Ouch!
For god sake
Ha ha ha!
(I lover her, but i think it's fun because she seem to be a kind person in reality, at least i think she is. :) )

I do not blame you! :-) She is just hilarious!

Yeah uncle kendy
Mrs Crocombe should make a fish pie. Give us more cooking videos please! I need something to watch at 2 am
Definitely thought that was Hugh Laurie in the thumbnail for a second.
Me too! Had to do a double take! 😂
Me too, that's why I clicked rofl!
Amelia Brown
Me, as well!
Vera Didenko
I know, I wish they would name the actors in the description box. Poor guys never get any credit!
I did too, that’s why I watched it 😋
What a gorgeous looking wild man, those eyes
Music on the background of the tale is mesmerizing! Absolutely love it
Thank you for this. I thoroughly enjoyed it. And was quite pleased to see our Mrs. Crocombe.
Hmm, I would have guessed the historical roots of this story were that some fishermen found a shipwrecked foreign sailor. It would explain why he didn't speak English and if he looked sufficiently non-English, that would have led to the sort of human but not really description. Him returning to the town for a few months could have been the result of his first escape attempt failing. Escape is all well and good, but without a way to get home or communicate with the locals, he would have been dependent on the people who found him until he figured out a plan that went beyond escaping.
You have a point but my a question remains in my mind... How did he end up naked??
yoginc, Wet clothes can be very heavy. He probably pulled them off to keep from being drug under by the weight.
I like this explanation!👍
@@yoginc shipwreck? Fever?

