As a first generation American Beatlemaniac, The Beatles Story was essential back then. We would be able to listen to their voices whenever we wanted. This set was the only way you could get that cd That Beatles Story cd was not sold individually while the other cds in this box were able to be purchased individually over here. Enjoyed this video a lot.
Back when the Beatles lps we're released in the '60's, those of us in the U.S. didn't have easy access to the U.K. imports. We grew up with the Capitol Records versions. Most stores didn't sell imports as stock items. But it's great to have this box and the sets of mono and stereo U.K. mixes. Thanks for the video.
Hey Beatle Dave enjoyed this video, I grew up listening to all the Beatles U.S. albums & will always love them! And even though the UK Beatles master tapes when received by Capitol records were mixed to sound heavier & with added reverb they had a kick in sound & were in most cases a great listen for me & still is. But back in the day unless you found out about the UK albums from the import section of your local record shop & bought them-most Americans would not know the difference in album song lineup & sound mixes! In the 1970’s bought some import Beatles albums & from there I immediately enjoyed 29:34 the dryer sound mixes. And it was later that I found out(way before the cd releases) that the UK albums were the way the Beatles & George Martin wanted them to be heard & in mono too & I bought them. Now getting back to the U.S. Beatles Albums box after reading thorough reviews when this set came out the mixes Apple used aren’t all of the true U.S. Capitol album mixes & quite a few of the mono & Stereo tracks were lifted from the 2009 UK Stereo & mono Beatles boxes & tweaked a little. I don’t want to put a damper on the U.S.Albums Box but other than the faithful album reproductions & inner sleeves some of the mixes are not. The Beatles Capitol Versions Vol. 1&2 are much closer to the Capitol mono/stereo mixes by Dave Dexter Jr.( though they also have some issues too). Now I don’t know if this was because Apple couldn’t obtain all the U.S. mono/stereo mixes as they did on the earlier Capitol versions Vol.1&2 boxes? The best way to listen to U.S. or UK Beatles mixes is to needle drop & play the original albums on your stereo system. Don’t get me wrong the Beatles cd box sets are nice, I just wanted to validate- as I also have my own cd box sets. If they sound good to your ears then by all means enjoy them!
The record jackets being more of a matte finish is actually accurate to original 1960s US albums. The jackets are in line with the mono box in that they are absolutely perfect replicas of the original albums, and it's honestly the main thing that's been bugging me to buy these. I sometimes like to listen to the Beatles US chronology as it's a different way to listen to them, but as a younger fan I don't really have any sentimentality towards what Capitol did to the sound, so putting them all into playlists using the tracks from my mono box suits me fine.
Hi Beatle Dave! Greetings from the lovely state of Massachusetts! I liked your review on the U.S. albums box set. I own all the original UK CDs plus Past Masters two disc collection. Being a little younger, I got Beatle albums as second hand copies. So I’ve always had good memories of many of the American versions. Most of the American albums were well executed. But by the time of Yesterday and Today and Revolver, Capitol Records haphazardly assembled the tracks. As a result, I feel those albums are a letdown. The Beatles Again! AKA Hey Jude was a nice collection of singles, B-sides and tracks from Capitol and Apple. From what I read the album was a huge success reaching number two! Enjoyed the video. Looking forward to viewing more.
Thank you for your comments, much appreciated,in the UK the original USA albums are quite hard to come by,I do have many of the Beatles capital albums,I have always liked them, once again thank you for your kind comments, cheers, Dave
HI BEATLE DAVE GREAT VIDEO ON SHOWING YOUR BEATLES USA CD BOX SET. I AGREE IT IS WELL WORTH BUYING. AND LISTENING TO. KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC VIDEOS. TAKE CARE.
Only the US box set has the mono version of Thank You Girl, which is on the British Rarities album in the UK. But that is on the Capitol, Collectors Items album, which is not for sale. Some call that a bootleg album. I have a copy, but like it says on the record, it's not for sale. I do think that is really a Capitol album.
