CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Ed Rooney (Jeffrey Jones) and Grace (Edie McClurg) discuss Ferris and his popularity.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Teenaged Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) is a legend in his own time thanks to his uncanny skill at cutting classes and getting away with it. Intending to make one last grand duck-out before graduation, Ferris calls in sick, "borrows" a Ferrari, and embarks on a one-day bacchanal through the streets of Chicago. Dogging Ferris' trail at every turn is high-school principal Rooney (Jeffrey Jones), determined to catch Bueller in the act of class-cutting. Writer/director John Hughes once again tries to wed satire, slapstick, and social commentary, as Ferris Bueller's Day Off starts like a house afire and goes on to make "serious" points about status-seeking and casual parental cruelties. It brightens up considerably in the last few moments, when Ferris' tattletale sister (Jennifer Grey) decides to align herself with her merry prankster sibling. A huge moneymaker, Ferris Bueller's Day Off eventually spawned a TV sitcom.

I love that secretary with her Midwestern whine. Cracks me up when she says "righteous dood".
That's actress Edie McClurg
Jeff Morse Edie McClurg adlibbed that "righteous dude" using the Chicago accent. John Hughes laughed and she got the part. It was his idea for the pencils in her hair.
Thats Cathy Mitchell before she became an infomercial chef
lol she is great
Yeah she was in the original movie carrie!
00:47 When Grace says "He's a righteous dude", it was not in the original script. Edie McClurg ad-libbed it in her best Chicago accent.
No way
Sounded more Minnesota than Illinois but she is a fantastic character actor...as is Jeffrey Jones (Principal Ed Rooney)...the "Dirty Harry" look at 1:08 is priceless.
Brilliant
Sounds way more Canadian
Thanks! I love trivia facts like that
Edie McClurg is a gem! Steals every scene she's in.
John Hughes knew she was talented and made sure she was in a lot of movies.
Edie McClurg will Just Say Moe from the three stooges
This “Carrie” Planes,Trains, and Automobiles, And Elvira Mistress Of The Dark
They Don’t Know What To Do You Can Not
I laughed every time she says "with you bad knee, you shouldn't be throwing anyone" best timing
It's true! :)
❤️🌌🗺️🌎🌍🌏
O IK not ta mention his reaction afterwards (LMFAO) & I’ve always wondered how does he keep a straight face
Ahh
That actress had that role on lock. Memorable.
Edie McClurg....you are so right and she was Grace Sweetwater in "Back to School"
@@letter1967 She was also Helen Shyres in Brian DePalma's 'Carrie' (1976).
@@nopcshere6097 That's right!!! I forgot about that....
@@nopcshere6097 I wish for A Edie McClurg Mom with Redhair for School and work and home taking care of me
"Well, he's very popular, Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wasteoids, dweebies, dickheads. They all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude."
*righteous dood
Ashtray Delicacy You're still here?
@@matthewmulholland1797 “Oh, Ed, you sounded like Dirty Harry just now!”
I love when after she says dickheads she has that sweet, innocent smile. Funny.
Her smile is just so cheeky, it just makes me chuckle so much 😆
Ferris Bueller is cool with the Bloods lol
Crips got left out, I guess they got beef.
RYNO LASCAVIO hahahahaha
RYNO LASCAVIO hahahahahahahaha
Would make 69 feel totally deflated...
I wonder if he’s cool with the BD’s he does live in Chicago
These two had amazing comedic chemistry
Very very true!
*"Thank you, Grace. I think you're wrong."*
Underrated line.
This film is a masterpiece. And John Hughes should be considered as a master director.
I don't have a particular favorite of his movies
I’ve always loved the breakfast club the most for the script and all but Ferris Bueller’s Day Off has the richest spirit and clever writing like how Ferris is always so close to being seen by Rooney or his dad, it’s so funny
It's always a pleasure to see Edie McClurg in movies.
"Well with your bad knee Ed you shouldn't throw anybody"
😒
It's true.
