    I guess that the Titian of Bravos is based on the Colossus of Rhodes on The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It stood for 54 years until an earthquake caused it to topple over and it was never rebuilt. In 7th ad the remnants of the statue were melted down.
    In the books, the lower classes of Bravvos wear very colorful clothing while the Nobels tend to wear Black.

      Thank you for your comment! I saw on wikia that the Titan of Braavos was based upon the Colossus of Rhodes. What I'd like to know is, was there a civilization in the Game of Thrones universe like Ancient Greece since that is how the statue is dressed? Is there something about that in the books?

    Another entertaining and insightful video! I loved the info on macrame and the ruffled collars. II didn't realize that Braavos was inspired by 16th cent. Dutch merchants but now it's so obvious! Great work as always! :)

    It's so messed up that masters give bed slaves tear tattoos (on top of the slavery being terrible already, obviously) . I would have assumed it was something like an abstraction of the genital area, but a tear is so much worse.

    Interesting information about Macrame, I had no idea of it's long history. But having lived through the 1970's I can tell you it was VERY popular

    I'm so sorry I haven't been commenting these last few videos, it's been an eventful few weeks, what with job hunting and helping my mom paint her house. But I'll just say your videos are just as awesome as ever and I'm learning so much from them.
    Also, yay! You showed my designs! I was afraid you'd lost them or something when they didn't appear in the previous GoT video. I have 2 more coming your way, this time they're my version Jon and Dany's wedding costumes. Something interesting that I noticed in my research is that, with a few exceptions, the wedding costumes for the characters are either opposing colors or dark and light colors. I know it's mostly to denote their house loyalty, but it's more than that I feel. Like Sansa's pale gold Lannister wedding dress showing her vulnerability and powerlessness vs. Tyrion's dark red wedding costume showing his guilt and hatred for his family. So I incorporated that into my design. Hope you like it when you see it.

      Hi Tatiana, so great to see you on here! I didn't forget, it's just that the last GOTs video was already long, so I thought I'd wait until this series (although as you know I do have a propensity to losing things in my email!) I'm most likely doing 2 or 3 more Essos - one on Slaver's bay region, another on Qarth and then the Dothraki. I have another 2 or so submissions so if you can get them to me I'd love to include them. I'm very excited to see what you come up with for Dany an Jon's wedding.
      Another thing I wanted to mention is that I had to trim up your description a bit. Sorry about that - it's just that I have a limit. I'm now on Facebook so I might feature your work there and then I can put the full description, because I also had to cut some of India's description too. You both have such great detail that I hate to leave out. Anyhoo, I hope you are doing well and that your country is in the recovery stages.

      It's ok, I understand. I tend to get lengthy, so as long as they got the basic gist of it it's fine. The Jon and Dany designs are almost done, I just hit a brick wall when it came to painting them, but hopefully I'll get it done soon.
      I also designed a dress for Cheryl Blossom from CW's Riverdale. Don't really know if you watch it, it's super cliche, but it's something of a guilty pleasure of mine, and the character of Cheryl has such a distinct style that it inspired me to design something for her older, future femme fatale self. If you like, I can send it to you. It'd be great to get your opinion.
      Oh, and where are you on Facebook so I can follow you?

    • @Costume_CO
      @Costume_CO  7 років тому

      I haven't watched Riverdale, but I've heard good things! Send it too. Some of my viewers are fans and I can include it in my next non-Game of Thrones video.

    Hi there,
    I thought that maybe the braid on Tycho Nestoris costume might be a reference to the "Zopforden" (Order of the Braid), also called "Orden von der Locke" that austrian Duke Albrecht III. founded in the second half of the 14th century. Here's a portrait of him with the braid-insignia of the order:
    upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/26/Albrecht_Dritte_Habsburg1.jpg
    During the late middle ages it was a popular practice for influential nobles to found knights orders but none of Albrechts were long lived. The "Zopforden" kind of stayed in the memory of the people to this day, as it gave Albrecht his epithet "mit dem Zopf" (with the braid). He is said to have founded the order in memory of his second wife Beatrix von Zollern.
    Might not mean anything, but I thought I'd mention it. :)
    Besides, I love how your analysis is always so in-depth and well researched - keep up the great work!
    Greetings from Austria!

    I thought the first guy was an Astapori noble?

    • @Costume_CO
      @Costume_CO  6 років тому

      Could be. What part of the video?

    • @GullibleTarget
      @GullibleTarget 5 років тому

      @@Costume_CO 4:15. The silhouette of his costume looked similar to the representative of Yunkai to me. All this time I thought he was Astapori.
      Spoiler alert
      Which only confuses me more. Why would Dany kill an ambassador from a foreign nation where she holds no power but spares a slavetrader who falls under her jurisdiction. After having executed a young former slave for killing a terrorist. Maybe she was just wingin' it. Who cares; It's easier to make sense of the costumes, thanks to your videos. I really enjoy them.