Although I grew up with them, I have no use for Capitol's Beatle records. I do admit, this set is well made and very nicely put together. Nice touch with the appropriate inner sleeves. I concur with you that Apple should have put the mono and stereo together back when they did the UK cds. Thanks for another cool video, Dave.
Thank you for your comments, much appreciated,I still have a soft spot for the USA Beatles albums because they are so different to the UK versions, cheers, Dave
Great to see you talking about this box set mate!!! I did have but I did sell it off.... I wish that I didn't do that. And now it is $$$ to get it here!!! We did rip off the Beatles Albums here in the US LOL!!!! Great video and see you later my friend!!!
those 3 tracks from Revolver that were added to the Y and T album are different mix versions than what appeared on the UK Revolver lp. Martin had to supply 3 songs to Capitol in a hurry and since Revolver had not been mixed down completely, he rush mixed those 3 tracks, making them quite unique. Now... Im not too sure what mixes are on the Revolver CD in the box set. Maybe they were replaced with the "new" versions. Ill have to go back and read the notes in the book that comes with the box.
It’s my understanding that the Capitol albums Vol.1 & 2 actually have all the correct mixes that appeared on the American LPs in the sixties.. This 2014 box while beautifully packaged, contain the mixes that appear on the mono and stereo boxes from 2009.
F.Y.I. - George Matin picked the three songs to put on Yesterday and Today, So it was Martin that shorted John on Revolver, and not anyone in the US. The reason that the US LP's have less tracks is to do with publishing. In the UK, publishing is charged by the album, and the the US publishing is charged by the track. So putting out albums with 3 less tracks saved the record labels a ton of money. This was done with rvery artist, not just The Beatles. And growing up in America, we never knew the difference until CD's took over. Keep up the content and take care...
Well Andrew from " Parlogram auctions," said that those CD' s of American albums sound swell, but personally they were here in my home town to be bought, but i can' t get used to their " gatefold," looks,so i would never buy those, because i love original looks. Nice one Dave.😎P.S.You as a man from " original Beatles, country" i' m suprised you got your self " less worth U.S.copy."
Great job on this video, bailey is a cool looking dog, thank you for sharing him. I always wondered, do you think there's a chance that they used Mr Martins mixes for this set
Well, I'm not keen about CD's. But your other idea made me do this video, and for that I'm truly grateful to you, Dave! ua-cam.com/video/SzPYR4NjdOE/v-deo.html
I have the Capitol Albums vol 1 and 2 and always wondered why they didn’t go further ? At least these 2 volumes had the original US (fake stereo) mixes. The recent US box used the UK mixes ( but obviously not on Rubber Soul and Yesterday and Today) I love hearing that false start on I’m Looking through you. It is my hope that one day, we get a reissue box set in both mono and „full dimensional stereo“ of the Capitol albums.. the way they were released in the US. what do you think Dave?
Hi Dave I'm pretty new to your channel but I have watched quite a few of your videos, the last one being the one where you mention what you would like to add to your collection of which I'm pretty much in need of a lot of stuff you mentioned, anyway Dave I'm currently working in derby town centre and just wanted to ask you is there any good record shops in and around derby where I might be able to find some Beatles items, keep the videos coming Dave all the best Martin 👍
Derby has a great little record shop called BPM records, it's at blacksmith yard, just off sadlergate, , it's run by a great chap also called Dave, lol, sells lots of second hand records, plus some new ones, always a great selection, hope you find something that you are after, cheers, Dave
Actually the Capitol Years Vol 1 and Vol 2 are way different from this Cd release of the US albums (the other boxes had the Dave Dexter and Bill Miller mixes and this one doesn’t) and iNMHO both sets of boxes are a miss because of clumsy packaging. One day the US and the UK will get it right and no one will know or care.😅

Up until about 1976 the " Magical Mystery Tour" was not available in the UK. It was originally a US album, only a double EP in the UK.

I don't think they are exactly the same mixes. Quite a difference in When I get home, I'll cry Instead, The Word, and And I Love Her to name a few.
