- The first season of Infinity Train has arrived. Join me as I discuss the first 5 episodes of Tulip’s trek of zany self-discovery through the following train cars: Grid, Beach, Corgi, Crystal, and that one that belongs to the Cat.
Be aware that I do mention some events that occur in the second half of the miniseries, so it's best you watch the whole show before watching this review.

Also, I'm now aware of why the Steward skittered away from One-One in the Corgi Car (I also discuss this in part 2 of my Book 1 review). The little tune One-One hums is the same as the noise that Amelia uses to control the Steward in "The Cat's Car," and One-One makes the noise again to freeze the Steward mid-attack in the final episode. Apparently that's how you "phreak" (look up the term phreaking if you're curious, it's what Amelia does with the phone in the flashback) into the Steward's command system.
Rhys Darby does the voice of Randall and your ears don't deceive you, he is from New Zealand. :)

Oh wow that's great, I hadn't realized that the way Amelia learned to control the Steward was the same as phone phreaking. Another great detail in this show!

I think it's good noticing that the way we see the dungeon train being infinite is because it loops in a infinite cycle, representing no progress, no emotional growth, just caught in a circle that never ends even if you can see the end, and the infinity train is a long one, not sure if it's infinite, but it goes into the horizon rather than in a loop, that inspires progress, even if you are in a train that never seems to end, even if phisicaly your trip is infinite, you can still reach the emotional end, and that is the main goal of this train, emotional growth and being good with your life even if you don't like it. That's why it compares more to The Hall Of Egress rather than Dungeon Train.
About the steward running off when it sees One One. One One is actually humming/whistling the same tune that the Conductor uses to control the steward. Neat little continuity thing there
I was just about to look for a comment mentioning this! It's a really fun thing to notice, and a lot of these little details make rewatches even better
Another thing to add is the space under the metal face it wears when tulip kicks it, looks like 1-1 could fit inside
Actually i don't think that this was the motive of the steward running away i think it was just running to warn amelia about tulip and one-one progressing because in the pilot the steward just runned away and one-one sayed a different line

I love how realistically it portrays divorce. I mean, scheduling? I haven't heard that problem caused by divorce mentioned in any show, period!
Tulip's character was easily one of the best things about Infinity Train, it was thoroughly developed and I loved it
Honestly her characterization was done so well, I'm a little worried that whatever character/s take the torch for the continuation won't be able to hold a candle to her.
@@uncivilizedelk Same, that is my only major concern for future seasons, I don't know if they'll be able to keep the story as compelling and emotionally resonant as it was with Tulip through her family drama.

Amelia was trying to keep One-One AWAY from the engine so of course, the Steward isn't going to grab and take off with him if it's reporting to Amelia.

Randall is Rhys Darby! Fantastic New Zealand comedian, manager from the Flight of the Conchords show, Coran in Voltron, among other notable roles.
So he's the guy who goes between thinking that they're maybe good, no wait no no, they're not, directly in front of someone who wanted to book The Flight of The Concords for a gig a comedy club.

I loved the reference to the hall of egress episode, “no more mystery; no more egress.” Adventure Time is my favorite show of all time and I didn’t even make that connection.

There were a LOT of Adventure Time parallels I noticed throughout Infinity Train so I'm glad you mentioned a few of them.
The way I read the stewards's behavior : I do not think the conductor had direct control, just crude commands she could issue via notes. This would explain its sometimes erratic and destructive behavior since it is working off incomplete or even incompatible orders, and then it runs into the entity that is supposed to be controlling it and hits some kind of 'return if' command.
If Infinity Train is what ends up filling the hole that Adventure Time left in my heart, I'm 100% onboard (pun entirely intended).

I think we actually saw Randall in the ball pit car, where he was chillin' in a jar on a shelf
That object resembled those water people, but I don't remember it moving whatsoever, so I think it was inanimate. Guess it could theoretically be a split part of Randall without the blade of grass inside him, but I doubt it as Tulip and One-One don't acknowledge him and vice versa.

It makes more sense that it isn't actually Randall, but even if that is the case I like to think it was a deliberate easter egg in reference to him

I watched this series for the fun mystery sci fi adventures, but I was genuinely amazed with how good the writing was for the human characters. When tulip argues with her parents, it doesn’t feel like one side is universally right, it doesn’t feel like there’s any lesson we’re supposed to take away form it, it doesn’t feel like any side is particularly irrational, it didn’t feel like conflict for the sake of it, I feel for every person in the room. It’s so incredibly understandable, I don’t think I’ve seen an argument like that on tv before.
That part about dolph world really hit me..
When i went to disney land my parents started fighting and i couldnt even go anywhere.. I only got ice water from Starbucks and left. My dad planned on leaving us when we got back home and yep. He left. My mom packed his things in a bag and threw them. I stayed all night wondering if he will come back. He didnt i called him and shit. Hes in prison now... Ugh.. But i still love him. He is the reason i exist..

