Thought tugs were mandatory for escorting ships that size coming in and out of Port
No. Too high a likely hood of the ship capsizing the tug as it attempts to gain speed. Check out “casual navigation” to learn about that.
@@dirtyvinyl8817are you an authority on the subject ?
@@madmoiselle007 are you capable of using the search bar at the top of the UA-cam website?
@@madmoiselle007 Its called girding or girting depending where you are from. Tug boats are HIGHLY susceptible to this due to their tow lines being positioned midship for maneuverability. The only time you'd see a Tug guiding a ship past its berth is when the ship cannot move under her own power. For everything else, you use harbor pilots.
One thing is certain after this tragedy, that in all ports the security and safety protocols will be enforced much more
Why wasn't the road crew informed
How? In 2 minutes that's almost impossible, how would officials reach them?
@@siramoras two-way radios ?
@@MathTidbitsIf the crew was actively working away from the vehicles. It was not enough time to do anything to save themselves.
Anyone on loud machinery also isn't going to hear the radio.
There was notification from a guy to another (I’m assuming it was the guys boss on the bridge) guy telling him to get the men off the bridge. The guy that received that message told that guy who sent it that he was going to wait for him to get there 🤬😡 I feel these men could have been saved 😢
Yeah, that’s what I’m saying you mean to tell me that there was no police detail on a nighttime bridge construction site?!?! I don’t think so…. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of such a thing where a construction site doesn’t have some sort of police detail definitely at night definitely on a bridge.
Kind of surreal...
It is.
That's why you add timed demo and the while thing does down in 3 seconds
@@puvlea83wow dude you’re so smart

