This scene is so good, this show is so good... it was WELL before it's time, tackled issues that no other show ever had, and made millions really think about what life & death meant. All time favorite show.
Something interesting: Ruth and Sara's contrast is the exact parallel as David and Nathan! Really cool thing to pick up looking back at the series. Such wonderful cast and character moments!
It is oddly familiar to any sibling dynamics. It isn't rare to see one sibling stay in the hometown living in limbo while the other leaves home. It seems like the one who leaves home may appear to having more fun, but living away from family and losing connections with blood relatives and family can also be incredibly sad and lonely. It always seems to be greener on the other side.
A person doesn't have to have a friggin' clue who these characters are or what this series is about...and yet they can be instantly drawn in by a scene such as this, because it is executed with such honesty, natural emotion and is utterly relatable. Beautifully written and acted, both sad and dryly humorous, as is the entire series.
@@igloozoo3771Alan Ball is a gay man who is himself very “woke” 😂 I love that you don’t know that. He is in a long term relationship with the man who plays the art teacher Olivier Castro-Staal in this very show.
@@Ohnoitsruthio I am gay and I am not woke. You don't seem to know the difference. Maybe Alan succumbed to the woke virus, but many liberals 20 years ago aren't today's woke Democrats. Notice how he portrayed David in SFU. He and Keith met in Church. Gay people used to attend Church and were Christians? Yes.
The way Patricia Clarkson says "Fun" cuts into my soul

Frances Conroy is so, so good in this series

I was thinking the same thing as I rewatched this scene. This show still holds up and still moves me after all these years.

Sarah
Nathaniel
“I was in Peru.” Best line 😂 just proves Ruth’s point in the end. But no life is without hardship and that was Sarah’s point.

Wow. So many Alan Ball scenes go so deep, to the very heart of things.
I think Alan Ball is having a hard time getting more projects because of this woke generation.
@@igloozoo3771 Yawn.

Amazing show, 4 stars, Excellent. This scene and so many others, Raw, real emotion
Season 2 fantastic. A lot character development, personal issues, and growth was witnessed in it.
This is world class acting by the most amazing and seasoned actors. TAKE NOTES!
Thanks! One of my favorite scenes from the whole series. Really, really loved the writing and acting here!
Same
I think this is one of my favorite scenes in the entire series.
20yrs is a long time. Neither of them had a better life. They made different choices..
I love Sarah.
I love Patricia Clarkson. She's an excellent actress.
Ruth resembles my mother. Perpetual martyrs both
This hurts to watch as its so similar to my situation.
let me finish mopping
They remind me of me and my sister
She wanted the life that Ruth had
which episode it is?
Season 2 Episode 6; "In Place of Anger"
How did Sarah have the means to travel?
She didn’t have kids. That helps a lot I think. At least for me. I have three. I can’t even go to a restaurant sometimes.😂
All of the main characters on this show are solidly upper middle class.
