When I was younger, I didn't really think much of this story. My mind didn't really care much for it as the story felt so simple to me. The fact that a somewhat simple story still has some connection to a real life event really shows that this series has more depth to it than one might notice at first glance. Truly more than children's media.
The first source is likely the one Wilbert took inspiration from, in the Bookmark documentary he specifically mentioned the Railway Gazette, and the time lines up with when he would have been writing that book. He also made mention of the crash in A Close Shave from that newspaper. One thing that hasn't surfaced was the photos sent to him for Super Rescue, hope they do someday
Thoroughly enjoyed this video as alway, just a quick one though. The city Leicester is my home city, and yes we brits are a tad strange with how we pronounce our towns and cities. But it’s simple pronounced “Les-ter” or if you have the local East Midlands/Leicester accent, it’s more like “Les-tah”. Yep, weird. I know. Can’t wait for the next video!
Ah shoot that’s my bad man, I make the mistake of going for every syllable sometimes rather than the simpler pronunciations and it bites me every time! 😅 Thank you so much though man and I’ll keep that in mind moving forward!! And genuinely I can’t thank you enough for actually helping with such rather than just being upset at it. The latter is more common I find 🤣🤙
@@ItsTrainBoy No worries mate, you should hear the accents around the UK try to pronounce it. Always a fun one. You’ll always get those who feel offended, while I’m glad you gave it a go unlike some who’d just breeze over it. We have a few other cities over here that are similar with odd spelling to pronunciation but we somehow manage. But a brilliant video over all, always enjoyed these truth behind ones as it opens up so much into the lore and Awdry’s inspiration while writing. Can’t wait for the next one.👌🏻
Fabulous video Trainboy but I have to correct you on one thing. You said “near Essex.” when the whole of the Clacton to London line runs across the County of Essex, except for the last small section that is in London.
fascinating video as always and i love that the RWS and the classic TV series base their incidents off of real life scenarios. Also Leicester is prounced "less-ter". I would love to see more of these videos.
Do more, please, like season 5 episodes, Rusty to the rescue, Thomas and Stepney, bluebells of England, a close shave, old faithful, Rusty helps Peter Sam, you can’t win, the diseasel, Woolly bear, Gordon goes foreign, and Thomas’s Christmas party
How about the next on is on 'Thomas and the Trucks'? I've looked everywhere and I haven't found anything that might be a source. (except for Train of Thought's video on how the E2s weren't really useful and their bad braking was the reason Thomas' trucks train away with him. Although, I don't quite get how that lines up with how Awdry wanted Thomas as a J50. (smol edit here; why is this comment showing up twice?)
In the 1947 article, is the place called “Weeley, Essex” in the northeast of the USA? If it is, then I’ve been to their “Day Out With Thomas” events since I was little!
Nah not really lmao- 💀 Related to the story though (which I should’ve been more clear on my bad) it’s pretty coincidental/ event for event though and that was the allusion I was tryna hint at
I love knowing the truth about t&f episodes cause it’s very interesting, and I’m a big fan of the old t&f series and I would love to see it come back but we all know it won’t. (the time I comment this the video has 666 likes)
Nice to see you pronounced Leicester wrong again. It's pronounced Lesta not Lie Ces ter. Still I find it interesting one of the scources for this episodes incident happened near where I live. :)
I've got here what could be the real life version of Henry's sneeze/whistles and sneezes about how a train driver used his loco to get payback on some young vandals ua-cam.com/video/kBVb2Oct8fs/v-deo.html
Hi Trainboy - UK English pronunciation strikes again - I'm sure someone else will have mentioned this, but Leicester is pronounced "Lester" - like Gloucester is "Gloster".
I enjoy your videos, but as a brit I am jarred by your pronouncement of many place names, Nottingham I can accept, as I know most yanks use the hard Ham, but my boy, Leicester made me spit out my tea. for future reference, it is pronounced Lester. And pretty much very place ending in 'cester', gets shortened to 'ster'. It's long and complicated, map men have done a good video on it.

I enjoyed the part when James said "it's bootlacing time" and bootlaced all over the passengers. truly the episode of all time.
James: TyrannoBootlace!
And then the guard said to the passengers: "All your bootlace are belong to us!"

I wish there are more TVS and Real life hybrid photoshop that doesn’t have a black and white filter.
It give them a more cinematic feel.
I missed this series! I’m so happy you brought it back :D
Trainboy could talk about any part of Thomas and friends history and still make it so entertaining :)
can I just say rest in piece to Jeremiah jobblings, his prop is no longer with us. Rip my guy.
I've been hearing about the inspiration online, but awesome of you to point it out. And interesting that in the 2000s, a driver asked for some tape.

