This film is another example of Tom Cruise's ability to guide a film through production and come away with a really polished and popular product. He has done wonders with the Mission: Impossible series and others. He obviously cares about providing quality films.
Loved this film more than the original, even felt the emotional arc of Goose’s death here more so than in the first film! That third act is worth the IMAX Dolby tickets! Great that I saw it in theatres! Hope it gets sound and editing nominations at least!
This is gonna be huge in the tech categories. I don’t know if it’ll win, but I could see this getting a healthy amount of noms. I was thinking earlier that The Batman and Avatar would be the big contenders, but it looks like Top Gun will stay in the conversation all the way to awards season. Lady Gaga’s song has a good chance of winning, too.
People absolutely love this film. I’m usually a pretentious film snob and even I loved it haha. It will score at least 1 Oscar Nomination. Would love to see it get some big ones.
You can also hear "Hold My Hand" faintly in the background in one of the first scenes at the bar where there's no one there. I forget specifically where but it's there. Trust me bro and expert.
I think that Top Gun: Maverick could snag one of those 8, 9, or 10 slots for Best Picture. It's critical and box office record-breaking reception could very easily slide into a nomination. I think this is the Mad Max Fury Road or Dune nomination for the year, tho Avatar 2 could also be in that spot. Tho yeah, Ford v Ferrari is more than likely the best comparison. I also only see Tom Cruise getting in Best Lead Actor only if the category this year is very weak. And the nomination is seen as a career nomination.
From what I’ve heard, it sounds like Best Actor is *not* a weak category this year, so yeah I think we can rule him out. It would be a shock if he got in
If it's going to be nominated (for best picture) then I think Top Gun Maverick should especially get nominated in the best Director category, in my opinion.
The hype is getting a bit out of hand (specially with some people suggesting Cruise for actor) but Sound, Song, Editing and maybe Cinematography should be in the bag, and with it being "old-school" i think it has a chance at picture
Aside from cruise as best actor I have zero problem with it being nominated for awards like best picture. The academy needs to start nominating movies that people actually resonate with . I’m sorry but coda is not a picture that in 5 years people are going to look back on and reminisce much at all. I’m not saying top gun should Win but it has all the tools to be nominated, it’s one of the best movies of the entire year and just because it’s a blockbuster Should not mean there should be a bias against it
I loved this movie loved the original just rewatched the original. I think this new film could get oscar nominations and will really deserve it. I think it will get a best picture nom
Yes, the aerial combat scenes were totally awesome. 10/10 for the those, and those are what made the price of admission worth it. However, the plot and characters were just too cheesy for me. 5/10 for those. For that reason, although I think it's a great fun movie to see in IMAX, I personally wouldn't nominate it for Best Picture (unless all the contenders this year suck).
At 2:40 - “Really hetero energy”??? Not everything needs to be gay. The overwhelming majority of the population of earth has very hetero energy. Every living thing on earth exists SOLEY due to very hetero energy. You can be as gay as you want, but you still exist due to “very hetero energy”. It’s gross insinuating that not being gay is some sort of negative. Go enjoy a constantly virtue signaling Marvel movie that sucks despite being as gay and woke as possible. 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈 May I interest you in The Eternals? Imagine someone saying, “This is a good movie even though it has very strong gay energy”. If that sounds wrong, so does the inverse.
You can guarantee 100% the movie wins best sound editing (or whatever the sound Oscar is called). The sound is the best I have ever heard in a movie. I was in the Navy as an aircrewman and on an aircraft carrier and it was so good I could SMELL the paint, jet fuel, and cleaning supplies from the hip when I HEARD it. I mean this literally.
If anyone gets acting nominations (and no one probably will), it’s going to be either Miles Teller or Glen Powell. My heart wants Val Kilmer as an appropriate career send-off, but that’s definitely not happening.
I can see this getting Sound for the plane noises and also Editing and perhaps VFX. I feel like the outside shots of the jets might help it get in for Cinematography
If you weren't actually alive in the 80s then you won't really be able to understand the nostalgia of Top Gun 1986. I so it aged 14 in 86. It's a generational thing, IMO. Cheers for the review. Nice job.
I agree with you guys on everything. But for some reason i think there will be an aggressive push to get Cruise in for best actor. Even if they know it won’t happen. And if by chance a nomination happens i think they will be happy. The nomination has potential IMO.
This movie was very good. It's one of those cases where the sequel is better than the original. I'm glad it accomplished everything it set out to do without bending to external influences/pressures. Sometimes we just need a good movie and that's what we get here.
Definitely a strong chance to win sound, editing and song. I think it gets nominated for picture. No acting nominations, though. Cinematography and score are the big unknowns.
Just watched the original for the first time last night and wasn’t super impressed, though I respect those who grew up with it. Just walked out of the theater after seeing this one and it was incredible!!! I hope it gets some wins or at least nominations.
I love Top Gun Maverick and its easily the best film in the last few years but there is no chance it will win best picture. Hollywood is not going give the award to a movie that doesn't force feed the audience a diversity, LGBT and liberal politics agenda.
Great movie but I think the praise has been hyperbolic. Credit for being one of the few reviewers not calling this the greatest thing since electricity
@@maciedixon3983 Never called it bad but I think there's some issues with the story that people completely ignore because the movie makes them feel good
Top Gun’s hype is a bit out of hand, but it’s possible, specially with the 10 slots assured. If a blockbuster gets in, I’d like it to be EEAAO, but I think everything will come to see how campaigns go, and I feel like Mavericks campaign will be quite strong (maybe even stronger than Black Panther’s)
I don’t understand the massive love for this movie. While there are great action sequences and the story is fine, the screen plane is terrible and I couldn’t stop rolling my eyes in so many parts.
Ok, but that kid in the beginning has one the best like deliveries in a blockbuster. "Earth." So perfect.
Bro, it was so funny. It’s all cause of his delivery.

