- Jacob Trouba, as a Penguins fan is a guy I'm supposed to hate. And when they play each other I do! But boy do I respect him. He is literally a freaking tree on skates and yesterday, as we saw the clashing of two old rivals with the New York Rangers vs Philadelphia Flyers in Philly, it played out like you’d expect, just good hard hockey led by Trouba. Hathaway and Deslauriers tried to get him to drop the gloves, he hilariously didn't even acknowledge them before absolutely laying out Hathaway in the process. Some fights, plenty of big hits meant this was a fun, old time hockey game. I cover it all in todays NHL video!

i like to imagine that all the way up the ice, deslauries talking shit, trouba ignores him, but right before the hit, he just says 'watch this.' probably not, but a man can dream. great hit though, as usual, trouba is a beast when it comes to hitting, and can rally the team behind his train

I heard a hilarious take on this where the broadcaster recapping said that Hathaway will lay himself on the line and sacrifice his body to make a good hit.

I love Trouba. Miss him in Winnipeg but I don’t blame him for leaving.
I think he left the Jets for two reasons - he wanted to play the same side as Big Buff and Morrisey but didn't want to be relegated to the third line and his wife desperately wanted to move to New York.
The locker room was horrible then also I’m a a Manitoban jets fan but Winnipeg ain’t a great city

The league has had it out for the rangers ever since the Tom Wilson incident. Believe me if trouba were actually dirty he would’ve gotten punished. Today was the first bad thing he’s done since he’s joined the rangers. And even bruins fans didn’t notice what happened until hours after the game and someone who had the benefit of slowing the game down to the pixels had a chance to microanalyze

@@cb84capri idk about that, the golden age of hockey fights are over no doubt but the game has evolved, fightings not needed as much, we still get great fights, and i've never really seen anyone purposely hit the bucket, usually they go for the chin

Obliging with a fight can turn the momentum against you. Coaches will often get mad at players for dropping the mitts when youre ahead early in the game.

Trouba is one of the toughest guys in the league that isn't just a fighter. He drops the gloves to defend himself every time he throws an unpenalized hit, which he shouldn't even have to do. In this situation, his team is manhandling the Flyers, up 2-0 five minutes into the game. Why the hell would he fight someone and force his team to play without one of their top defensemen for 5 minutes? It's called in-game situational awareness.
I would say Trouba is more know for making impacts to dudes skulls more than making an impact on the ice. 😅

Nah, Trouba is highly underrated for his defensive game.
This guy makes a gazillion great defensive plays, and blocks a shots by the dozens.
Trouba also does quite well in his offensive game, from time to time.
Watch that pass he made to Kreider, today. Just one example.

Trouba isn't skating away from Delaurier because he doesn't want to give him the time of day; it's because he is scared. He only picks on guys smaller than him. I've seen a couple games against the Sens where Brady Tkachuk was willing to engage physically but Trouba shrunk like a little B. Nothing more satisfying than Matt Martin's hit on him during the bubble. That "tree" was real wobbly. But is he going to go back at MM? No chance because he knows he'll get thumped.
Great example, since Trouba did fight B. Tkachuk, at center ice no less, just last season. Again, after blowing someone up with a hit that drew no penalty. Trouba has 23 fights to his credit in the NHL, but he's scared of a guy 2 inches and 10 lbs lighter than him? You must have good weed. Maybe if Deslauriers had a regular shift he could just try to throw a hit, like Trouba does. Instead, he stuck him, grabbed him and even attempted to slewfoot him into taking a selfish penalty that would hurt his team. Rather than be goaded, he simply blew up yet another opponent - even while Delauriers yapped at him and looked stupid. That's the kind of Captain the Flyers could use!!
In the same shift he put Martin on his ass he hit his head on the glass it happens to all players sometimes no coach in the league would want Trouba in the box for 5 in a trade for 5 with a scrub like martin who can barely play and is lucky if he gets 5 in the entire game.

That is just silly of course he is not as good as Stevens who is in the top 5 greatest d-man ever to play the game but Trouba is stilla very good player who will win a cup if his TEAM is good enough. Stevens won 3 cups because he was on great teams and when Trouba is on a good enough team he will win a cup as well this may be the year actually we will see.
