  • Before superhero movies started to suck and annoy everyone, there was a little movie called #Megamind that came out during the golden years of superhero movies. It became a beloved movie by DreamWorks fans, but it never became a big franchise like How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda, or Madagascar. It last been over ten years since the movie release, in those ten years, Megamind did get a short film and a video game a while back it never got a sequel or a tv series until they announced last year that a TV series was coming our way. And it was certainly surprising as everyone has moved on.
The series later got its title, a synopsis, and now the first poster is out and that's enough for me to talk about.
The poster was unveiled in an issue of Kidscreen Magazine, and features the titular character posing like a classic supervillain, and looking like he's up to no good, and yet the series is about Megamind becoming a superhero after years of villainy in Metrocity through his quest to become a social media influencer and a true superhero. The concept of this series is interesting, but it does have the potential to be a big success, that reminds everyone why Megamind was so great but could also be a colossal failure that should have let this movie rest peacefully.
The original writers of the film, Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons, will be executive producers with Eric Fogel. The cast list hasn't officially been announced yet, but's likely some of the old actors will become back.
The Megamind TV series is supposed to release on Peacock in 2024, but due to the writer's strikes in the US, that might get moved as how far they are into production is unknown. DreamWorks isn't shouting from the rooftops about this tv series, but I will.
I always liked Megamind, it's one of my top animated movies. It was fun, looked amazing, and had a touching message about acceptance and identity that still lives up to this day.
The movie was also basically a parody of Superman, and DreamWorks loves to make fun of other media. Shrek began it, Megamind continued it, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken kinda didn't do it well, but its box office failure has more to do with marketing failure. How Megamind's Guide To Defending Your City will turn out is still up for debate.
