      This sounds great but might have to take time to make the video as I know you don’t keep very many hard to keep species. Although the plecos and puffers would definitely be on that list

      I wonder if killifish would make good beginner or intermediate fish.

    • @ThatDutchIdiot
      @ThatDutchIdiot 6 років тому +2

      Killi are a tad more difficult, although interesting fish to keep. They love jumping, so keep the top closed at all times. And they can be fairly aggresive towards other fish, so people sometimes just keep them alone in a smaller tank. If you find the right species, you can easily manage them in a small group (like say 9, 3 males and 6 females)

    Those Bettas you showed are gorgeous! I keep about 20 in separate containers and they are easy to keep. Regular water changes, and small feedings of once to twice a day and they should live for 2 to 6 years. The Bolivian Rams are definitely a safer choice for beginners than the German ones. A tank with Cherry barbs, cardinal tetras and the pepper cory (Corydoras Paleatus) cats would be great together.

      With the white clouds, what do you guys think is a good fish as centerpiece. Like for example, i think a blue gourami would look good with the white clouds. Some fish thats big but doesnt overpower white clouds :v

      Sounds like list getting better. Unless you are having problems with some kind of tetras i suggest lumping with neon as neon and other tetras. Angelfishes is still controversial but from what I heard it's the breeds. Wild type sounds like the most hardy so far unless you heard from other breeders about how reliable the other types are. I also would lump swordfish and mollies together since require aquarium salts at least for beginners. I won't push fully freshwater for neither unless you are intermediate.

    Great beginner fish selection. like the list, Danio, Barbs, Rasbora, Always forget about the African tetras but that is a good choice. Good to hear you put the common goldfish and Angelfish back on the list (with specifications.) ... those have always been classics. 😁

    Excelent suggestions!!!! I would add to the ten fish, an eleventh: the Zebra Danio (very appreciated in Brazil, where it is also known as "Paulistinha". Robust, easy-going, highly decorative, always active... It renders lots of rewarding at the cost of very simple keeping.

    Ditto on Rasboras!! My rasbora hets are bullet proof! I forgot to plug in my heater once in the middle of winter. The following morning I noticed they seemed stressed & caught the temperature swing before any had died. They bounced back immediately the same day! I've made a lot of mistakes & they are very forgiving!

    That was the best description of cories I've ever heard. Jump on the Kuhli Wagon everyone - they are so much fun! For those who like loaches, (and who doesn't!?) I would suggest the very mild mannered Zebra loach. Around 4 inches, they like to shoal together, very active, and they will interact with other fish. Basically a miniature clown loach. I would also suggest either the sparkling gourami for small tanks or the paradise fish as a replacement for your Betta scenario or Angelfish scenario.

    • @liono1118

      I tried buying khulis twice and both times my batches died. In their quarantine tank. In 1 day. Either they are NOT hardy or my store had a bad shipment.

      The gourami is alive and doing great.

    Good to see people putting the word out about the gold fish. This is a really neat and wonderful fish to keep, but they need proper care. I had six small gold fish in a twenty gallon tank and they lasted less that a year because I thought they were easy to care for since every child has had a gold fish bowel here and there.
    Twenty gallons per fish is recommended and they are really best off in outdoor ponds and the larger the better.

    My MIL bought 5 thirty cent goldfish last year to put in her pond, she put them in a massive tank in September due to weather getting colder (we live in Minnesota) and I was astounded by how much they grew, they're all about 5+ inches and I know they'll get bigger this summer, we can't wait to see their growth at the end of the summer.

      Most fish are indeterminate growers which is something I don’t believe was really mentioned in this video, with goldfish being one of the most common breeds for it, as long as a fish has proper care they will grow just about as big as they comfortably can in their environment

    I have to say, I was never really a livebearer fan until I kinda forced myself to try them out. I got some mollies and now I really like em, they bred in my tank all on their own, they are super active, the tank is just always alive and they constantly begging for food, eating just about anything. Only downside is that they poop a lot and breed a lot(or at least mine do) so be prepared to deal with them accordingly.

