@@Bollibompa I'm playing everquest classic with a bunch of newcomers like myself, 20somethings sick of most online games and thrilled to be able to experience eq classic. Your comment is just wrong.
I still play on the Project 1999 server. I don't personally know anyone else who plays this game. Maybe they, like me, don't admit it in public. This was a very fun, well edited video. Thanks.
Everquest was the best game i ever played, my first character was a barbarian warrior named gudelorm and i was sooo young like 12 or 13 playing im 31 now lmao. Then i moved to a druid then to a bard.
Everquest ment alot to alot of different players. It's a game only those who experienced it in its prime will truly understand why it's a landmark in gaming. Us that know, understands.
24 years latter and still im dreaming and waiting for everquest 3 maybe one day when im retired it will come out and give me some joy in my golden years till im dust in the wind
I played EverCrack II since 2004 . Never did play the original / sigh ' But DnD since the 80's occasionally . Then Baldurs Gate in the 90's was A woW .
One of those Blizz devs was leader of the top guild on Ayonae Ro... Eternal Wrath. They helped get my druid his epic back in the day, good group of extremely hardcore raiders.
MMOs were going to happen regardless of EQ. Having an RPG where you interact with other people was an obvious step in the genre's growth. And just because you don't play them does not mean that nobody does.
it's probably best that eqnext got cancelled, honestly. it looked like it was straying WAY too far from what everquest actually was/is. Daybreak games would have ran it into the ground with conflicting free-to-play models and mismanagement. they just don't have the same backing as SoE did back in the day.
Returning to EQ after an 18 year hiatus, I'm slowly making my way through a lot of the history and commentary that I missed, and was very happy to stumble across this. Watching the interview with Brad McQuaid was certainly bittersweet (he definitely changed the world for the better). The Everquest Next teasers were more painful than anything. One thing that I found genuinely surprising (shocking?), though, was the interview with the three (then very young) Blizzard developers: Jeff Kaplan (future Blizzard VP), Rob Pardo (future Blizzard Chief Creative Officer) and... Alex Afrasiabi (future World of Warcraft Senior Creative Director and, if the universe is just, hopeful future inmate at San Quentin). Wow.
Whewh.... this documentary is a little hard to watch. It's so ADHD with its jarring transitions, random footage that doesn't seem to make any sense, conversations that seem to get interrupted right in the middle to transition to another completely nonsensical scene, and yet, somehow, it still manages to tell a pretty good story, despite all that. It's cool to see the real people involved (RIP Brad) and hear their sides of it. I'm currently playing EverQuest on the Yelinak TLP server and just loving it. This is my #1 game of all time, but I know almost nobody IRL that has even heard of it, but I have many friends in game. What an amazing creation.
Can anyone tell me approximately, how many lines of code Everquest has in it at this point ?, If so can they tell me how close in comparison to World of Warcraft it is in lines of code?
I played eqoa on the Playstation 2 I know it was not as good as the pc game even so the game was my all time favorite game nothing has come close to it so far.
Fuck EverQuest Next. It had nothing to do with EverQuest. That Disney Land Lion King Beauty and the Beast shit was horrible. The whole idea of it was shit; Destructible environment and flashy fluffy crap that doesn't matter and no body wants. Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen is going to be the true successor of EverQuest.
I played this game in middle school because my dad was dying. I'm pretty sure I got two guidebooks and I still had almost zero idea how to play. I was the purest of noobs... and I was amazed by this world of Norrath I could live in instead of coping with the real one... I remember asking a girl at school if she played it, like durr, why wouldn't everyone be playing it? I just had no perspective, no framework to understand reality in the way non-autistic kids did. If I remember right she said she did play, but we never met up in game, because I think she was lying. I don't know why she lied, but I don't mind. Anyway EQOA set the tone for the rest of my life and that's not really a good or a bad thing, it's just how it is. I ended up writing a lot and trying to create my own world in high school, at least 60 people from other forums ended up writing with me. It was an experience. I was a weird kid though, always have been. I just was happy to have all of these fantasy creatures and ideas around me instead of the grim reality that outside my house there was rampant crime and homelessness, and fast cars, and maybe even cannibals, clown monsters-... how was I supposed to know what was real? It was better to accept fantasy as a replacement to the best of my ability. At least that's how I felt. And maybe I was right. Who knows? But Everquest was there for me. It gave me that option...
Btw I like the editor for this video, it's not bland, it's not a dry report, it's from the point of view of a gamer trying to add some humor. Some players (people) have lost their fucking souls - ignore them. You did good
josue marquez meaning it's not very well polished. Maybe it's not fair comparing it to WoW. Blizzard are well known for how polished their games are, but giving the fact that EQ literally, "did it first". I expect a certain degree of polish. I love EQ but couldn't stand the constant clipping, falling through surfaces, discolorations, ect. None of the current MMOs have such poor polish nowadays. WoW really set the bar to new heights.
So 2 things... 1) Dude said they made something special with Everquest II.... No sir, you did not. You made a steaming pile of bullshit compared to EQ1. 2) When is "Pantheon:Rise Of The Fallen" going to come out? It seems like its my only hope of ever recapturing the EQ1 experience because every company on the planet wants to make shit you can solo all the way through, buy set of bogus gear that look like youve been raiding for the last 17 years of your life even though your level 7, and end game raiding is an after thought capped at 25 people per raid. I miss EQ1... Its just too antiquated to play anymore imho.

It's almost impossible to explain how awesome the original EQ was to the newer generation of MMO players.
Some of us can totally appreciate it and definitely see ourselves having delved into it at the time for sure.
It was awesome to you then. It's not awesome to anyone that didn't play it then. That's why it's so hard to explain.
