This is the first time I have heard anyone play the intro to LHIUTLI as well as Ian Underwood, if anything with even more sensitivity and emotion. This is amazingly well done. Jaw on floor time! (from a Zappa fan for over 50 years)
There's no telling how many times I've listened to this song by Zappa. And I am amazed how well this pianist captured the spirit of the song. Good phrasing.
There was more sincere emotion in those three and a half minutes of piano than in most musicians' whole lives. I'm overwhelmed. Blessings upon you, Miss Palmer.
Very eloquent presentation and performance , I'm positive the Zappa family appreciates your performance as much as we all do , I miss Frank alot , seeing his tour was the highlight of my summers from 1969 to 1986 .
I was a huge Zappa fan from the time I was about 13 on. The album freak out had just come out, and we and my whole group of friends just loved it This is one of my absolute favorite little interludes on burnt weenie sandwich I always wondered if this is something that Ian underwood improvised/wrote but didn’t get credit for. Either way, it’s a tremendous piece of music. Thank you for such a beautiful performance of it.
Heloise you play with so much emotion. l've been a Zappa fan since I was 12 y/o. I bought my first Zappa record in 1965. His music has always alluded any attempt to be labeled and was constantly evolving. You captured the essence of this piece. I would love to hear your interpretation of The Black Page. Thank you for this.
A friend turned me on to Zappa fully in the 70’s after I bought Apostrophe. Ian Underwood impressed the hell out of me with his nuance. Not to disgrace his interpretation, but your work is haunting.
This take on Frank’s composition is superb. I’ve always been taken with it, since it appeared on his release, ‘Burnt Weeny Sandwich’ some 50 years hence. Thanks to Marco Dalpane for a very diligent interpretation; Frank would enthusiastically approve!
Superb! Beautifully interpreted. Your performance gave me chills. Certainly one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed. Is there a score available?
Have you worked on Zappa's Black Page piece? I've done two arrangements of it (but I don't have the chops to play either of them). One is arranged for flute and piano and other for solo piano. The flute&piano version is here, played by my computer: ua-cam.com/video/bNY8tqoziAk/v-deo.html
Dear Richard, no, I haven't but would be interested in taking a look at your arrangement. Would you consider sending me your score? I haven't got a flutist 'at disposal', but do perform regularly as a soloist. - Best to you, Heloïse
Whenever I see a woman playing music in this style..I feel like im witnessing the perfect woman Nietzsche talks about. "The perfect woman is something higher than the perfect man, but also a lot more rare". Great playing.

+elie chemaly Hello Elie and thank you for your comment. Sorry, I cannot help you, because I haven't got the official score. I listened to it and learned it by ear. Best to you.
Cheers Tamir, you listen to it for a couple of times and very carefully. At some point you get it in your ears - then you just play what you hear from 'within'.

Perhaps there is. I don't know. I took the 'liberty' to listen to it and write it down by ear.
There is one on youtube: ua-cam.com/video/_Ii05h4T2_Y/v-deo.html
if i'm not mistaken, there is a transcription by Ian Underwood in the "Frank Zappa Songbook"
Possibly Zappa's best little piano solo. It could have been composed by Charles Ives. Expertly played -- Thank you!

Immaculate!
Thank you, Roland, you've got an interesting surname... Is this a pseudonym or 'genuine'?
It's definitely real - and I have the birth certificate! :-)
:-) That's a quite amazing coincidence...
If memory serves me, that's Don Preston ("Dom De Wild") on the opening solo, not Ian Underwood.
Don Preston does the second piano solo between Sugarcane Harris' solos.

just for the records...this piece of music was originally written by Arnold Schönberg in 1911 ...six little piano pieces
It's in the style of Schönberg but it is a work of Zappa.