What no tug boats
Why no huge powerful warships To drag the cargo ship away from the bridge
Because not ship has needed them for the past 40 years.
Bcuz tugs & their crews would eat N2 Maersk's profit$$.
@@WagnerPD It doesn't eat into the profits because the extra cost will always be passed on to the consumer. Simple economics.
Thoughts and prayers to the construction workers that are not yet found and likely saved hundreds of lives ❤❤
They're dead
Guys insurance hates him right now
This is why certain Ports will only Allow,or did only allow Tug Boats,to Port ships
According to a report I saw, there were two tugs that brought the ship out but they broke away shortly before getting to the bridge.
This epitomizes the 2020s
Every bridge collapse in the 2010s, 2000s, 1990s, 1980s, etc wondering wtf you are trying to say with that.
Why weren’t the workers on the bridge alerted? They closed traffic on both ends?
Two minutes!
Even if they'd had a radioed warning, the bridge was evidently 1.6 miles long. How long would it have taken to have gotten into their vehicles and driven off the bridge?
It's funny how every other day it seems there's a new issue going on, makes u wonder what's really going on xD
This is just regularly scheduled strategic infrastructure collapse! Nothing to see here!
No, it doesn't
That's some really faulty reasoning going on there.
TBH given how many boats , trains, planes and cars there are its amazing there aren't more accidents like this.
It's life. It's gon keep lifin. Can't stop won't stop
It's beyond frustrating how many decrepit vessels are allowed near such vital infrastructure.
Decrepit?
Was she not sea worthy?
You do realize well maintained ships do have mechanical issues from time to time? I mention this as someone who has been onboard a well maintained ship when we list the main engine approaching a set of bridges.
@@purdybillBros just been waiting to use that word for a long time. Let him have his moment 😂
Kinda reminds me of politicians all over the world
@user-cb4zz7ud9f bro might be onto something. I take 100% of everything with a grain, but there were multiple instances this boat was apparently repaired for running into things. This info came from a news segment. Only the blackbox will really tell.
Lets not forget its D rated infrastructure.
This hit wouldn't have taken down a modern bridge.
But crony capitalism for the win right?
The bridge was massive
Praying for all 🤲🏼✅
Surely looks like it turned into pilar
It was pulled out of channel towards the shore by the current after loosing steerage.
@@purdybill how much current can there be in standing water?
@@Aerinn1265you'd be shocked actually, a lot of "calm/standing water" has strong currents underneath. It's why they say not to drive through flooded roads, just imagine that on a much larger scale and then well disaster
@@Aerinn1265 - Standing water???
The tide was going out, the ship sailed past tributary that would have affected the ship that was basically adrift.
Expert analysis. Conspiracy solved
How did they loose steering when the police cant even say who was driving or who was in charge driving the ship !! Seems a little weird! Not sure all is being told !!
A Ukrainian was piloting the ship.
A Google search is fast and very informative 🤦♀️ The WHOLE SHIP lost power entirely, which is why they couldn't stop or steer and they dropped the anchor. Thats why they put out the mayday to get everyone out of the way.
The police? A harbor pilot assists with bringing the large ships out of port to open water. Then he is picked up and returned to port.
The ship lost its power, no matter who was controlling the ship it wasn’t their fault. They did every emergency procedure they were supposed to do.
@@quietcool4884 No, the entire crew was Indian.
That’s going to be expensive
🥱 Joe Biden was quick to announce “No biggie, we’ll pay for it.” 😧
Thanks to indian crew who alerted and saved lives, the two pilots driving the ship where locals of Baltimore they were non indian❤
It looks intentional, it was drifting and for a minute it was going in it original direction.
Then it gets power back on and turns direction into the bridge.
The amount of ppl who know nothing about vessels speaking is tiring
No it does not
Bro the power went out they couldn't steer, it turns back on for a sec and then goes out again and as soon it goes back on it hits it on accident
Conspiracy theroist engage...
The bridge is named after the author of star spangled banner song Bridge. This is a symbol of the collapse of our nation.
It's a trip to think about it like that. Very poignant though
It's a trip to think about it like that, very poignant
Yeah but there’s another bridge in DC with the same name. So only half way there
Trump is the symbol of the downfall of America, not some long dead songwriter.
What an idiotic unfounded thought .
Could someone explain why taxpayers are picking up the cost as opposed to the ships insurance
It will take years to get it from the insurance. The bridge needs to be rebuilt immediately. They may eventually get reimbursed for the cost.
Because they kinda need the bridge rebuilt ASAP. You sound like a Republican
I don't think that bridge could fall like that from that boat hitting it. Where is tug boat and coast gaurd
The ship weighs 200k tons
@fart63 do you know what the bridge weighs?
The golden gate bridge for example would weight about twice what the cargo shipped weight. But i don't know what this bridge weights
@@jmfarms3555this bridge is not even a fraction of the size of the Golden Gate Bridge and doesn’t get any maintenance because it isn’t a money making tourist attraction
1200 feet of open space. Somehow direct contact with Pilar. Go figure
they cross at the deepest point. But its also because of dropping anchor that prob cause it to change direction for the worse. It is the captains fault - he knew he had engine issues, he could have lined it up at a safer distance.
1200 feet is not a lot with a ship that size drifting in the current
Looks like from the harbor map, the ship is hugging the limit line in the channel lane outbound. Too close to one of the bridge supports. Should have been more into the center of the outbound lane. If the ship would have been in the "center" of the out bound lane then suffering the propulsion plant and electrical failure would have given more time to react before drifting into the Bridge support. She was too close to that bridge support and not in the center of the outbound lane on the approach to the bridge.
Same thing I'm wondering. I'm hearing no one talking about it's initial course which appears to be not center of the bridge supports
Big captain was EFF-ing his li'l Chippee... #2 or #3 in command. Maersk Used-2B 'the' shipping line American sailors want to crew on. My dad's best friend retired from 'em as a Chief Engineer, my dad an A-B.
Then the ship would have been closer to the other support. If only hindsite could be used all the time.
If you are reading this from outside the Baltimore area, we have been having TERRIBLE weather ever since the collapse. There has been days of heavy rain, lightening, high winds, hail and finally and earthquake on Friday. In spite of all that, there are heavy duty lifting cranes out there, divers in the water, steel cutters, the Coast Guard and the Army Corps of Engineers out on the river.
@toxi_com_777 It's a floating marine lifting crane. It has to live at a port somewhere. Other marine lifting cranes had to be transported to Baltimore from other ports. Certainly all of the cranes currently working on the job were not already in Baltimore. It took days for the rest to get here.
@toxi_com_777 Oh please! What a load of rubbish! It was a suspension bridge. When its support was knocked out, there was nothing to hold up all of that steel and it all fell down into the river. No melting was necessary, just the weight of the road span.
Funny how many container ships have crashed at key choke points since 2020. Never seen them crash before. Its almost as if someone is doing it on purpose
@toxi_com_777 same weapons as hawaii mate no blue roofs burned lazers don't touch blue
@toxi_com_777 your bob on correct there brother well spotted
This video doesn't show the 45 seconds before impact where the cargo ship turned 90° nailing the bridge support dead center.
I knew it was more to the Story🤦🏾🤦🏾
@@TYBSAVGE13there is more to the story and it isn’t this. The ship lost its power and started to drift with the wind. The rudder stopped working with the power outage and the ship was unable to be steered
That's why it was not by mistake.
Where are the containers?
Most of them are still on the ship, only a few on the bow (front)that were hit by falling bridge were busted.
Looks like the drove straight at the bridge support…
Because the ship lost power
They had no power how would they direct themselves
Did you notice that they reported that they lost their steering. Not power. Cyber attack!!
Steering depends on power to move the ship beyond drift speed so water will flow past the rudders.
Cyber attack.. absolute rubbish
This ship was built in 2015 and has failed multiple inspections since.
Not understanding how a ship engine works is part of your problem
Totally on purpose! If u think otherwise..u are clueless
sure
LOL
I still think that it was done on purpose.
Hi there, i have some prime beachfront land in Arizona for a very low prize, you have to be quick to buy

