- On April 23, 24 & 25 of 2004 we visited BNSF's Chillicothe Subdivision along the former Santa Fe (AT&SF) transcon. Locations visited included Romeoville, Mazon, Kinsman, Kernan, Streator, Leeds, Ancona, Toluca, La Rose, Chillicothe, & Streator. By this time BNSF power was prevalent but Santa Fe and predecessor locomotives from the BN & Conrail were still common. We saw many patched and unpatched locomotives including yellowbonnets & warbonnets. Noteworthy power from the Santa Fe included SD75Ms, 9-44CWs, 8-40CWs, GP60s, GP60Ms, GP50s, GP35s, and SD40-2s.

This is an epic video! I can rewatch it over and over again! Love the horns and the trains screaming at speed! My favorite catch was at 13:11, the Bluebonnet with the 3 CSX Engines along with a Montana Rail Link and Burlington Northern all on 1 train
The golden age of the BNSF.
What does that mean the Golden age 🤔
Thank you for the memories, I took My first trip out west in December of 03 just before New Years, We took The Chief back and Thats when My love for SD75s began.
7:15 with the money maker meet shot
awesome footage all around the good old days wish I was grabbing footage myself back then but was onto 5 yrs old and an aspiring foamer at the time
Thank you Brian i believe Santa Fe trains i was kind seen Santa Fe trains 🚂 love David ☺️
Seeing these Dash 9s (some of which are as old as or similar age to me) makes me feel really old.
Boy I miss these consists. (and the horns) Now, everything on BNSF is an ugly widecab GE the same sounding/tuned horn on all of them. Two of the many reason I no longer photograph trains.
0:10 what’s the horn on the front unit?
The classic Narrow Font Nathan K3LA. That 7/8” pipe made those things howl.
Back when trains in general were more fun to watch because you never know what you were gonna see....but i totally understand todays railroading its all about the money and stupid emissions compliance(mainly in California) and the generic gevos make them pockets ger fatter.
