- In this video we use a rented material lift to raise 40 foot trusses onto 10 foot sidewalls of a 40x56 pole barn.
This is the most cost effective way we could determine to do this. Rented the lift on Friday afternoon and brought it back Monday morning and they only charged 1 day rental.
It’s actually hilarious how well this worked. I can’t wait to put up my building!
You guys made this look so easy. Getting ready to set trusses on my 32' wide barn next week. I was really stressing about doing it by hand or renting an expensive fork truck. So glad I found your video, never thought of doing it this way. Thanks for sharing!

How come you didn't just angle the lift. Then lift the truss all the way up then turn it square? Would have been way easier. Great video though and what i plan to do when i build my 40' by 40' shop.
I thought the EXACT same thing. This is likely similar to how me and my partner will be rising the roof on our 40x40 shop, we have the footing and kneel wall poured. Working on leveling the floor area so we can have the floor poured, then we will be onto framing and such!

It's frustrating how many UA-cam videos present incorrect solutions to tasks that can be dangerous. Just because they "dodged a bullet" doesn't mean they practiced good judgment. Best practice dictates that you never lift any truss by its peak, although one might get by if the truss is shorter than 20 feet. It's a very weak point in a truss. Trusses should be lifted by two points along the chord. Furthermore, trusses between 30 and 60 feet in length need to be lifted with a spreader bar with the lift lines angled out from the lift points to where they connect to the spreader, so that the forces don't try to fold the truss in half. These two escaped serious injury this time, but this method is not recommended.
Or they could have screwed a temporary member horizontally down from the top chords, thus distributing the weight. I was pondering this method myself the other day, but don't want to rent a duct jack. Doing this in the dirt is a bit shady too, but a sheet of 3/4 over what appears to be packed clay is more than ample. I say A+ because they got it done, under budget and without a serious amount of hassle. Anyone can armchair quarterback after the fact. Not many can come up with a good solution like this in my book. They get my thumbs up!

What are your centers? Looks like 5 ft.
Spacing is four feet. 56'/14 spaces=4 feet.
