    That flashlight uses 1 of the same 2170 cells that make up the Rivian battery pack. The battery pack contains 7,776 of the 2170 type cells so they wanted to use one more to make 7,777 cells in total so came up with the flashlight.
    Also, the lock/unlock chirp was an actual recording of a bluebird here in Yellowstone National Park. Nice touch and much less noise pollution compared to how many vehicles use the loud horn to signal. This chirp, or a separate electronic sound, is much better than car horns going off all around you in a parking lot, parking garage, trailhead or campground.

    • @Kulric
      @Kulric 2 роки тому

      From what I have seen online, the flashlight actually has an 18650 in a holder. Maybe they intended to use a 2170 but in the end went with the smaller battery.

      @@GuyWithTheDogs That is what we do with all our vehicles (turn off the unneeded audio alert for locking/unlocking doors with fob), but most do not so I'm always VERY thankful when manufacturers use an audio alert that is less intrusive (like the Rivian chirp or some vehicles fairly quiet beep) rather than having the car horn sound as the alert.

    I have a Landcruiser which is my favorite car of all time. The R1S is essentially an electrical Landcruiser. Love the split tailgate- more SUVs need this approach. I was able to drive the R1S last week. Super impressive- fit and finish better than Tesla. Nice to have this option out there

      I also have a Landcruiser and not sure where the similarities are aside from cruising range which is not great for either. Toyota is typically 10 years behind in tech and this vehicle is 10 years in the future. Unless you mean the overland modded cruisers that have built-in compressors, AC outlets installed, etc. Even the LX with air suspension doesn't do anything close to the drive modes this does.

      Not sure about the rivian. But the Tesla model 3 charge port door is heated and doesn’t freeze shut. The model 3 has a similar door handle to the rivian (but is manual, doesn’t self present like the Rivian). Those can freeze, but the door can be opened from the app on the phone in those conditions. As long as the door itself isn’t frozen shut (happens on all cars in cold climates likes ours), the app will pop open the driver door regardless if the handle is frozen. I don’t know if Rivian has something like this, I can only speak to the Model 3.

LED lights are great for brightness, but not great while snowing as the headlights tend to get covered with snow and your light output decreases quickly. All controls in 1 central location will be expected and appreciated and even easy to conform to by those that follow in our footsteps. But I agree with you, decades of driving standard control locations being removed is disconcerting. What we have for memory control on automatic now has to be re-wired to try and adapt to a whole new way of inputing adjustments. However, in theory, these things should be set before one is driving and thus does not require us to just reach over and make changes on the fly.

    love the rivian, but it's so expensive. Also just rented a tesla and realize I really hate how almost everything is done on the touch screen for these electric cars. Can be very tedious if you want to adjust something on the fly, and is honestly kind of overwhelming trying to find different settings for everything. Like changing the a/c and heat you have to find and switch to that screen, than a different screen for mirrors, and a different screen for the radio. It involves a lot of looking at the screen and not the road vs the traditional way of doing a lot of these things where you don't really have to put much focus on those things. Also something a lot of ppl might not care about but locking the car door when you get inside, that's another screen as far as I could tell. Not ideal if you're a cautious person or find yourself in a situation where you need to keep someone else out

    Should have addressed the three row seating. Almost no attention was paid to space and comfort of the back seats. Another reviewer mentioned not having powered third row fold down, and how odd and inconvenient it was for a 100k truck. We need more in-depth and comparative reviews for this and the r1t. The R1t is longer and has that gear tunnel with potential camp kitchen. Is the any world from rivian about cool R1s specific add ons?

Develop a sport version without all of the extra tech (for the sake of adding tech), give me knobs to adjust climate, radio, mirrors, cut the price by at least 25% and i would consider purchasing one.

    I don't like having the only option for traditional controls like mirrors to be in the infotainment. One of the main tenants of UI/UX is that things should work as most people would expect it to. My friend has a Ford Flex and the heated seats are only on screen. This forces the driver to take his eyes off the road to adjust them. For a passenger who is unfamiliar with Ford Sync you are forced to ask the driver. Ridiculous!

    Good static review! Thanks for making the effort. Your other videos speak more to the driving performance and dynamics of the vehicle. There clearly is a lot to like. Question is, at the current price, whether the features and functions are worth it. Depends a lot on your resources, resource allocation strategy, and the alternatives. Depends on what you are comparing this vehicle to. How important is having a BEV for a daily driver? How important is the 7-passenger capability? How important is off-road performance? How important is on-road performance? And it depends on your willingness to deal with an automotive startup. As another commenter mentions, Munro & Associates have been doing teardown analysis videos on the R1T (the truck version of the SUV) for several months now, which give some insight into build quality and possible reliability. So there's a lot of information available. One feature/function of the vehicle is its wading depth. I live in an area that has significant flood risk. So this feature--combined with a few others--make the vehicle attractive. But this car certainly won't be for everyone.

    I want to like the Rivian vehicles - I really do - but all of the electronic and touch screen controls for simple functions (like moving AC vents) just completely kills the enjoyability of this vehicle!!
    Just because it can be done, doesn't mean it should be done.
    I feel like all of the "electric only" vehicle manufacturers over-engineer their vehicles to the point where it's difficult to use the most basic functions on the vehicle!!!
