In my opinion, Sapphire's version sounds like a farewell song to a lover while Minmi's is more innocent, like a child. They are both incredible in terms of lyrics and music. Now that I have heard the translation, I find this song extremely fitting for Mugen, Fuu and Jin's journey together, especially for the ending. I will have to say that after so many years of hearing many remixes of the whole S.C OST, this is one of the best Skiki's No Uta Eng covers I have heard. Got the gift.
Im no otaku, and dont know Japanese to begin with, but i usually don't listen to English covers for long, its like listening to Spanish covers of System of a Down for instance.. Not to mention, they're usually dramatized (echo, auto tune, jazzed up and essentially forced for better flow), and is usually just difficult to do, though I always respect the attempt. As for this, I came here expecting the original, when I started hearing English I actually had two reactions. One split moment was "oops, let's get the real one, no wonder the instrument was different", but 2 words into the song, my reaction changed to "hmm, this sounds pretty good." Next thing I know, I listened through the whole song... outstanding cover! Easy the best I've heard.
My opinion changed... I investigated more covers, and Sapphire's version of Real Folk Blues was a flawless fit with the original counterpart. Im honored to be able to subscribe.

Something else I noticed upon looking up the translation of the original is that the two convey pretty different messages. In this version, there's hope that her significant other is alive and well, just far away. While, in the original, i think it's made clear that the other person has passed away, and theres a more serene, melancholy feeling of having to move on.

I really love this song. But the memorabilia it gives me is something I'd rather not recall. More than just memories. A factual reality, and I hate it.
Imagine listening to this song as the man she's singing these lyrics about. To be reminded of all those hearts you've unintentionally "stolen" whether or not that was in your favor, told of how now they can't even begin to carve you out of their existence despite how hard they've tried -- let alone those who didn't, and instead give chase.
And I can't help but feel as if I'm a scourge to be reckoned with. Some sort of emotional plague culminated for the sole intention of bringing ruin to all those longing for love in a man like myself. Makes me nauseous. So much so, as if urging to vomit my sins of being who I am in that regard.
That's why I love this song. Keeps me in check.
