A huge advantage for this grandma is the ease of driving at night now, I just put the car on autopilot, have the bright lights set to auto dim when another car approaches, still keep alert and ready to take action in case a deer jumps out (common in Washington), but even that issue MAY become less of a concern when the new BETA Full Self Driving is released to the general public. I agree that the wiper issue is a problem in a sudden downpour when you want to keep your eyes fully on the road and not have to look away to turn the wipers on. Frustrating that you can’t (yet) use voice control to activate the wipers. All in all, at age 76 I’m lovin’ my Model Y!
Great review Ron. That was the major reason for buying the Model Y - SAFETY. Also getting up there. Save me from driving off the road or running into the back of another car. Was a good driver before, but this makes me even better. So relaxing on a trip. Great in traffic.
I'm older than you guys. I have a 2021 model Y and love it! My only complaint is the ride. As far as the windshield wipers go, I have had to use them other than the auto mode. In heavy rain they will go faster keeping up. As far as charging, I'm in a retirement center and the electricity is free for me to charge in my garage.
Thanks so much. I really enjoy your videos. You can activate voice commands with the right scroll bar button . This make many changes easy to do without taking your eyes off of the road.
I love these videos! Just ordered a Model Y and watched your videos in preparation for it. Hope all is well. Looking forward to seeing more films from you!
This grandpa likes his model Y, grandma does not want to drive it but really likes it when I floor it. I use voice commands to set the temp and fan speed but normally leave it in auto temp control. The wipers are on auto too, if I want to change the setting I push in the blinker stalk which also pops up the wiper control window instead of searching the bottom of the screen. I have been trying voice control first and find many thing like the climate controls, wipers and navigation work well with voice commands. My only complaint yet is also the harsh ride.
Thanks for your video. I just purchased my 2023 Tesla Model Y long range a few days ago. Also that same day did a test drive in the Model Y. So right now waiting for my VIN number and delivery date. I also am retired and will be just driving around town and short single charge trips. I don't have solar, but will be mainly charging at home via 220 volts. I am really going to like all the features of the Model Y and is a fun car to drive. Really love single pedal driving. I am just going to stick with the Basic Auto Pilot. EAP (6,000 dollars) and FSD (15,000 dollars) are just to costly right now plus I really don't see a need for them. Take care.
My 2001 Volvo (gone now) would drain down to dead battery while I was away for a few months. Had to figure out how to get in just to put a charger on the battery - everything's electric! Next trip I disconnected the battery and left the trunk lid open a little (that's where the battery is) then it started right up when I got back. I'll just leave the Tesla plugged in when away but turn off Sentry - hey, it's in the garage - someone breaks in there, they'll take all sorts of things and probably the house too!
Yeah, reaching over there to the screen is a bit sketchy if you're zooming down the road. Push that right hand roller wheel and talk to her, she'll turn on the wipers or A/C or whatever.
Talking to her is getting better. When we first got her voice would not open the glovebox. You had to select at least 2 different options to get to that selection. Still haven’t figured out how to just get the vent fan to turn on without the AC.
Surprisingly my wife loves our EV (not a Tesla) because of the smooth ride. It also has some of the familiar controls for the climate system, wipers and glove box.
When you unplugged for 7 days was your Y outside? Parked at LAX (inside) for a week and only lost 1%, which I thought was amazing. Denver in December outside I was losing 5% per night 🥶 ... Good job! 👍🏼👍🏼
Grand ma should get a Nissan Leaf (top trim), it address all her concerns and its very cheap and a really a comfortable drive, especially the 2017 model.
There must be a speed limiter that Grandma can implement. LOL. I guess you can use the audio sound commands for some of the hidden settings so you dont have to fumble with the centre console.
Great video. Very informative. I was wondering if you can share your insurance carrier? I too am in San Diego and I’ve been quoted some high rates. Thanks

Just turned 62. I didn't grow up with computers, I don't understand them at all. I just feel I'm being left behind with technology. I'm too old to learn new things. I still have, at least, 20 more good years of driving. I don't know what to do. I want an electric car for many reasons, but I don't think I will be able to handle the technology. I don't own a cell phone either, too complicated. I had a cell phone for a number of years but when everything switched over to "smart phones" I gave up. Getting old and being left behind is no fun.
Because of Tesla's price, I looked at a Hyundai Kona EV as an alternative. I really liked it, but ended up biting the bullet and getting a Tesla Model Y. Don't regret it at all. I'm 68 and I think this could be my last car; should last 20 years!

Yes. I’m on a RV trip right now and find the constant steering corrections to be quite tiring. Miss the Y.
This channel should get much more love. Straight to the point and love the editing.
Thanks.
A standard range prostate 😂🤣😂🤣☠️. Actually those prices are right back up there now for the long range. $55k.

Use voice commands for climate control and to open glove box. Can use chill mode for more gentle acceleration.

Congrats on the Y. I love mine. Working on a new video now while we are on a road trip.
I ordered mine and am waiting impatiently. Great vid!
Love the Model Y. Even love the quirky. Think a lot makes sense.

I have 30,000 miles in 3 years. Still love driving it. Have gone from San Diego to Denver 6 times now. Very relaxing to drive.

Hell yeah Grandpa and Grandma should be a Model Y!! We did and we will never look back. I love the room compared to my Model 3.
Geez, I'm just as old as you guys and I feel so young after watching you!

I was actually in Golden CO for Christmas.

That was just a dream. Wife would not have been in the car anyway.

I have Wawanesa. They seem a little picky on who they insure.
100% so Grandson can borrow it!!!
Voice commands for everything...including wipers.
I tried the glovebox several times and it’s “not supported”.
Oh I see. It works in my 2021 Model 3 LR. I just figured it would work in the Y
For blind spot check just tap the rear camera icon
Thanks I’ll give it a try.
I believe you can initiate the wipers by pushing in the left stalk button
It does activate the washers, but then stops.

You won't regret!
I am a grandpa and I love my model Y
You OK with the ride? My wife says it is too stiff.
Which company do you use for insurance? $53 per month is incredible for any car.
Wawanesa. Home and auto

Not to worry. Don’t buy a Tesla. Wait a few years. VW and the US manufactures will make more traditional EVs.
@@grandparonstesla5141 Good advice, thank you.

What insurance do you have that is only 53 bucks a month?
Wawanesa.
Hell yeah!
get it
👍
How is the quality of the car?
Mine has been great. No problems, good paint. Did pick up a nail in rear tire but can’t fault Tesla.
Voice Comtrol?
i am deaf. I need captions in your videos, please !!
Ok i just say open glove box
When I bought the car it didn’t work. I see now it does. Don’t know when they changed that.
No
