    Been doing this for 50 years or more, it's basic electronics. Germanium diode voltage drop ~0.2V, Silicon diode voltage drop ~0.7V. Use diodes frequently to slow down PC fans.

    I connected four diodes and reduced the voltage from 12v to 10.8v, but the diodes heat up a lot...how to solve the problem with the diodes overheating. I want to lower the voltage from 12v to 9.6v

      Use a high ampere diode as per your need if u wanna used 3 amps go witb 6 amp diodes and if 6 amps go with 10 amps diode and use a heatsing with lots of heat paste and a fan

    Though, there is a voltage drop. However, the diode was noted to heat up after connection, Why? Or is there any other way to do this?

      The diode is heating based on power formula: E*I Another solution would be to use a standard voltage regulator IC.

I learned about this over 40 years ago when i was like 8 years old. Clickbait titles are bullshit and waste peoples time.     this quite handy if you just want to drop 1 or 2 volt for your electronic rather than using serial and need calculate the output formula until your head bald, with this you just plug in dc output, of course dioda will geat warm, but its only 3 watts, you can add heatsink to it

    Diodes at a no current draw have a fix resistance. But when a changing load current is applied, doesn't the resistance change in the Diode, causing voltage to change, In something like higher the current draw. then the resistance lowers, causing voltage to rise across the Diode.

      In diode if the load current get higher then resistance also increase and stop when voltage drop across diode is 0.7v

      buy a 3v fixed tiny dc buck-down converter from aliexpress. costs like 2 dollars included shipping. and it isn't linear like this method.

      It could be that these are not silicon diodes. A Schottky diode will drop around .2V. Assuming these are silicon, my guess would be that there is no actual current flowing (because only one end of the diode string is connected) and the meter impedance of 10M ohms does not pull enough current through the diodes to make them conduct. So what you are seeing is the static charge through the diodes. The voltage drop as shown is because of the impedance of the non-conducting diode junction vs the meter impedance.
