It'd be much harder, because thousands of books can be stored on a single hard drive/flash drive, uploaded, etc., but the internet itself could be (and is) banned in certain areas, and even worldwide if authoritarianism takes over most or all major countries. You'd have groups of resistance techies trying to keep a free (very limited) internet going (as they are in certain areas now), with free media (news, videos, books, etc), but authoritarian regimes would be stamping out those sites as they popped up (as they do now). Also, news would come from underground outfits as all major media outlets would be banned/shut down. The widespread free sharing, much less very existence, of information is not inevitable. For millennia the average person couldn't read, or couldn't read the language the printed word mostly was produced in. Only the educated/wealthy elites had access to important knowledge. There is no reason that technology can conquer the tendency of humankind to repress information. It makes it more difficult (the printing press made the widespread availability, and affordability, of the written word much more accessible to the average person for instance), but hardly impossible. Don't assume anything is inevitable.

It’s a very dark book but an important one. Books are at their best and most useful when they challenge our ways of thinking and force us to feel.
It's funny that she said the job of a teacher is to teach children to think critically and that it doesn't take away from parents' power. The root of the entire issue is that certain parents oppose critical thinking. They want their children to only believe what their religious book says is true.
I saw another video that parents are going after the mental health counselors as well. GEE, I WONDER WHY, wouldn't want your kid to rat you out as the cause of their depression and anxiety or violent mindset!!!
I think it's not even the book, it's what the clergy is telling them. You can read the bible to justify literally anything; there are so many contradictory passages that things such as slavery have been both defended and opposed by religious groups, based on the same book. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if most Christians in the US don't even read the bible, they just listen to what leaders tell them.
THE MAGA MANIFESTO - In his 1995 essay "Ur-Fascism", cultural theorist Umberto Eco lists fourteen general properties of fascist ideology. He uses the term "Ur-fascism" as a generic description of different historical forms of fascism. The fourteen properties are as follows: "The Cult of Tradition", characterized by cultural syncretism, even at the risk of internal contradiction. When all truth has already been revealed by Tradition, no new learning can occur, only further interpretation and refinement. "The Rejection of modernism", which views the rationalistic development of Western culture since the Enlightenment as a descent into depravity. Eco distinguishes this from a rejection of superficial technological advancement, as many fascist regimes cite their industrial potency as proof of the vitality of their system. "The Cult of Action for Action's Sake", which dictates that action is of value in itself, and should be taken without intellectual reflection. This, says Eco, is connected with anti-intellectualism and irrationalism, and often manifests in attacks on modern culture and science. "Disagreement Is Treason" - Fascism devalues intellectual discourse and critical reasoning as barriers to action, as well as out of fear that such analysis will expose the contradictions embodied in a syncretistic faith. "Fear of Difference", which fascism seeks to exploit and exacerbate, often in the form of racism or an appeal against foreigners and immigrants. "Appeal to a Frustrated Middle Class", fearing economic pressure from the demands and aspirations of lower social groups. "Obsession with a Plot" and the hyping-up of an enemy threat. This often combines an appeal to xenophobia with a fear of disloyalty and sabotage from marginalized groups living within the society (such as the German elite's 'fear' of the 1930s Jewish populace's businesses and well-doings; see also antisemitism). Eco also cites Pat Robertson's book The New World Order as a prominent example of a plot obsession. Fascist societies rhetorically cast their enemies as "at the same time too strong and too weak." On the one hand, fascists play up the power of certain disfavored elites to encourage in their followers a sense of grievance and humiliation. On the other hand, fascist leaders point to the decadence of those elites as proof of their ultimate feebleness in the face of an overwhelming popular will. "Pacifism is Trafficking with the Enemy" because "Life is Permanent Warfare" - there must always be an enemy to fight. Both fascist Germany under Hitler and Italy under Mussolini worked first to organize and clean up their respective countries and then build the war machines that they later intended to and did use, despite Germany being under restrictions of the Versailles treaty to not build a military force. This principle leads to a fundamental contradiction within fascism: the incompatibility of ultimate triumph with perpetual war. "Contempt for the Weak", which is uncomfortably married to a chauvinistic popular elitism, in which every member of society is superior to outsiders by virtue of belonging to the in-group. Eco sees in these attitudes the root of a deep tension in the fundamentally hierarchical structure of fascist polities, as they encourage leaders to despise their underlings, up to the ultimate Leader who holds the whole country in contempt for having allowed him to overtake it by force. "Everybody is Educated to Become a Hero", which leads to the embrace of a cult of death. As Eco observes, "[t]he Ur-Fascist hero is impatient to die. In his impatience, he more frequently sends other people to death." "Machismo", which sublimates the difficult work of permanent war and heroism into the sexual sphere. Fascists thus hold "both disdain for women and intolerance and condemnation of nonstandard sexual habits, from chastity to homosexuality." "Selective Populism" - The People, conceived monolithically, have a Common Will, distinct from and superior to the viewpoint of any individual. As no mass of people can ever be truly unanimous, the Leader holds himself out as the interpreter of the popular will (though truly he dictates it). Fascists use this concept to delegitimize democratic institutions they accuse of "no longer represent[ing] the Voice of the People." "Newspeak" - Fascism employs and promotes an impoverished vocabulary in order to limit critical reasoning. THE REPUBLICAN PARTY NOW MEETS ALL THE REQUIREMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED TRUE FASCISTS....It seems The American Reich is rising.