Oh Jesus it still makes me laugh 40 years later.😂 When he looks at her and asks, “Really?” God I miss the 80s. So glad to have lived through them. What a perfect time to have been an adolescent.
💯
She was fantastic in this and she was outstanding as the rental car agent in planes trains and automobiles
Grace: They think he's a righteous dude.
Rooney: (eyeroll)
That part was actually ad-libbed.
The secretary is the most adorable woman in any movie
Like Etta in Wonder Woman
Hard to believe that Edie McClurg, who played Grace, was also bully Helen Shyres in the Brian De Palma version of 'Carrie' (1976).
@@nopcshere6097 wow I didn’t know that!
Her cheery Midwestern accent just makes it funnier! I love Edie McClurg.
Every school had that one kid who no one had beef with.
Grace is an icon. 😂👏🙌❤️
I like how she said "you sounded like dirty harry just then!"
Steven Thommes
Gives you the impression she might have a thing for Ed. Ironically they did just that in the television series.
+Rooster Montgomery we don't talk about that
James Ritchie
I was prepared to not like the show but I wasn't prepared to like it.
It's the car-rental lady of trains, planes and automobiles. lol, "you're fucked!"
...Oh shit!
These two were the highlight of the movie.
Them and Cameron. Cameron is hilarious
That Dirty Harry comment just made him fall in love with himself all the more
Hard to believe GRACE was in the original movie "carrie" back in 1976 as one of the snooty cheerleaders.
Really? I never knew that!
She was definitely NOT a righteous dude... 😔
Just read about Edie. I hope for justice and for her to live her life in peace. She is a righteous actor who deserves tranquility
Edie McClurg is a national treasure
And a Three Stooges fan
I’ve loved this lady since I was a boy..reminds me of a Midwest mother 😎😳🎥
His face after she says rightsous is literally me whenever idiots are talking.
0:46 they think he's a righteous dude the way she says dude kills me
Edie McClurg ... in every film, a wondrous delight! This one line is beyond classic. :) One of my fav films.
Same lady plays the car rental clerk in Planes, Trains and Automobiles!
Most of the principals that I had in school were less competent than rooney
Did you know the secretary was one of the mean girls from Carrie?
Edie McClurg ad libbed the "righteous dude" line and John Hughes laughed so they decided to keep it, cause the original line ended with "they all adore him".
thank you grace i think you're wrong
every line is perfect.
Grace is hilarious 😂
Edie McClurg has sure come a long way over the years. To think her first movie was Carrie when she got about two speaking lines!
Did she say the bloods as one of the groups 😂
Cameron did wear red the whole movie hahaha
I as born in 05 and it’s a really good movie
Herb Tarlek's wife, always a riot.
Should've gone a few seconds longer to Rooney trying to make a Dirty Harry face, then thanking Grace for her flattery.
"Dey tink he's a righteous dood :3"
Ed would be better off letting Ferris coast through the rest of the year just so he can be rid of him. Then he'll only have to deal with three more years of "Ferris Bueller disciples." Holding him back another year would keep his influence prevalent unless everyone turns on him but at least he'd still have Sloane around. Over analysis but who cares?
+Rooster Montgomery Not to mention it's his looney attempts to bring Ferris down is what lead to his demise.
Why would he have 3 years of Ferris disciples? Ferris wouldn't have influence after leaving school.
Why would Sloane still be around? Is she in the year below Ferris?
Andrew Smith yes she was in the year below him.
This is how most school staff members thought and still do. Makes you wonder why school shootings are so common... Yeah I went there
@@doctorfeinstone6524yeah true lol
Lol love this secretary she is such a troll. With your bad knee Ed you shouldn’t be throwing anyone.
*blink blink blink*
So funny, one of the best films of all time.
“the dickheads” lmao
There's a lot of those on the Internet now.
in high school, we were ALL sportos, motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wasteoids, dweebies, or dickheads at one time or another ;)
You can tell she gangsta
I just can't stop watching this film!
GOD BLESS EDIE
The rolling of his eyes and condescension to invalidate her followed by his really? Lol..the best
The best moment is when Ed closes his eyes in utter defeat when Grace calls Ferris a 'righteous dude'. Ultimate boomer moment!
