  • A quick extra video on a new piece of kit. I watched a few videos on the Trend Airshield Pro and noticed none covered the first assembly as it comes in parts for self assembly, I also do a quick first impression review.

    Wood turning can be a dangerous hobby. My videos show my methods of turning and if you do not feel comfortable with my methods please do not copy them but rather use a method you feel comfortable using. Your safety is your responsibility as is the safety in your workshop. Enjoy the videos, hopefully something inspires you or helps you along the way. Irish woodturning is a craft that is dying out and should be preserved so that the tradition of Wood turning in Ireland stays alive and well.

    Thanks, Shay, for showing us this helmet. It looks really useful! With respect to sound quality, I preferred the sound from outside the helmet. Inside it, there was too much noise from the breathing system.

    Just watched your airshield pro assembly video. Very helpful. Don’t know how I’ll go doing it with one arm. I think I can get the filters on without completely removing the top. Also mine just came with the clear protective lense already installed. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

    useful video shay. I got one a couple of years ago, and it came pretty much assembled. it also came with a little tube thing for testing the air flow and a useful bag to keep it all in. it is a really good piece of kit but with one big but - after two years, of not a huge amount of use, the battery lasts a very short while, and a replacement battery is expensive. I have a bad neck and it is very comfortable, though in cold weather I have to wear a motorcycle balaclava under it or the blast of cold air buggers my neck. I find it very comfortable, and very effective. Regarding sound, I also prefer the outside mike.

    • @BBTurning
      @BBTurning  2 роки тому

      Cheers Mick, yup I found the tube stuck to one of the booklets after I had done the video.

    Also, I tested the voltage at the charging port and it read 3.85v, so it’s close to fully charged already. I’ll let it charge for a few hours and then tackle my spray painting job. Not willing to risk destroying my optical glasses with overspray. The last attempt with no glasses didn’t go so well

    Shay I use the same unit when doing most turning and all sanding. Like you I’m in my 70’s and worry about abusing my lungs. Great decision in my opinion. The headset inside is very noisy. The outside mic is better but you still hear the air moving. Probably a bigger time commitment but consider narrating after turning. Without doing that the outside mic is not too bad.

    • @BBTurning
      @BBTurning  2 роки тому

      Thanks Victor , I tried the narration thing and found I just did not like it and to be honest was not very good at it. I suppose I am just a live waffler. Yup we have to look after our lungs my friend.

    Hi Shay. I thought that the second mike was better as the noise from the motor seemed quieter.
    I have used one of these for a few years now and found it excellent. I did buy a second battery as
    they always run out half way through a job plus it makes a beeping noise when they start to go flat
    and its annoying. Good info on putting it together. Cheers

      Doug , sorry I don't understand your question, I installed the faceshield on camera and showed every part of how to do it, if you mean install the faceshield with the unit physically on a head it cant be done, if you mean the faceshield in use as in flipping up and down it doesn't , the entire helmet flips on two points on the headband.

    • @BBTurning
      @BBTurning  Рік тому

      That is what i do Ben, and remember the battery has to be "trained" amd shoudl always be drained for the first few charges. Like the phones from a few years ago the worst thing you can do is use it for a few minutes then charge it or to keep it charging when not in use.

    Everywhere I've read says flatten the battery or they get a memory, are they OK to just charge as needed or kept charged?

    • @BBTurning
      @BBTurning  Рік тому

      It seems like you have to teach the battery like the old school phone batteries Kev. The first few times run the totally flat then fully charge them. That is what I did and I have no problem with it so far. Probably the worst thing you can do is to run it down a little bit then put it on the charger or put it on charge every time it is used.
