@@trevorcook3129 I like old comments. There is no right or left just right and wrong. It seems to be that right and left in America is just another brainwashing tactic used to make you pick a side instead of hating both sides. Thats one of the reasons why the people fighting for same things as you are seem batshit insane to you. Its because both sides are wrong in many different ways. Its not about being left or right or picking a side its about being correct and trying to understand the problems and fixing it. Instead if you pick a side you are accepting the problems and letting them continue. The problems being pretty obvious to the poor or sick of this world and not the powerful and rich. I hope that isn't just gibberish sounding but i think just saying the words right or left is accepting that exact behaviour.
Roddy Rod read his books, they are great too. Literally him in written form. I would actually argue that he speaks like a book so him in a book sounds more natural than his physical, speaking self

Speaking shamelessly and cultivating the vocabulary to express what ever you think is worth expressing is as Noble a pursuit as any other.

This video was FANTASTIC! We had the "Wow, you have good questions!" from Russel, I love it when that happens. The guest asking the host insightful questions, at one point almost switching roles. But the absolute topper was Russel Brand singing a song, on key, improvised as he sang! Not to mention Russel's brand of spiritual awakening.
Russell Brands rant about truth, how everybody has their own truth, and that we need to be understanding of others truths and not damn or condemn them was the truest/realest/deepest thing to be said on this show. Hands down.
To be honest, although articulately explained I don’t agree with him that the truth is subjective- there is only the truth which is fact, your truth is your opinion- not the same thing in my opinion
@@brabbit3389 Truth is subjective. It is influenced by personal feelings or opinions. What I believe to be the truth may not be what you believe. Facts are not subjective, by definition anyway. If something happened, it happened. That's a fact. Nothing can change that. Now, how I interpret that fact is my truth. How I feel about the fact is going to affect my truth. Basically, facts and truths are not the same thing.
I hated Russel Brand until this episode. I couldn't see his relevance and how he achieved fame. I figured he was a periphery famous person whose crazy ass antics made him famous, and who had about the same amount of actual talent as Kim Kardashian does. I now see this man is quite brilliant. Go Russel Brand. New fan here sir.
Kim Kardashian type celebrity though? That's a bit low lol. Nah, he achieved his initial celebrity through stand-up comedy, tv and radio in the UK. He'd been doing all of that for about 8 years before Americans, including that first wife of his, knew who he was. He accrued quite a bit of scandal but he's never been a "famous for being famous/do nothing" type.
chantoya17 I understand. That was my perception though. It has since changed starting with this Hot Ones episode. I have since viewed many of his interviews with media, and I can now see how his no-nonsense super-fluid intellect has been viewed as controversial at times. He seems to be ultra intelligent and well grounded, as well as being well aware of the whole farce of mass media pre-mastication of important people and subjects for ocular digestion by the general public.
He is a brilliant guy, you might like his podcast, Under The Skin with Russell Brand. He brings scientists and academics on and gets to ask them questions he may have had while reading their books and whatnot. It's actually entertaining while being informative.

"Even in a confined social system such as this room" A sentence so useless it baffles examination. "there are numerous truths" Sure. "numerous realities" Nope. A phrase akin to adding ketchup to steak. "our jobs as human beings is to by sympathetic and empathetic and bridge-building with other people’s truths" See: we have to accept each other. Or: how I aim to be pretentious with every fiber of my being. "not damming, condemning, and maliciously and deliberately confused" That's not even a sentence. God this guy needs more drugs. Maybe then he'll be more palatable. "So truth is more important than it’s ever been..." As opposed to??
Knowing little of Russell Brand, he is more intelligent, both in terms of critical thinking and also emotional intelligence, than I would have guessed. That's one of the cool things about this show--you find out more about a person than originally intended or sought.

Russell Brand is not a robot and actually thinks deeply about things. how he was allowed to be famous without being cancelled is outstanding.
Year old comment but I’d say it’s because he has a leftist angle most of the time. I say most because I’ve not listened to every single thing he’s said. Nobody has!

His vocabulary is stellar.
Agreed. I'm a fan and writer of traditional lit & this man is a huge breath of fresh air. So quick, so eloquent.

Best Hot Ones guest by far. Russel is an intellectual juggernaut.
An*
I don't know about that, but he sure is a showman.
I'm not sure he is an intellectual juggernaut, but I do find him to be a living testament of the virtue of being honest with one's self while striving to communicate clearly. Speaking shamelessly and cultivating the vocabulary to express what ever you think is worth expressing is as Noble a pursuit as any other.
I think his vocabulary is so wide...not necessarily making him an intellectual juggernaut but he is definitely intelligent and interesting to listen to
I like that, “intellectual juggernaut”. I agree.
This guy is a machine! He's so quick, so eloquent that it doesn't stop to amaze me, even though I've seen hours of him!
He fascinates me. His mind is like a maze of crazy information that is in limbo that you really have no idea what to do with. But you still have to think about it.
I've always enjoyed listening to Russel and couldn't quite define why. You've summed it up perfectly. Although I must admit that I sometimes get lost in the insanity and in the informative parts of his speaking.

Hands down.
i agree that line alone hit me hard
Yes, he is profoundly insightful for such a randy dude 😂
To be honest, although articulately explained I don’t agree with him that the truth is subjective- there is only the truth which is fact, your truth is your opinion- not the same thing in my opinion
@@brabbit3389 Truth is subjective. It is influenced by personal feelings or opinions. What I believe to be the truth may not be what you believe.
Facts are not subjective, by definition anyway. If something happened, it happened. That's a fact. Nothing can change that.
Now, how I interpret that fact is my truth. How I feel about the fact is going to affect my truth.

One of my all-time favorite guests, on any show. The amazing thing about Russell's genius is that his mouth can keep up with his mind.
Exactly! So glad you put that into words, as I have yet to be able to. And oh how I wish my mouth could keep up like his!!
