuisine you need to try so many local dishes like Ndole, eru, achu and so many others.

Cameroon is not the only bilingual country in Africa. It is one of two countries in Africa (the other being Mauritius) that has English and French as official languages.
Tchad has French and Arabic as official languages, making it ' 'bilingual' like the over 20 countries in Africa that have more than one official language.

@@edwardmkwelele That will fall in the category of the 'over 20 African countries' that can be classified as being bilingual as my original comment posits.
My initial posting was directed to the commenter Ebong who claimed that Cameroon is 'only bilingual country in Africa'.
So yes, you're right. Bilingual simply means 'speaking two languages fluently '. Most, if not all countries in Africa are multilingual. Countries categorized as monolingual or bilingual usually refers to the official languages in use.

Wow. This brought memories back. I lived in Bastos or rather Cameroon for 7 months and the first time I arrived in Yaounde, was taken to Mont Febe. Beautiful views of Yaoundé from there. I did not know they had a Ape sanctuary I would have gone to see them. Thank you as always for such a rich presentation from a very short stay.

Fantastic video!!! You made me feel, homesick, as I was born and raised in Yaoundé and lived there for most of my childhood, till I was 15 in 1985, when I went to London to finish school. I was still visiting my parents, every Xmas and the last time I was there, was in 1998 for a photoshoot.
There are many more beautiful places to see in Cameroon. A beautiful country, I will always have in my heart.

As a Cameroonian, Thank you Dave for visiting Cameroon, the video is absolutely amazing but I saw something that is not fair, the two guys you found on the road while you were going to the park, they did something that is good, they asked money they're not supposed to ask you. Normally when a tourist come in your country, you have welcome them in a good way, tell them about your culture, give them your favorite diches and so on and so on. As a Cameroonian we apologize for that behavior that they behaved. May you read this comment.

I disagree with your ideology. There is nothing wrong asking for help from a stranger who looks well off. He could have offered something to them also. I'm from Cameroon also and when I go back to visit I always offer little change to family members or even strangers I get in contact with. He didn't have to give them anything if he didn't want to. Even in the Bible it's said "ask and it shall be given to you". There is nothing wrong asking for help from someone who looks privileged.
