Love trifle, yours is packed with lots of goodies. Your custard looked like it was the perfect consistency. If I was making it, I'd add a layer of amaretti biscuits to create texture but there's something so simple and pleasurable about just having sponge (which looked nice and soft), jelly, custard and cream. Just wondered whether macarons are on your "ever expanding list"? I'm sure they'd be very popular (you can find a good recipe on my blog, no plug)

I was on holiday in England a couple of weeks ago and wanted to buy a swiss roll to make a trifle - but I couldn't find one anywhere that didn't have cream as well as jam in it! I suppose I'll just have to make my own.

That's next level. Basically, the jelly was from the shop, all other things you made yourself and it looks amazing.
If you use half set jelly it won't soak into the sponge and fill in the gaps !!! But if you are 4 years old you won't notice.

Let the custard cool down a bit - if you pour hot custard on jelly it will melt the jelly and make a mess .
