    Dick Cavett has been nominated for eleven Emmy awards (the most recent in 2012 for the HBO special, Mel Brooks and Dick Cavett Together Again), and won three. Spanning five decades, Dick Cavett’s television career has defined excellence in the interview format. He started at ABC in 1968, and also enjoyed success on PBS, USA, and CNBC.

    His most recent television successes were the September 2014 PBS special, Dick Cavett’s Watergate, followed April 2015 by Dick Cavett’s Vietnam. He has appeared in movies, tv specials, tv commercials, and several Broadway plays. He starred in an off-Broadway production ofHellman v. McCarthy in 2014 and reprised the role at Theatre 40 in LA February 2015.

    Cavett has published four books beginning with Cavett (1974) and Eye on Cavett (1983), co-authored with Christopher Porterfield. His two recent books -- Talk Show: Confrontations, Pointed Commentary, and Off-Screen Secrets (2010) and Brief Encounters: Conversations, Magic moments, and Assorted Hijinks(October 2014) are both collections of his online opinion column, written for The New York Times since 2007. Additionally, he has written for The New Yorker, TV Guide, Vanity Fair, and elsewhere.

    I’d no idea William Holden was so intelligent and articulate. Odd, for an actor (sorry, actors out there). I really admire him for his honest and real dedication to animal conservation

    I think we all can agree what a pleasure it is to watch two people carry out an intelligent conversation about an interesting subject without insults or any other kind of vulgarity.

    His compassion for wildlife was remarkable. He worked to protect them. He's so right. Hunters kill off the best.

    The real tragedy of trophy hunting in countries with poor governance is that (a) the fees are completely mismanaged and (b) the permitting process is corrupted to maximize the number of permits given. It's an extractive industry wrapped in corruption.

    What a great man, debunking the hunters' claim that their fees actually contribute to wildlife preservation. B.S. He was so ahead of his time, calling out how hunters always chose the strongest, biggest game to shoot, weakening the whole herd

      Network. He was so great in that. I am totally obsessed with him you know in a good way. That was the TRUTH. We're living through it now. He was super smart subtle and wise. There IS no better combo in a human. Blessings to you.

      @@bethelle9099 He was gorgeous!!! Dimples are my weakness too. I don't know about him but they all came from farms. The nutrition was top notch and they still had mothers and 3 meals a day. My people were in Central Texas the past 150 years. They were extremely fit and sports oriented. My Father was a WW2 veteran who trained pilots here in the US but still managed to lose all his best friends. They were MEN!

    When I was about ten years old my seventeen year old cousin saw 'Picnic' five times in one week. I asked her why and she said 'William Holden'.

    William Holden was an amazing person. He's my favorite actor and that he was so ahead of his time concerning animal conservation is wonderful to see. Humans killing animals for sport should be in jail. It's disgusting.

    A true real man and I'd loved to have hung out with him even though I couldn't have kept up with him and great to see he was one of the first ones to protect the animals, personally I'd have the death penalty on poachers and trophy hunters should be jailed and I agree with Holden that they need culled at times

    The part @ 07:45 when telling the story of the hunter is an example of what Bill Holden was- thoughtful, macho but unafraid to think things through and see them for what they really were.
    He just couldn't give himself a break.

    Handsome, effortless actor, articulate, how can you go wrong with him? I appreciate his thoughts on hunting. Hunters are just a bunch of cowards, just like toreros: since they weren't born with any skill or gift, they must used innocents to show off.

    I have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rare much like all of the other Dick Cavett interviews

      I suppose that it makes them feel like real men. I suppose that they're trying to compensate for whatever inadequacies they perceive in themselves. I'm no psychologist though, so I don't know.

      it’s occured to you it’s not entirely free from consequences? and not so much about the high from the knowledge of killing a large animal, which happens all the time and wouldn’t last very long, as the experience around it? and that you’re not nature’s great judge to denounce historically practiced things from worlds you don’t understand? i could say the same about mountain climbing exchanging the endangerment of the animal for that of a human, but who am i to, i’ve never looked into it

      I'm a Vegetarian. I do think it is sick to go Hunting for Sport. Since, it is much healthier to be a Vegetarian- people I know who claim it is OK that they hung animals because they eat them are also doing. Holden mentioned he didn't HUnt anymore, but he didn't mention he was a Vegetariian either. I don't think being a Vegetariian was as a big a thing in the 1970's when this Video was filmed than it is now.

    How naive some of the suggestions are. Controlled hunted regulated by the government that earns hard foreign currency = corrupt government expands the hunt and expands the hunt ... Always look at where the incentive is. Hunting is pathetic.

      Never read that William Holden used any drugs at all. It was the alcohol that destroyed him. It was sad the way his life ended.

    His thoughts on big game hunting are flawed. Trophy hunting takes a specimen at its peak which is one step from serious decline. Taking only the best allows the immature to live and eventually become the best.
