  • 5K 60fps takeoff footage from Queenstown Airport in the South Island of New Zealand onboard an Airbus A320-200 captured on my GoPro 11. The flight was with Jetstar up to Auckland.
*I filmed it in 5.3K but not sure if UA-cam will publish it at 4K or 5.3.

Some nice spooling up sound of the engines as the plane accelerated down the runway soon to be in the air and then some magnificent snow covered mountains panorama on a glorious sunny day. The joys of flying! Some great footage Paul.

Stunning indeed Paul . Is there any better IFE than that . I’ve flown that departure but from the other side of the cabin , you bought back some great memories . You captured the whole departure perfectly . Thanks Paul and my best wishes .

Many thanks for posting that. I've had the pleasure of clocking up probably 20 odd flights into NZQN over the years. Firstly in NAC Fokker Friendships and Boeing 737s then Mt.Cook HS748s, and Air NZ A320s. My great-grandfather built a holiday hut in Arrowtown in about 1890, and my brother now lives in it after making additions, hence the frequent trips. The approach to Rwy23 over the Kawerau River is very interesting in low heavy cloud, because when you do descend out of the clouds you see just a huge mountainside next to your port side that is the north face of The Remarkables. Best wishes from Brisbane.

NAC never flew into Queenstown. It was the exclusive domain of Mount Cook Airlines during the days of heavily-regulated airlines in Aotearoa New Zealand. Although on a couple of occasions, Mount Cook did charter Friendships from Air New Zealand, but that was after the merger between Air NZ and NAC.

@@robertscott4759 Many thanks for the clarification. I vaguely remember flying in the F-27 when i was about 3 years old back in the mid 1960s. Must have my Nelson-Wellington flights mixed up with CHCH-ZQN ones.

Incredible! Would you recommend sitting on right or left side of the airplane?

left is best with a southern departure, but both sides are prob the same for a northern departure (so i would try and avoid the side with the sun)

Tourism isn't New Zealand's main economic driver and we would be just fine with limited tourist numbers, in fact better off now as were reopening our oil, mineral and gas industries back up ... BTW it's Tax Payer Funded Health care NOT free Health Care ! --- We never needed that God Awful Airport and we still dont, if they want to come here they should pay to drive, bus or fly small aircraft into an airfield well out of Queenstown !
