- EXCLUSIVE B-roll footage, provided by @Kafkodesu, featuring the point of view of an M1 Abrams tank loader.
This helmet camera video shows detailed inside and outside episodes of an M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank crew working together while conducting Gunnery Table V(training) and Gunnery Table VI (qualification).
Gunnery Tables are used to train crews to acquire and perfecting their gunnery skills through various conditions.
Each table has a specific purpose, which collective builds the crew up in proficiency until the last table, which consists of numerous targets and maneuvers, where the crew attempts to qualify on the vehicle.
Tank crewmen are expected to effectively hit the simulated targets to qualify and be mission ready.

A word of caution for those watching. I would just observe that US Army service vehicle interiors are considered CUI. I'm easy to track down, I was speaking to a G.O. two days after I released without prior approval a three second clip of the back of an MGS. I've not shown the inside of front-line US equipment since (I would like to make full-bird). If this video went through PAO, then great, but I might mention such in the description before people get wrong ideas.

B. Co. 1-64 AR, 1ABCT, 3rd infantry division. Had the awesome pleasure of commanding a tank with them at JRTC 2023. This footage is old, though. The tank used here is the SEPV2. They now have the V3.

Outside of having to wait for the ammo door to open, the loader is pretty quick at feeding the cannon.

I noticed the sight for the gunner and TC are set up to use ur right eye to aim/look into. Can you shift the brow rest over so u can use ur left eye if ur left eye has better eye sight. About to go to BCT for 19k with 20/20 left eye vision and 20/80 right eye vision

The loaders go through extensive training to maintain 5 to sub 4 second reload times.
@@jeremyacevedo65925 or 4 is impossible, only if tank staying still,loader keeps ammunition door open and know exactly where every type of shell is placed so he don’t waste time to search it
@Desertwolf399 I'm not bragging when I say this. I'm a tank commander. I have witnessed firsthand MANY soldiers, some of them in my unit, loading while the tank is on the move, in less than 5 seconds. I promise you it is possible.

Anyone else worried about the commander's knee when he was standing on the seat?
Do not reload instantly, it is dangerous, I saw that every time you shoot you reload, and this is serious if you are not sure and they can shoot you while you are reloaded.

Wow! The thickness of the turret top looked remarkably thin, too thin to be composite armour, if that's just an inch of rolled armoured steel then we have discovered that the Abrams has the same weak spot as Russian tanks. Yes the shells may be in a protected bin in the rear bustle so less likely to blow the turret off if hit, but when an anti tank missile comes in for a top down strike then that molten stream of metal particles is going to give the turret crew a very bad day, how many have been lost in combat, 278?

I think only like 70 have been lost (destroyed, captured, or abandoned) but idk. I know that there’s very few destroyed Abrams because it’s been used against weak insurgencies for the past couple decades and they don’t have that great of at ability

@@nickmail7604 I’m talking about u.s. losses. we train our troops much better than whatever they can manage, and have much newer models, no offense. Besides, lumping in export losses with domestic is a bad thing. Russian t72 losses would be thousands higher due to Iraq losing their entire stock in the gulf war.
Pretty sure only the swedish? version of Leopard 2 has improved roof armor. Every other MBT usually just has a few cm of homogeneous steel.

Autoloaders break down, are generally fussy, and can’t take watch, operate tertiary armament, or help repair the tank. Human loaders offer better flexibility of ammo type selection, mechanical simplicity, and can often outpace autoloaders in short bursts. The K2 has a great system, I’ll give you that, but it just doesn’t fit into our tank doctrine.

Aint like theres a medium machine gun inside the fighting compartment thats shooting hundreds of rounds and a huge 120mm main gun too. Obviously they have ear protection but, lets be real, going into military service, you WILL sacrifice some of your hearing.
I would think the 120mm gun would be more damaging to one’s hearing than the turbine, wouldn’t you?
@@warweasel2832with the headset on the main gun is dampened pretty well and the are noise canceling headsets. But that whine is too high of a pitch to really get stopped that much, so it just goes right through, it's why so many of us have tinnitus after a gunnery or two.
@@nucleus691the guns get blocked out pretty well, but the whine doesn't.
With the CVC on, the whine is very, very low, and the guns are near quiet when fired.

So you do get Bose noise canceling headphones, but they don't cut out the whine you hear. Plenty of tankers get tinnitus or worse hearing loss, which usually gets covered by VA (I got tinnitus from my.time in the tank, all I can claim is hearing aids through my state for free).

@@warweasel2832the K2 is an infinitely superior tank, it has far superior upper glacis protection (the Abrams only has 38.1mm RHA steel) and 3rd gen (instead of 2nd gen) thermals

I worked at an environmental testing laboratory back in the 70s and we received units from Chrysler and FMC which, along with automotive components, included the upper plate for the preproduction XM1 Abrams. Yes, it is 38.1mm. Yes, this is not sensitive information and it is well known that this is still the case even with the latest Sep v3 variant, there are countless images that prove that the thickness of this plate has not changed. It is also common knowledge that the M1A2 Sep v3 is still using 2nd generation thermal imagers, which is inferior to the 3rd generation Catherine FC thermals from France, the 3rd gen PKT manufactured in Russia, and the 3rd KGPS produced by the ROK. The bottom line is ANY 3rd generation thermal imager is going to outperform a 2nd gen. On top of that, the K2 is one of the only tanks in the world that is equipped with an L-band pulsed Doppler radar system integrated with the fire control system on top of the same rangefinders and sensors like the abrams, which means it’s target tracking ability is far better and can acquire targets at much greater distances. Its time to pick up a book kiddo

Tank cap has hearing protection its doable.
You get used to it very quickly. You're so focused on listening to your TC or gunner you start to tune it out. The hearing protection on the CVC helmets help too.

@@luigigunner "Up" is the only requirement of the fire command sequence, but many loaders (including me) would always say the round first to verify and ensure the gunner was reminder about what he was about to fire. Setting for HEAT when a sabot is in the breech is a recipe for a flyaway round.

I was one of the lucky souls to get a tour of a military bases newest Abram’s model when I went up to one. (I’m a civilian btw) I got to sit in every seat in it, got a history brief on it and a small bit of history behind the M1A2 Abrams tank.
