As a Japanese painter named Nik, I found the first few pages of Yumi and the Nightmare painter to be... uncanny. I don't know whether to be flattered or embarrassed that Brandon somehow knew how to write teenage me into his book
I absolutely LOVE this book. Thank you so much for writing it, Brandon. As a fan of Cosmere, Kimi no Nawa, FF X, and Hikaru no Go, this was a knock out for me!
@princessthyemis well for 1 thing I am an audio book listener, and I actually got physical version a couple of days ago, so they have started shipping Yumi.
Yumi and the Nightmare painter was Tress of the Emerald sea level amazing. I like this new Brandon style, it is very refreshing and warm. Please continue writing books like these. You are the best
I finished Yumi and the Nightmare Painter today. I found it insightful, different and more cosmere interesting than I expected. When they first were talking about the 4 projects it seemed 4 was going to be Cosmere heavy but both 1 and now 3 have a lot in that is ... intriguing to the casual arcanist :) I absolutely love the way Brandon does romance (I know that is not a universal view) but Warbreaker, Wax and Steris, Tress and Charlie and now this are just right in my wheelhouse. Love how he has managed to keep the interactions and progress of those arcs so interesting even as he depicts a more epic fantasy plot alongside them. A really skillful and beautiful piece of art and despite really enjoying the first two secret projects I think this has beaten them. I found I wanted to read it almost stright through. So in only two days the whole thing is done which is a record for me as I usually space out my reading of Brandon's books. Highly recommended but anyone reading this comment doesn't need a recommendation as they are already here.
I put "reading more" as my new year's resolution because I hadn't read at all for almost a decade. Your books sucked me in, I started with mistborn and I was hooked. 7 months later I am about to run out of books in the cosmere. I mix reading from the book with listening to the audiobooks and I can't thank you and the team enough. I just ordered Yumi, and if you open another Kickstarter in the future I will definitely go for it. Thanks a lot!
Yumi & the Nightmare Painter is a beautiful dance of art-based magic, traumatic pasts, and loving characters longing for a sense of purpose. I’m very much looking forward to posting my review! Thank you Sanderson for another wonderful entry in the Cosmere!
I got my copy of Yumi and the Nightmare Painter yesterday and it's gorgeous! I'd already read the ebook by then, but I am very tempted to read it again. It's my favorite book of the year so far.
I can't wait to read it! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the title! I still have yet to read Frugal Wizard -- I'm finishing the First Law books first! Altough I ADORED Tress and the Emerald Sea!!!!!
Started reading this third book and expected something more akin to the Reckoners or the second secret project, which is to say something a bit more YA focused, not quite my cup of tea. But then I kept reading and, much to the dismay of my eyes, I ended up reading the entire book in just 2.5 days. Absolutely loved it, it just kept getting better and better. Cant wait until I get the physical copy, so I can read it again :D
Yumi and the Nightmare Painter has been probably my favorite Cosmere novel to read in a long time. It wasn't as heavy as Stormlight, and was more polished than some of the earlier Cosmere novels. I'm also not unbiased... I truly enjoy Japanese and Korean culture, history, art, and food... so this was a great experience to read, having been in Japan earlier this year for two weeks it brought back many happy memories. Thank you Brandon!
Brandon is right, Yumi and Painter is THE best book of the 3 secret projects. I might even say one of the best cosmere books. Rarely do I get so sucked into a book that I finish it within 3 days. And when I say rarely, I mean RARELY, I liked Tress, but it took me about a month to finish reading. Honestly the speed at which I read Yumi was akin to the peak of my Wheel of Time days when I just kept consuming each book like a paper shredder. Those were the days. No Cosmere book has got me this hooked before.
I agree about Yumi and the Nightmare Painter (AND about Frugal Wizard's for margin art). Anyway, about the book: With both of the other projects I started with audiobook and eBook, but finished with the physical version (halfway through SP2), but I started the audiobook of SP3, and couldn't stop before I was finished! The audio descriptions of the artwork sounds amazing, so I am looking forward to get my physical book!!
I didnt think I would liked this book from the name and cover art. But it was wonderful, id have to say Brandons writing abilities are at his best here. I'd honestly love to see him rewrite Elantris with all his experience and skill he has developed over the years. Great work Brandon and the team at Dragonsteel!
The Year of the Sanderson is about to become the Century of the Sanderson. This man is already extremely famous but he has all the making of a household name. Also I would die if an anime studio picked up Stormlight
YAYYYYYY I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!!!! I got the h/b backerkit but waited for the spotify so i could listen at work :3c but this is absolutely my favorite so far! hopeeefully i can figure out where my secret project 2 package ended up tho, the mail got me goofing this week
Just got the email saying that my copy of YatNP has shipped. Very excited to see artwork. I loved the story, definitely went is some directions that I was not anticipating. By the way the art for all of the secret projects have been amazing.
Fantastic timing! I just finished my last book and then saw this video and the good news. Finally I can get Yumi and the Nightmare Painter (I missed the kickstarter ...). Will start reading tonight.
After seeing how gorgeous the book looks I decided to go and buy it. My first purchase from Dragonsteel simply because I'm in the UK and Shipping does add a little bit more then I'd usually spend on a book.
I immediately went out and purchased it. I missed the kickstarter and I really like the premium covers. Still waiting for my frugal wizard copy to copy!
Still hoping to see Brandon collaborate with Adrian Tchaikovsky on the Alien Legal Takeover story idea, as he worked for years as a legal executive and is of course an incredible author himself. The book also might be done within a month given the speed both usually write books at.
So excited to get my physical copy of the Yumi and The Nightmare Painter. Alas, it did not arrive before my vacation to visit a friend, but here's hoping it will be here by the time I get back.
You definitely didn't "lose" any time you got to spend with your kids- we'll all be here ready to read when it's ready to be read, work life balance and all that. :-)
i remember that you, in a livestream or video, supported a lot of Book campains on kickstarter, i wonder what happend to most of them? will we get an update to them at any time?🤔🤔