    One of the other easiest fish to take care of based on my experience is the molly, they are extremely hardy, and like temperatures around 75 degrees fahrenheit, they are so hardy in fact, if acclimated correctly they can be transferred to freshwater. And they can produce hybrids with a few select species of fish. I have produced a batch of hybrids before and they were amazing. It was a Guppy Molly mix, sadly they are all sterile. Though, I want to see if the hybrid can be acclimated to saltwater. I don't think it's been done before and it would look cool.

    Loved the list except goldfish. Because they poop a lot and that can change the water chemistry drastically. Also they are suitable for cooler waters. I would add dwarf neon rainbows, pearl and dwarf rainbow gourami and endlers too. I keep all these fish and they, from my experience, can tolerate a novice's inability to control fluctuations in parameters.

      Goldfish don't produce anymore waste than any other fish. They dont magically make more waste than what they are fed. They are products of what they are fed. Most commercial Goldfish food is garbage. Loaded with wheat and rice meal which makes them seem like they poop alot. Feed them quality vege and protein food and their waste load diminishes significantly. Biggest problem with goldfish is they grow large and fast. That's when people dump them illegally in local waterways.

      I couldn't agree more about the dwarf gouramis, though they can be aggressive toward fish of around the same size. They don't hassle neons etc. In my experience, they make a nice centerpiece fish in a tank with endlers, etc.
      By the way endlers are about the coolest fish ever! Especially red check and cobras!

      I am new to the hobby, so I'm not sure what happened exactly, but I believe my dwarf gourami killed all 5 of my xray tetras within 2 days. I have a 13 gallon tank with some tetras, a platy, and a guppy. The gourami was absolutely fine for the first 3 weeks and then he suddenly become super aggressive nipping and harassing all of my xray tetras. I removed him as soon as I noticed this, but by that point it was too late. All 5 of the xray tetras were dead within 2 days. Not sure what triggered this. I test the water frequently and everything checked out. Any ideas?

    All great information.. I started with guppies .. now I have a bunch of them .. like 50 plus, some are still very small fry kept in a breeder box for now. Neon tetras are really pretty and tend to school with the guppies. I recently added some very small black fin?? tetras .. everyone is playing nicely. If I could add anything to the list (not a fish) are mystery snails.. at the moment I have over 100 .. most are in a small grow out tank but these are blue foot Ivory Mystery Snails.. so pretty. tfs

      Savanna The Aqua Llama , I got them from a local Petco. Sometimes they have them, then they don't! The Green Lantern Platy if you have them longer and feed brine shrimp and blood worms they get an irredecent green blue shimmery color in the black part of their pattern! They're very pretty! The fish stores usually have more of those then the Blue Mickey Mouse Platy! !!

Side note I have an empty 120 gallon tank and am a beginner, it only has moss balls because I'm an over planner/researcher. Hi, I believe most live bearers are great beginners fish. As that what bring me into this hobbies. I still can remember when i am young and saw the guppies giving birth live, is so amazing that i wish i can have a few myself.
    But true to what you say, guppies nowadays are a little weak. Therefore my 8 beginners fish will be:
    1) Guppies
    2) Swordtails
    3) Platy
    4) Mollies
    5) Cory
    6) betta
    7) Cherry barbs
    8) Angelfish
    I have only 8 as i believe this are the fish that are hardy and will be attractive as in a community tank and alsp might not pose too much of an issue to me and other fish keepers. That is my humble opinion. Thank you.

    • @myfishcorner
      @myfishcorner 6 років тому

      Hi Kelly, i believe for mollies a little aquarium salt should do the trick. For platies and guppies, parasites can avoid when first bought. Add med for internal and external parasites and it should kill off whatever germs that the fish carry.

    Graumi I would say are really good beginner fish because from my experience they are hardy and forgiving I had on a long time ago when I was a beginner and I didn’t change the water for 6 months I know I was horrible in a tank with a betta ( it was 2.5 gallons) but both of them lived and I still have a graumi like 3 years later she’s in a 65 gallon Community tank now

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish 6 років тому

      I probably wouldn't put a gourami and betta together, but it _might_ work if both are pretty docile. It also helps if the tank is heavily planted or has lots of decor for the weaker fish to hide behind. Gouramis tend to eat the same thing betta fish do - floating pellets, community tank flakes or pellets, frozen bloodworms, etc. Good luck!
