Thank you. I started on it last night. Still have to pull clutch basket out for a better view but it looks like the spring on the shaft broke. Thanks again for the reply.
Hi Cody thanks for the great video. I have a 2004 ktm200 exc and the shifter no longer springs back. I can go through gears if I manually return the shifter to neutral position between shifts. It seems maybe a return spring is broke? i haven't opened her up yet. I see a spring on the shift shaft in the parts diagram but didn't see it on your shift shaft in the video. Is it possible this spring broke and I just need a new spring? Any thoughts? Thank you!
Yeah I think so, if you see the little arm on the shift drum with the "wheel" at the end of it, thats what makes the thing hold its gear, if the spring fell off, is loose, or if anything on that arm is damaged that will make it not hold its gear. In an extreme case, you could have a worn shift drum, but I HIGHLY doubt that.
So I put a new spring in and there's still no spring return. I'm testing the shifter as you do in the video but it never returns back to its neutral position. It appears that the spring does absolutely nothing. What am I missing?
