I think what makes Vegeta so much better than Goku whether some of us choose to acknowledge it or not, is that he's a no nonsense killer. The fact that he has evolved as a character and morhped into a family man is also wonderful. Despite his love for his family and the Earth, he never lost that killer instint. My personal favorite version of Vegeta was planet Namek Vegeta. The ferocity at which he fought, the bodies he racked up and that I don't give a shit attitude was the best in my opinion.

Vegeta eventually surpassed Goku in super Saiyan. Then Goku needed assistance going to SSG. Vegeta achieved it on his own. Then Goku needed kaioken with blue, but vegeta surpassed that with blue alone. Now with the yardrat training, vegeta has surpassed Goku in that.