“Stunning sight”
Why would a ship that size go in the direction of the bridge???
That boat 🛥️ couldn’t go under
If it couldn't go under the bridge how did it get on the other side of the bridge to begin with?
How did it get in 😂
that is not how it came towards the bridge; it! came in from the side!

When 100 thousand tonnes ship wrecks a bridge trusses like spider web
"drifts" off course.
It's PATAPSCO River.. CHESAPEAKE BAY MARYLAND .. Arm of the sea.. 🌊 ...
I also agree this was done on purpose
Its bc they lost control of the ship they would have been able to stear to move it but bc they lost control it collided into it thats the reason it collapsed
They lost control because they lost engine power, the rudder does not function without power
Why are American taxpayers paying for this, instead of the Singapore govt whos flag this ship flew?
Why should Singapore pay??? By the way the MV Dali is flagged in the Marshall Islands and owned by Synergy in Singapore who has chartered it out to Maersk.
They should of had concert buffers to protect it.
Should i re order my Amazon package?
Dolphins/bumpers might have prevented this. Why were there none installed?
Because they weren't required in 1977. That requirement came about in 1980
@jimbobeireThat’s why I’m saying they should have had a reinforced concrete barrier near the bridge support. Got it!!!!
@toxi_com_777 No room and some conspiracy stuff.

How is this possible? Seems like a stupid accident, or is it just me?
Yes it is you. While it’s a shocking freak accident, it is just a freak accident. We’ve had weirder ones.
They say they lost steering, they say off power, yet when the lights go off the engines are still pumping away and steering directly towards the bridge pier… we all know what we saw. This was done on purpose…
Yeah. I saw a ship lose power and collide with a bridge support, bringing the bridge down. The ship had Singapore registry, carrying Danish cargo with an Indian drew. We're not at war with any of them, so why would they intentionally ram the bridge?
It’s Trumps fault 😂
Probably.
how...?
No s*** I'm talking about seeing the view from the opposite side not from the stern but from the bow
Where the ever loving fluck are the crash barriers around those supports??? Duhhhhhhhhh

One question meaby silly, if he drop the anchor will that help ???
