  • The scallop trawler at the center of a row between the UK and France has returned home.
The Cornelis Gert Jan had spent six days in the French port of Le Havre after French authorities seized the vessel claiming it did not have EU approval to fish in its waters.
France had insisted that the boat’s owners pay a deposit of $177,000 pending a trial, however a court in Rouen said the boat and its crew were free to leave on Wednesday without having to pay the money.
French, UK and EU officials meet in Paris on Thursday for further discussions on fishing licenses, one of the contentious points of the Brexit deal that came into force this year.
