Warmup improv with the R8

I had to throw some new strings on the R8 because it was sounding a bit sour. Old worn out strings have that distinct sound, and it isn't a pleasant one. It would be great if they could have that crusty sound without the loss of intonation, but what the heck.
Do you find your guitar strings become non-tunable once they get played for too many hours?