I’ve worked in the classroom, and you literally cannot run a school without SEL. It stands for social emotional learning, and it is about teaching kids things like crying doesn’t get you what you want and solve problems with words not fists. It’s always been a part of schooling, but now it involves a lot fewer beatings.
I hope schools also teach that crying when you’re sad is normal and ok - and if the crying child needs something to reassure or comfort them, I hope teachers provide it. Your version of SEL sounds like “Don’t express your emotions”
@@mariag.8242 I was giving an incredibly abbreviated explanation of what it is. I personally teach kids that crying is natural, and I explain to them that tears contain some of the chemicals that make you feel sad, so crying physically gets rid of sadness. It’s just part of the way our bodies work. There’s no shame in performing a natural function of your body. My favorite SEL thing to explain is that when two kids get in a fight, the last kid to do something like say an insult or throw a punch is the one who gets in trouble, and whoever gets in trouble loses the fight. So if someone starts a fight with them the best way to win that fight is to come come to a teacher so that the one who started it gets in trouble and loses, not them. Another common lesson that I’ve had to teach younger kids is the importance of not lying. You would be surprised at how many kids were never told the story of the boy who cried wolf.

THE MAGA MANIFESTO - In his 1995 essay "Ur-Fascism", cultural theorist Umberto Eco lists fourteen general properties of fascist ideology. He uses the term "Ur-fascism" as a generic description of different historical forms of fascism. The fourteen properties are as follows:
"The Cult of Tradition", characterized by cultural syncretism, even at the risk of internal contradiction.
In his impatience, he more frequently sends other people to death."
"Machismo", which sublimates the difficult work of permanent war and heroism into the sexual sphere. Fascists thus hold "both disdain for women and intolerance and condemnation of nonstandard sexual habits, from chastity to homosexuality."
"Selective Populism" - The People, conceived monolithically, have a Common Will, distinct from and superior to the viewpoint of any individual. As no mass of people can ever be truly unanimous, the Leader holds himself out as the interpreter of the popular will (though truly he dictates it). Fascists use this concept to delegitimize democratic institutions they accuse of "no longer represent[ing] the Voice of the People."
"Newspeak" - Fascism employs and promotes an impoverished vocabulary in order to limit critical reasoning.

Where are the parents with a scintilla of intelligence speaking up against these crazies?
They’re probably quiet because they don’t want to hire 24 hour security because all these lunatics are armed.
Or more like they dot have the time or have kids.

It's so embarrassing to be an American 😔
Yes, yes it is.
Na, only be embarrassed if you're a white Republikkkan.
It's The New Nazi Republikkkan Party that is making America look bad

I left the US in 2016 and am in the process of renouncing my citizenship. I feel like one of the Germans who left their country in the 1930s.
If the problem is with the library apps, you don't burn the books, silly, you need burn the laptops🔥🔥👍

"Some of the things you'd come across is shocking". You mean, like the Bible?
Yeah, there's a lot stuff in there... The OT has murder, twisted truth, child sacrifice (nearly), dreadful manners, betrayal, oppression, and fire coming down from the sky. It also documents in detail battles, miracles (parting of the Red/Reed sea can be explained by studying tectonics and vulcanism, but I don't think Moses studied geo-physics et. al. But it also has instances of great courage, faith, wisdom, personal responsibility, regret... and lions. :D

What next Witch trials.
Those are already going on. And look no further to these posts to see calls for political prosecutions.

Death squads is my guess.
They're already calling for firing squads and gas chambers, which the Nazis and Italian Fascists were notorious for.
Don’t give them any ideas…
I don't know where you grew up but I grew up in America and have experienced racism my entire life even while employed by the federal government
Well, that puts "Catcher in the Rye" in danger. Isn't this also religion forcing itself upon the US
Yes, but Christian Fascist are fine with it.
They think freedom of religion is freedom to pick what branch of Christianity you want. And if they go with that logic than the US is a Christian country. And even then its got to be a protestant one.
It is all about religion.
Not real Christianity I might add. That would mean following the teachings of Jesus, and I don't recall Jesus hating anyone.
This is about warping Christianity into a religion that supports your own hatreds, biggottry, and racism and then forcing it on others.
The America most Americans believe in is in danger of being lost forever!

What poor little babies are out there acting scarred by library books? None. The answer is none. It’s over-parenting for the sake of the parents’ pious political views.

You right, It's going too backfire.
All these right wing parents are going to make getting into college a lot easier for everyone who got a real education. Colleges are not going to want anything to do with these kids who had his halfway educations from a backwater state. Thanks conservatives!!
Ty for the one silver lining!
I think they're going to have the country torn up long before then.
My red state has ban teaching anything related to CRT and other social issues in colleges and universities.
Lmao good point I never considered that
I don't think the colleges and universities are set up to filter out these idiots.
Thank you for bringing this scary Totalitarian moment to light. This monster is growing with the help of the Republican Party.