It's ok, you're not the only one from Leicester who noticed trainboy pronounced it wrong.
I'm glad you brought back the True Stories again. You go and have a good day and some good rest from all the hard work you've been doing for us
Two vids in day? My boy is on fire!
I'm Happy That The Series Is Back
Do the story of deputation accident based of the snowstorm of 1952
Glad to see this series come back!
Also, the part where James accidentally sprays Sir Topham Hatt’s top-hat was inspired by an event witnessed by Awdry at Ghent, Belgium
Glad to see this series is back. Can’t wait to see the next one!
Maybe you can do Percy and the plunge and Percy and Harold next? Great video Trainboy! ❤❤❤❤

Trainboy: Ya'll don't have electrical tape up there?
Engineer: No, I hadn't thought that far ahead.
I wonder if there's a real story to things like Escape, Duncan gets spooked ( like what happens to the ghost of the iron bridge), and Cows
Your videos rekindled my love for Thomas again after years of not caring
Thank you so much brother man, I hope I can also help keep it going 🙏

The legend was back......
Love you content mate! Another great video! By the way, Leicester is somewhere I grew up and we pronounce it as “Leh-Stir”. Cheers! (:
In the 1947 article, is the place called “Weeley, Essex” in the northeast of the USA? If it is, then I’ve been to their “Day Out With Thomas” events since I was little!
can you do the true story of bowled out
Ay, it’s back!
You know it big dawg! 😎🤙
You should do Henry's Sneeze/Whistles and Sneezes for a future episode. Also, Leicester is pronounced "Les-ter" by the way
Ha! Being born in Leicester I had to laugh at your pronunciation ;) It's pronounced Lester
Is there any inspiration behind “Thomas and the breakdown train”?
Bruv I think awdry just saw a 2-6-0 pulling some coaches and it stoped and awdry said “ Y. E. S”
I wonder how that guy felt knowing his bootlace mended a train.
Love this episode mam one of the best in my opinion
What I can't understand is why they used a leather bootlace specifically.
Can u do next video: history of bulgy the bus is model history of ttte
Still don’t think how on earth bootlaces and tape would be enough to continue a passenger train
Imagine making a leak in your coach's brake pipe that had to be mended with, of all things, a passenger's bootlace 😩couldn't be me
Genuine clown behavior like- 🤡🥱🥴
@@ItsTrainBoy hi!!!!!!!! I'm your biggest fan :D
23 hour till this is 24 hour or 1 day old
hey um tell me what is your opinion on season 25 i hate it
Can you please see what the inspiration for Thomas, Terence and the Snow was?
Do James and the trucks next please.
Interesting! And the true stories of ttte is back!!
What happened to your history of series
Interesting
2:30 it's not really a coincidence tho lol
Nah not really lmao- 💀
Related to the story though (which I should’ve been more clear on my bad) it’s pretty coincidental/ event for event though and that was the allusion I was tryna hint at
Well the incident happened at Lancaster which is kind of a coincidence considering James comes from there
maybe that's why awdry chose james to star in the story
I love knowing the truth about t&f episodes cause it’s very interesting, and I’m a big fan of the old t&f series and I would love to see it come back but we all know it won’t.

Nice to know!:)
The tape story imitates father Ted far more than it does Thomas the tank engine!
How about a true story of the episode Toad stands by
I fuckin love when trainboy you uploads
3:46 well what if they were out of said tape?
Want to hear something Wilbert Audrey never intended Thomas to be in J 50 or E2 he wanted him to be a 404 Johnson and Johnson locomotive
I love this video, but I feel that in your newer videos you're talking slower than your slightly older ones
I try to since people complain a lot about me talking too fast- it just keeps the pace better lowkey 💀
@@ItsTrainBoy damn I guess
This happened in real life? Well I am shocked I thought this was something Awdry made up
3:15 It is pronounced Lester, just like Derby is pronounced Darby, Gloucester Gloster, Worcester Wooster, etc.
Percy's Promise please.
Saved by bootlaces
Nice to see you pronounced Leicester wrong again. It's pronounced Lesta not Lie Ces ter. Still I find it interesting one of the scources for this episodes incident happened near where I live. :)

Hi Trainboy - UK English pronunciation strikes again - I'm sure someone else will have mentioned this, but Leicester is pronounced "Lester" - like Gloucester is "Gloster".
Leicester is actually pronounced Lester.
South of 'Likester' (it's pronounced 'lester' but I can see how it makes sense - good vid otherwise)
Alright, where are my custom James Red No. 5 vessys?
Someone get on that (I make no promises to pruchase as i am broke)