I just saw it with my family 2 days ago. My parents waited 36 years for that moment and it was worth the wait
I just realized this is the first time we’ve seen Brother Bro in over a month - we’ve missed you!!!

Best original song best original score best director best cinematography

It’s one of the best films of the year in my opinion.
The love for the new Top Gun is similar to the love for the original when it came out. But it seems like you had to be there in 1986 to appreciate it.

Brother Bro😩😩 it's been a minute
Tom Cruise Mapother IV is a great actor. Great flick. Im sick of CGI Marvel crap. This movie has actors that actually had to work for their money.
If it's going to be nominated (for best picture) then I think Top Gun Maverick should especially get nominated in the best Director category, in my opinion.
I liked he clip before it started, Tom thanking you for coming to the theater.
Tom Cruise has developed into one of those rare producer-auteurs like David O. Selznick. And he's a movie star!

What do you think about the rectal penetration scene? Maybe a little too much?
Agree! Cruise for actor is a long shot, but the more technical categories would be fine

It's definitely getting best music cuz hold my hand is a masterpiece.
Top Gun Maverick >>>>> Everything Everywhere All At Once
I‘m glad all relevant awards last season ignored the bafoonery that was the hype for No Way Home.
I know it’s not the typical song for the Oscar’s to nominate, but ain’t nobody talking about One Republic’s song. It’s so catchy
Is that the one playing during the beach scene with the team? That was the best song!

Are we getting a review for "Men" soon?
Sound. Editing. Song. Picture. Let’s go!
I like your observations about the film. I think I'm gonna have to buy this film as my comfort film. Gosh, it was so satisfying.
If anyone gets acting nominations (and no one probably will), it’s going to be either Miles Teller or Glen Powell. My heart wants Val Kilmer as an appropriate career send-off, but that’s definitely not happening.
Old man here. Val Kilmer best supporting actor!!
Gaga coming for best original song nomination. Doja cat also getting a nomination for her song from elvis
i don't think doja will get nominated though cause that song has sample in it
@@saltedcaramel88 oh, I didnt know that.
I loved the movie. It gave me exactly what I wanted out of Top Gun 2
I hope that this will be Mad Max Fury Road of the year!
happy to see brother bro back and tbh this movie and EEAO should both be locks for best picture just based on their impact on film this year
Best indie and best blockbuster
I doubt it'll get anything but sound and maybe editing. I don't think it's an above the line contender.
it will get nominated; trust me . . .it appeals to all the old, white, male, members of the Academy as well as the younger gen
i really hope this is the Dune of 2022 and Gaga is nominated for 2 oscars
One of the best sequels in the movie history. Love it! ❤
I can see this getting Sound for the plane noises and also Editing and perhaps VFX. I feel like the outside shots of the jets might help it get in for Cinematography
If there was an Oscar for arrogance and a massively bloated ego, Cruise would have more Oscars than anyone.
This aged poorly, as it got both DGA & PGA nominations already
great review, as usual, and agree with all the comments and opinions
sup boys. FIRST!
Why is there no Oscar for special effects aka stunts.

It will get nominations in the technical categories. Would not be surprised if the film gets nom for best picture.
Cant wait for the first Oscar prediction video. Last Year you made that starting in agust what about now?
Review Hustle with Adam Sandler
Saw this in 4d & it was worth every penny

Lol ur all for woke barf. There no way u enjoyed this movie.

it might get techs
The MAGA observation was so on point. Probably the only little issue I have to an otherwise flawless film imo
Since when Is patriotism related to MAGA energy? Their observation on that made no sense at all.

EEAAO isn’t a BLOCKBUSTER- it’s a tiny little A24 that’s made respectable money at the box office.