Mrs Crocombe: the Time Lord
That woman looks oddly Familiar.
A cousin, twice removed from your mother's side, perhaps. 😉
@@Eowyn3Pride No, her father's side!
Another wonderfully done video from English Heritage. This channel is wonderful as far as education on England's heritage. The videos are always so well done with wonderful actors and terrific explanations.
Old Gregg! They pulled him up with their strong arms.
More folklore please! I love folklore and I wonder why we don't get to hear about English folklore as much as we get to hear about other aspects of their culture?🤔
Much as I love watching the delightful Miss Crocombe , please forgive me for being distracted from the story by her presence. 🙏🏼
Agreed! I'm pleasantly surprised to see her here. I knew she didn't live in the kitchens but still...
I really love this story section by English Heritage. They're not such well-known tales, but that's why I like them so much; unusual and magical. In addition, they are certainly very educational. Keep up the good work! :)
Thanks, I love these Folktales.
I was so hoping our time traveling heroine, Mrs. Crocombe, would make an appearance. I was not disappointed.
"We want to learn about this strange gentleman, but he doesn't speak English."
"We will torture it into him!"
That is the most stereotypical British response ever. Poor wild man. :(
Alicia Nyblade ....sounds a bit American too actually lol
@@WyattRyeSway I thought the same thing (and I'm American).
@@WyattRyeSway we American's learned from the masters.
@@KJ-xx6xr .....meaning?
Fast becoming one of my favorite series. This is a wonderful and weird story, thank you!
Wow, I've never heard of this story! Thank you for sharing! You guys have a special place in my heart. The love and dedication you have for your history is praiseworthy!
So beautiful and well done!! Keep up the good work!
So sad they tortured the fellow.
Yeah... white people....
@@yoginc not just white
Not really fair, look at how natives of America or rare tribes were supposed to have treated the alien white Man
The wild man of Orford, or Mrs. Crocombe goes on Plenty of Fish .com
Dear Dr Hutton. I love that you find the idea that the wild man would hang around after being tortured improbable, but his existence passes muster. 😘
Thank you so much for dramatizing this tale!
I remember reading about this when i was a student in the school library.
The tale puzzled me greatly and piqued my interest in all things Fortean.
Wow! These just keep getting better and better!
I take it all back, Mrs C is FOR SURE the next doctor! Also, is it possible that the wild man was just a seal? 😂
Ellen Karlsson Doctor who?
For this tale
You will need
These are so good, please make more!
I love these stories! .. But this fellow is quite unfortunate. Pulled out from the see, put directly into a hole and then tortured. This wasn't his lucky day I guess.
Aquaman's English great-great-grandfather !
I like these types of stories for my own thing. Thank you.
Brilliant, love these videos!
I love these stories!
So, Sirius Black fell into The Veil, ended up in the late 12th century, was tortured for a week for not understanding Old English and then slipped off to the new-ish Hogwarts, only coming back to find his wand.
Haha, anyway, this was absolutely lovely. We always knew Mrs C was a kind lady.
Yee! So happy to see more of tales from English folklore. My favorite series aside from Vicorian cooking!
Love, love, loved this ♡ Especially the very beginning! Such a treat, thank you! :)
What a beautiful story and wonderfully made.
You guys should do songs and shanties from English folk lore.
Fantastic story, I love it! I hope it's true, sort of.
I came for the Crocombe.
I love these historical shorts. I just wish the producers would run the credits or put a name on the face I only recognize the woman from Audley House, and the professor at the end. Great fun! Thank you!
I love it!!!
I ❤ this
I really enjoyed this series, will there be more? Beautiful presentation and I love the added touch at the end with Professor Hutton.
Just to be clear, it’s not Hugh Laurie, the man in the net is not Russel Brand, and yes - it is Mrs Crocombe, but she’s pretending to be a fisher woman.
I think its real. Could just be a forigner that the locals count identify the language of.
Another Brilliant background song in middle! Who ever is in charge of your music is doing a good job :) may I ask what song was used?
Thanks Ebhelyn, we're glad you liked it. That piece is called Solar Sails by Viljami Mehto.
@@EnglishHeritage thank you
That lady looks absolutely like a cartoon character
1:35 this is mrs. Crocombe when the queen isn’t watching
this kinda reminds me of the short story 'the harbor-master' by robert w chambers
Does anyone know the name of this music?
Wow.
Look up wild man or otherwise known as cave man vs moors.
@TA Outdoors, perhaps you had an ancestor once in Orford?
Wow... poor man. 😭
This is a good way for the storyteller to reveal just how evil the leaders of the day really were. A person in distress would be met with suspicion, no matter how obviously harmless they were. Good thing they didn't accuse him of being a witch. He's lack of English would have condemned him, had this really happened.
Well, there are still a lot of people who attribute mental illness with being demon possessed, so...
Sounds like a seal got caught
What was that thing on his nose?
YES! This question!! I tried seeing if anyone else figured out what it is in the comments. Personally, I think it looks like a baby barnacle... Maybe mer-people don't get pimples, they get barnacles instead? Idk but it's mildly irritating that I don't know the answer.
Why would he want to stay when he encountered nothing but rejection, torture and meanness? What an awfully sad story.
Can we try for stories at bedtime!!! Usually I'm in bed around midnight e.s.t. like 11:55pm I'm crawling back under my blankies and resting up for the impending morning that waits to wake me up
Jason Mamoa gets lost on the way to Atlantis
The constable looked like he could be related mrs crocombe (Kathy)
Sometimes me thinks Brits of yore drank too much laudanum
Mrs. Crocombe is a Time Lord.
WTF did I just watch, I feel like the explanation should have come first. Seems so random, more Mrs. Crocomb please!
Mon6344 that woman looks oddly Familiar.
For this recipe you will need
One wild man
He may have been a mainland foreigner lost at sea, and like many tales do, the story becomes embellished and exaggerated. Maybe he was from Gaul...Astrix and Oblix anyone?😁
Looks a lot like they pulled Jesus's cousin out of the sea!
I can now reveal the truth. The wild man t'was I. I'm a long-lived chap, some say Immortal though I'm unsure. I just haven't died yet. I don't suffer injury nor pain. This episode I remember well. Bored (you can't imagine the boredom of the long-lived!) and desperate I'd stow-away'd on board a carrack bound for I know not where. I fell overboard and was fished up off England. I was not naked nor particularly hairy! I don't know where that came from. I was abused a little by the authorities as I was out of my wits and speechless; they soon came round and I was well treated. A superstitious lot, the locals thought they'd like to see me bathe where they found me; well, I simply swam back to shore. Tarrying a while I regained my humour thence left for pastures new. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. At least Orford got a tale! I've been back since, my how it's changed.
Medieval Crocombe
Holy crap people, yes it’s Mrs. Crocombe...
I’m earlyyyyyy ayeeee
This story is very weird to me, I think that the wild man was probably a monkey that shipwrecked from a merchant ship or a seal!
Dr House became a fisherman?
Is this _The Shape of Water_
OMG What is the Wild Man was another hominid.
I wonder what the origin of this tale is!
and if mrs crocombe cooked for him
Background music is loud overwhelming the narration
Magen Kho It is a bit, but there are also captions in English available to help out.
Woodwose...🤣🤣😂
So mrs crocombe doesnt need glass anymore
Merman, obviously!
We are simple dudes
We see mrs crocombe
Clicks immediately
You DO NOT want to be a hairy non english speaker in the 13th century. Yikes!
i wonder if the wild man might have been a surviving hominid of unknown species like the hobbits of the island of flores or a neanderthal or maybe just a crazy man or a stranded foreigner. I guess without a body or remains we'll never know.
Just a foreign sailor.
I need sub in spanish pleaseee 😢😢😢😢
He was french, thus nobody understood him
Na, they said he didn't speak at all, they would've known if he was french
Wildman has a honking zit on his nose.
Is it me or does the wild man look alot like Ben Chaplin?
Thought that only Asian have legend and folktales but also in Europe also
Every continent has them.
Literally every culture that has ever existed has them....where would you ever get a thought like that
He definitely needs to wax.
I don't know, I would rather hear a more traditional telling of the story. I wonder how much is embellished by modern sensibilities.
The wild man needs dr pimple popper for that monster on his nose😖
It´s probably kind of hard to pop a barnacle. But then did you know that barnacle penises (in some species) stretched up to eight times their body length?
Many times truth is stranger than fiction The story makes more sense than your dumb explanation.
Boring...👎
Like my Dad used to say... 'only boring people get bored... '
I love these stories!