@@scrubware That's the correct emotion!
It is so good!
I couldn’t put it down!
It's funny that "Titanic 2: Sink Harder" gets a chuckle from Brando every single time.
I didn’t know I wanted Brandalf, but now that I know about it I want nothing else. My next DND character shall be Brandalf to compensate
As someone who has never played DND, make sure his highschool nickname was B Money.
That's my name
The art and “design alone” he said. Well played, Brandon. Also loved the book. My favourite of the standalones so far
I noticed that too 🤣
I binged my way through Yumi and its honestly my favorite! I completely agree that the art and design in this is phenomenal
I regret binging it! I am probably going to reread it three or four times!
I absolutely LOVE this book. Thank you so much for writing it, Brandon. As a fan of Cosmere, Kimi no Nawa, FF X, and Hikaru no Go, this was a knock out for me!
The art on this book is INCREDIBLE. Never have been so amased by a cover.
Yumi and the Nightmare Painter is incredible. Literally just finished rereading it.

When you're watching Brando talk about the Yumi bundles going out, while opening my Yumi bundle... Perfection
So far, this is my favorite of the SP that have come out. Probably my favorite Sanderson stand alone.
Yumi & the Nightmare Painter is a beautiful dance of art-based magic, traumatic pasts, and loving characters longing for a sense of purpose. I’m very much looking forward to posting my review! Thank you Sanderson for another wonderful entry in the Cosmere!
Agreed, Design is TOTALLY worth it.
Yumi was amazing! My favorite Cosmere stand alone, dethroning Warbreaker.
I got my copy of Yumi and the Nightmare Painter yesterday and it's gorgeous! I'd already read the ebook by then, but I am very tempted to read it again. It's my favorite book of the year so far.
I finished Yumi in one sitting. It is very enjoyable. Great work Sir.
Really enjoyed Yumi!
The beard looks excellent. Rock would be proud!
You are a true inspiration Brandon, writing this from Lincoln, your books have changed my life path for the better.
I can't wait to read it! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the title! I still have yet to read Frugal Wizard -- I'm finishing the First Law books first! Altough I ADORED Tress and the Emerald Sea!!!!!

Love the beard on Brandon, it suits him really well c:

a stormlight anime would be amazing, but I'd love to see it in an arcane style 3d animation
Stormlight and Mistborn, as animations, would be my dream
Stormlight would be best live action with heavy CGI, in my opinion
Yumi And The Nightmare Painter is awesome! It gives me Kimi Na Wa/Weathering with you/Suzume vibes and the art is stunning!!!
I absolutely adored Yumi. One of those books I wish I could experience again for the first time. ❤
I'm wearing simplified Stormlight too!
My copy of Yumi just arrived! Crazy it's going to be the first one I read in hardcover before reading the PDF.
The box is set to arrive on the 18th, I am very excited to have the book in my hands!
Can’t wait for Brandolf!
This has to be the first time I'm eager for a book's arrival because of the art and not the actual story, having already finished the story.
I got this on so fast I'm stoked. Frugal wizard was late for me to so I swear I got these like 3 weeks apart from each other. Best 3 weeks ever.
can't wait to get it, the cover looks GORGEOUS
The cover is gorgeous for SP3. I wish I discovered your books years ago
devoured yumi, absolutely loved it
Brandon Sanderson CAN TOUCH YOU!
I don't even watch anime or read manga so I'm sure most of the references went over my head but I loved Yumi and the Nightmare Painter.
