    Nice to see you visiting in the fall, my favorite time here. I keep telling people it's the best time to come...
    I chose to live in Seward a number of years ago, and I'm still in love with it! You gotta love nature or go crazy here though...

    •  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Maria! Glad to see a comment from a local. You are lucky to have settled in Seward, it's a great place to live, pretty unique for the States.

      Fall over Summer for hiking, camping and kayaking Maria? Iant there lots of rain in september? Or you mean Oct?

    • @mariaveter88
      @mariaveter88 3 роки тому +1

      @@positronikissI mean September and most of October, when most things close down.
      it is always hit or miss with the weather here, any month (spring is the sunniest, probably). The seas do get rough in the fall, but we don't seem to have more rainy days per se... Plus, there's a pocket of warm, sunny and extremely quiet (which are rare) days almost every year at September-October border, when the water is glass and the vegetation splits into many colors instead of one...

      Morgan, Hate to tell you but Canada screwed us over again! They aren’t allowing cruise ships through there coast, and all major cruise ships bound for Alaska have to pass through Canada waters, no cruise ships in Seward again! It’s killing all small coastal Alaska towns that rely on tourists. I would try next year, some advice, start applying right after December, companies want there summer crews set as early as possible, rather then waiting until spring. By the way, I live in Seward, been in tourism up here many years. Just trying to give you a heads up.😉👍

    •  3 роки тому

      @@troyottosen8722 Hey Troy, so glad to see a comment from a Seward local! Correct me if I'm wrong, but smaller cruise vessels under the American flag are exempt from making a stop in Canadian ports and will be sailing to Alaska this year? Of course those vessels are much smaller (about 100 passengers or less) but anyway it gives an opportunity to explore Alaskan southern shore. Not sure about the prices though, which may be a different challenge.

    • @troyottosen8722
      @troyottosen8722 3 роки тому +1

      @ , How ironic you mentioned this! You are correct, but the smaller ships like you said, approx 100 pax or less won’t go all the way to Seward not only because of distance, but the main reason is once you leave the northernmost part of southeast inside passage at Sitka, you have nothing but open ocean crossing, and no ports to hide at or even sheltered bays until prince William sound!😉. Small world, I worked on a 145 ft max 32 passenger small cruise ship all over southeast AK on 9 day cruises, I was our naturalist, what an awesome time! Seward is obviously slow now, nice and relaxing though, not that cold, sure beautiful on a clear day with the fresh snow on the mountains though!😉👍

    Your videos are stunning. Do you have a post describing what you use? We live in Juneau now and are dying to find a great camera to film like this!

    •  4 роки тому +1

      So glad you liked the videos! I saw Juneau only briefly but was so impressed with all its beauty! I don't have an active blog to describe the equipment, in 2021 to shoot videos like this I would perhaps think of a Sony camera (e.g. A7 III) with a longer zoom lens ( 24-240 mm ). Sony RX10 is also great and is more budget conscious, as are any bridge cameras like Nikon P1000 or Panasonic FZ1000 (seen this one used for about $400). It's really how much you're ready to put in your equipment, sky is the limit. Another thing you need no matter what is a steady tripod.
      When you start filming, please let me know if you don't forget by then, would love to check it out! Cheers.

      @alaskanadventures5865 4 роки тому +1

      @ thank you so much for the reply! That was very thoughtful of you. The minute I took photos here with my Samsung phone I realized I was going to need a nice camera and a decent drone to capture any of the beauty here. I'm hoping a Mavic Air 2 will do me well and then to find a decent dslr between $600-900. I would love to put out some videos half as beautiful as yours for our families back home to watch!

    •  4 роки тому +1

      @@alaskanadventures5865 Thank you again! If video is your primary goal, I'd look at mirrorless instead of dslr. Most modern mirrorless cameras give you in-built stabilization when shooting videos, meaning you'll have much less shakes when shooting handheld. And a lot of them are weather sealed - so you're never worrying about an odd raindrop getting on the camera and ruining it. I learned that the 'no worry' aspect is one of the most important: when you're at ease, relaxed, you let yourself be you, you see more things and take better pictures. So find something that is easy to carry, can survive moisture and not taking much of your adventure budget and you'll be good to go!

    Hello, new to your channel and great video!
    I do have one question. How much is the Cost of Living there in apartments and would it be cost efficient to bring a car from the lower 48 or purchase one there? I got hired to work in Seward, Alaska and I need as much help as I can get to make a transition. Thank you!

    •  3 роки тому

      Hi Frank Zappa! I can't really comment on the cost of living -- apart that it is very obviously higher than in the lower 48 after speaking with the locals. As for the car, you can ship it via the ferry -- Alaska Marine Highway -- from Seattle, but sailing to Seward from the mainland is pretty expensive and (depending where you live) you'll need to get to the North West first. Another option is to drive to Seward in your car, this way you don't have to jump in the car market in Alaska and deal with the rentals in a meantime. But that's only if you have like a week to get there one way, or longer if you're further away from the Pacific Northwest. Interesting problems to solve! Take care.