9:04 It didn't skitter off once it *saw* One-One, it skittered off once it *heard* One-One. One-One hums the same tune that Amelia uses to command the Steward, and a similar tune to the one One-One uses to stop the Steward from attacking them in their control panel.
i throughly enjoy your channel so much. as a cartoon lover and especially ones who have a overall story in it. you go into such great detail about things in a way that’s not boring and keeps the watcher interested. i only watched infinity train because i saw you had made videos on it. You do an amazing job i know you don’t upload as much as you used to since adventure time but i’m not upset because when you do upload it’s on things your passionate about and you really enjoy and that’s what make the videos great. Your channel is truly a gem on youtube i wish more people would see.
I think the reason why the steward runs off when it sees one one is because the way that the conductor controls it is by playing the little motif used in the title card, and one one accidentally hums that tune when he jumps out of the bag. It's actually hinted at the "The Past Car" when they play a specific tune on a flute to jack into the phone network. I think it's a really cool detail, personally!
I love Atticus' dog-related qualities; specifically getting him to go in or out doorways.

I think One-one's design is a reference to how our brains work, with two hemispheres and the way they work together but also separate.

The scene where tulip truly remembered the talk her parents had with her had me in tears on my viewing of it. As someone who also has parents who got divorced when I was a teen... It read as painfully accurate.
My personal experience with the change was different because of multiple things, and there was no talk where both parents were present, but each of my parents did broach the subject to me at different moments and one line in particular from the show was pretty much word for word what both of them rd me separately.

So that scene is the most powerful one from the season for me.
Season 2 is my faaaaavorite. I need to re-watch 3 to really appreciate it better. Fantastic series. Really great execution of a specific vision in season 1. It feels like the show runner got out _exactly_ what they wanted from the first season.
A giant crystal takes out a stair from his mouth , blows away the crystal ladder made by Tulip with a flick of his finger , also he takes out a teeny key with his gigantic hands to open a small door.......

I was also really hooked by the family drama aspect, but the set design being so great and the amazing music certainly helped.
As someone who’s gone through this shit and has lived on a custody schedule for the past 8 years (now I follow it to get equal time with them instead since I’m 19), this show really struck a nerve with me. It really externalized all the emotions I felt during that process. This show is simply a masterpiece, a true hidden gem.

its really interesting the dialog is so smart and realistic i didnt even realize how well written it is before watching it a second time. even the line the mom said that establishes the divorce dynamic right away seemed so right i only noticed how genius it was when he mentioned it in this video.
I believe the Steward didn’t bring One One in the Corgi Car episode because Amelia wanted to keep him as far from the engine car as possible. This was established in the final episode when Amelia admits that her trying to stop Tulip was just to keep One One away from the engine. The fact that One One (with Tulips help) is slowly making his way to the engine would be something worth telling the Conductor, hence why the Steward left without taking him.
This is also why the Steward shoots One One and the Cat in the Ball Pit Car episode rather than taking him back with them.

It's a hard detail to notice, but at 9:04 the steward leaves because One-One sang the 4 note jingle. If you notice every time the steward suddenly stops/leaves or does something, it usually had the 4 note jingle before

My thought for why the conductor wouldn't have their underling capture oneone was because her goal was to get oneone as far from the the engine as possible, if he gets back to the engine, even by her own intention, he could possibly take over the train again even since once he sees his "mum" in the last episode, his first instinct is to charge and take control again no matter what. By finding his location and having it report back to her she can find a new way to impede their progress and set them back, probably hoping tulip will get her exit and get them off the train.
I am SO happy you did a video on this! This show needs so much more appreciation than it’s getting.

If anything, I’d say that Infinity Train doesn’t feel like a copy of Over the Garden Wall, but rather was inspired by it, took it’s message to heart, and created something new with it. That’s a good thing.

The conductor didn't want One One making it to the Engine. The Steward probably intended to report that it had been let out of its train car.