I was just rewatching this movie on Netflix last night. The first time i watched it was eight years ago just before my high school graduation. Ferris Bueller's Day Off makes a scenario i would not do if it was the last way to have fun on Earth so mellow. I thought i was not going to like it at first. Because i was too cautious to fake an illness to cut school.
I was at that age in high school when this movie came out. Me and all my friends wanted to be Ferris Bueller
My old school bus driver will dress as Edie McClurg
Righteous dude lol
This is such an awesome scene.
He's a righteous doooode!
Thank you Grace. I think you're wrong. HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Uh hu-ah! Thinking of Dirty Harry made her knees all wobbly. That crack in her voice kills me every time.
Edie McClurg at the Chicago Cubs game throwing the opening pitch
0:50 hahahaha
He's a righteous dude :-)
I Love You Edie
Jones is simply awesome in every role he does...
She made Keith Gordon crack up on camera in "Back to School" with that sweet little lady voice of hers
Thank you, Grace. I think you're wrong.
Ferris is a Blood! It all makes sense now!
My Little Edie McClurg Squeezebox from high school
Edie McClurg was my favorite
edie mclurg is awesome just a great, great character actor......in planes, trains and automobiles too
Mr. Rooney is gonna wish he'd just stayed in the office and counted his pencils. My last month of my senior year, I ditched school five times to see Cubs games and go to a concert at McCormick place. I had a great month!
this movie holds up after all these years.
Just plain surprises me after almost 35 years
Thank you Grace, I think you're wrong.
Two absolutely wonderful actors!! 😍😍
My Little Edie McClurg Squeeze box
Well with your bad knee Ed you shouldn’t throw anybody 🤣🤣
Damn, Edie McClurg (born 1951) was only 34-35, people in their 30s looked hella older in the 80s
People smoking indoors all the damn time can do that to you.
She is dressed up to be a frumpy high-school seceratary, to be fair to her
@@zetetick395 True it fits her character but still, it's bizarre how 30s ppl were "part of the older generation" and fit with 50-60 year olds back then.
Nowadays 30s people are like just more advanced 21 year olds. I barely feel any older than "college kids"
She's playing a character
You only need to see Cameron Diaz in Monster to see how much difference movie costume and make-up can make
"Oh Ed! You sounded like Dirty Harry just then!"
"Really?"
😒
"Thanks Grace"
Gnaaaaaaw she's so cuttte!!!!!
GRACE!!!!!!GRACE!!!!GRACE!!!!!!
Does anybody besides me refer to Matthew Broderick as, "Ferris Bueller," even though we know his real name?
+Fersomling because this is what he is famous for.
Sometimes, I refer to him as Simba or Ferris Bueller lol
Fun fact: Eddie McClurg had a small role in the original 76 Carrie. She 's the one who grunts whilst doing sit ups.
My old school bus driver likes to call Edie
i died at 0:05 and still do every time XD
Anyone else ever notice the faint typing noise in the background? :)
This is too damn stupid funny
Spider Man = Ferris Bueller
Jameson = Rooney
GRACE!!! = Betty Brant
Punched his own "ticket to nowhere."
Ed Rooney (as Dirty Harry) Go ahead (click of the pen) make my day.
SO good.
Every actor killed it in this movie, but, Jeffrey Jones MADE it a classic. "Really"? Classic!
Oh Ed you sounded like dirty Harry Ed - really,?? Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is what the 1990 television show was missing when it came to these two characters. Rooney was more comedic and Grace lost all that dry wit only McClurg could bring.
why does this clip cut off before Rooney says "....thanks Grace"?!?! That's the best part!
Thank you Grace, I think you’re wrong 😂
Damn it you ended it 2 seconds too soon!
Grace: Ed, you sounded like Dirty Harry right there! 😲
Ed: I did? Oh my god, Grace! 😨
As an adult,
I find myself understanding why he hates Ferris so much.
Superb 😜