I love the level of analysis you take on some of these cars. I definitely hope this series will continue, and I definitely am looking forward to seeing you review the rest of these episodes. I'm pretty sure the latter half of the miniseries will definitely entail a longer video with more analysis
A small thing I like the comment though, I love the character in The Crystal car who was able to convey a message even without speaking a single word. I also found his design to be rather charming
I imagine that since one one can control the steward, Amelie doesn't want to risk loosing his main weapon, in fact, she never lets the steward near one one except for the last moment where all her hope was lost

In addition, I think the Steward is maybe afraid of One-One because even though One-One is not the brightest, he/it/they have incredible power. Lastly, I know you prefer the more morbid One (I love him too) but I do believe the child-like one also has his moments such as singing the Benny Hill theme song in the first episode as Tulip was running away from the Cockroach dogs XD

The reason the Stuart left when it saw One-One in the Corgi Car was because One-One talked about how they should all go back to the monster party car or something, the Stuart recognized One-One as the true conductor, and did as he said, most likely going to the monster party car. Or at least that's what I think happened

The reason why it doesn't take one-one away is this: it recognised him as the conductor. This would confuse her, because she was just following orders from the conductor whom she knew was at the front of the train. She could not compute the duality of conductors and so went back to the front of the car to find the original conductor.

Hits different in the year 2023, where Infinity Train has long since been purged from HBO Max, and now Over the Garden Wall is being similarly purged.
I’m guessing it’s going to be a new protagonist every season just like Doctor Who regenerate every few seasons there were a lot of passengers on the train that we could use for each series

I think the Steward isn’t perfect without One-One. It can only take 1 order at a time without them.

I loved Infinity Train from start to finish. It was such a nice experience. 💕
My Theory: The Corgi Car was yet _another_ failed attempt at recreating the campus.
there's literally a 50% chance of it, since the cars are either from One-one (generally random cars that are meant to cover any situation) or Amelie, it's about a british society so it wouldn't be far off to think that a kingdom could be a failed attempt of that
The "no more egress..." moment caused my mind to go through the entire series of Adventure Time.
A possibility about the Steward running off, is that, just like One-One, it has a personality, self-awareness, and identity of its own - though being somewhat like a "service robot" to the infinity train, he didn't get much chance to express it.
We learn in the last episode that One-One was overthrown by Amelia, which seems a tad strange given he has such a fearsome entity as the Steward to protect him. We also know that Amelia has spent quite some time on the train, and in the engine car as well, trying to convince One-One to make a car specifically for her.
What could have happened, is that Amelia, losing hope that One-One would listen, has convinced the Steward to take her side to overthrow him. And, if the Steward indeed had a personality, it's possible he was discontent with his position and wanted to improve it by allying with Amelia.
So, once the coup succeeds and thinking they got rid of One-One (likely tossing him in a newly-made car and sending it way back in the train, just like Amelia did with Tulip's exit car door), when the Steward does meet One-One again, he fears the consequences of his betrayal, not realizing that One-One lost his memories, and flees to prevent himself from falling under One-One's control again, to go alert the conductor (Amelia) and think of a counter plan.
I don't know if you just decided to not put it in the video or you seriously didn't notice it, but in the second episode, the beach car, Tulip's number goes up and down during the time of her repairing the cat's means of transportation.
The Steward ran away become One-One commanded it to go away when he sings some notes.

Nathan Matos But One-One plays the same song Amelia plays to the Steward. The Steward is responding to the notes, just like how Amelia hacked the phone booth (a process called phreaking).

Steward behaviour explained.
We know that Emilia took control of the train by hacking it with melodies and sounds(the same she did in the telephone booth with Alrick). That's how she cotrols the Steward. She knew that One-One, when inside her Mum(Train Computer), also cotrols the Steward with sounds. But Emilia doesn't know if One-One retained the power to control the Steward with sound when outside his Mum. So Emilia, just in case, programmed the Steward if it hears any sounds coming from One-One to leave the Car, it is currently in, as soon as possible, as to avoid being taken over by One-One again.
That's exactly what we see in the Corgi car. One-One gets out of Tulip's backpack, sings a melody, the Steward's flight program is activated and it runs off.

Why was the Steward in the Corgi car in the first place right after Tulip woke up on the train(Atticus says that it all started a week ago)? There was a correlation between the two facts just like Tulip said in the episode.
Because when Emilia got rid of One-One he somehow managed to got on Tulips pod. Then we see the First episode. Tulip is brought onto the snow. While Tulip is still asleep the pod take One-One to the Snow Men location, not far from Tulip, then she wakes up and meets One-One.
While this is happening with Tulip, Emilia needs a Corgi orb (we see a Corgi in the final episode - The Engine) and sends the Steward to get it. This means if it weren't for Tulip and One-One and their adventures on the Corgi Car, sooner or later the Steward would have found the Corgi orb and killed all Corgi or even worse, changed the into Ugly Irvines.
Every time I hear Tulip I always think of Ellie from the Last of Us and when ever I play the Last of Us I always hear Tulip
