- When I first tested the 4060ti 8GB I experienced some things that had me wondering if the 8GB of VRAM was limiting the performance of the GPU in the VR games I tested at the resolution, refresh rate and settings I'd used. To put my curiosity to rest I purchased a 16GB 4060ti and ran it and the 8GB 4060ti through the same 12 games (namely Breachers, Red Matter 2, Pavlov, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, Beat Saber, Contractors, Into the Radius, Half Life Alyx, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and Lone Echo 2) to see if I experienced the same stuttering I did in my first video with the 8GB model, and to see whether or not the additional VRAM would get us any increased performance or not?

Thanks for this. Glad you figured out why some of your older content were not working out as they should.
You are the only one who test VR performance.Thank you for your help 👍
Bro fax, need more vr performance videos
Please include VRChat into this conversation about VRAM. Since VRChat's entire point is seeing other peoples' avatars, each with unique textures and shaders, it'd theoretically be the ultimate test for VRAM capacity for VR.
I wish you tested with Fallout 4, Skyrim and No Man's sky. These games are the ones might need these extra Vram. I really hope you would make a part 2 for this test with these games.
You have earned a sub, thank you for doing vr benchmarks!
Much appreciated!
Great video, like always!
Yep. I'm about to decide to buy a new graphics card. 4080 or a 7900xtx. Both enough memory and power. What is your recommendation here after all the tests?
you should do a review on the rtx 2060 since you've done videos on other budget cards and it's one of the more popular cards on steam hardware survey.
why is the render resolution 4704 by 2384? just got my first pc with a 4060ti coming thursday. i got it strictly for vr, paid 900$ for a prebuilt with ryzen 7 5700 and the 4060ti
my voice wont be picked up at all with any mic i try using, ive used airpods, gaming headsets, earbuds, and the built in mic on my computer but my voice jsut wont be picked up, any idea why?
bought my 4060 through your amazon link, i didnt know which 4060 to choose but i needed it for vr so your review helped
Going from a 1650, to this, im hyped to finally have frames in vr and be able to render shit better in blender and unity
This is a test for the Ti version, expect an average of 20% worse, plus with only 8gb of vram, blender and heavy unity projects will stutter
Great job, thank you!
Great review! Comparison to 7800xt would be nice, considering they are in the same price bracket, i wonder how it performs.
7800XT is the next one on my list.
@@Maraksot78looking forward to your video
Also looking forward to that! It is on my wishlist for coming black friday :) als thx for including ACC!@@Maraksot78
Thanks for this. I have the 4060ti 16gb and really want to know the difference! Bty what are your settings in oculus debug tool? Are you on the quest 3 yet or moving to it?
He’s using the quest 2
The only setting I change in ODT is I set Link Sharpening to Normal. I leave everything else at the default. While I do like to play around and tweak stuff like that, I think most people go for the easy plug and play method. Plus it kinda represents a worst case scenario, where people who like doing that kind of tweaking and tuning can potentially squeeze out some additional performance beyond what I show.
I did pre-order a Quest 3 and got it on October 10th, but I've been using a Quest 2 for the past two years and did all the testing for this video with it prior to the Quest 3 launch.
i have the 4060ti with 8gb of vram and while streaming and playing ghost of tabor my gpu maxs out and i get alot of stuttering any tips?
The fact that midrange cards now days can push (usually) stable 4k VR Games is insane to me! Imagine trying this on the 6GB 1060 back then!
GPU technology has come a long way. The 1060 6GB was a crazy awesome card for the money at the time though. Not really up to the task of VR, but it was a killer 1080p 60Hz Ultra settings card. At $250 it felt like an amazing deal. It and the 8GB RX 580 were the best bang for the buck cards there for a good while.
ive been thinking about building a gaming pc for PC Vr with my quest 3. This might be what im looking for in a card
Hey man, I have a rt 7800 xt graphics card. When I run the steam VR performance test, all of the parts in my pc are more than enough but it says there's something wrong with my GPU. Is my graphics card not good enough or it there something else wrong with it? Any help i can get with this could really help!
It could just be the Steam VR performance test hasn't been updated to recognize the 7800xt yet. I'm currently working on a 7800XT VR performance video and it works fantastic, so you're good man.
@@Maraksot78 Hey, thanks a lot for telling me, but I did figure out why it wasn't working and now it runs steam vr with incredible performance
The stuttering may be also due to the low memory bandwidth? That's a thing i'm worried about. Or the PCIe slot being only half used. If that makes any difference, it may not. Should not.
I was wondering the same thing. Maybe that makes a more noticeable difference in VR.
At the moment my PC still has a 1080 card which I use for VR. After upgrading to the Quest3 I am thinking about also upgrading my graphics card. What would be the best bang for the buck card for use with VR (Airlink or VD)?
get the rtx 5070
when 5060ti/5070 come out in a year, otherways probably some 4070(4070/s,4070ti/s)
Is gpu usage supposed to fluctuate from 79 to 99 in vr games? I see that there’s lots of demand on your cpu and it might be cpu bound in some scenarios.
It'll do that since you have the frame rate locked to 120, 90, 80 or 72fps. Depending on what's on screen it's easier or more difficult for the GPU to render the scene, so GPU usage will fluctuate up and down depending on how hard it has to work to output your desired frame rate. If the frame rate wasn't being capped then you'd see GPU usage at 100% (or really close to it) all the time and the frame rate would be fluctuating up and down depending on what the GPU has to render.
Afterburner is showing the CPU usage too and if you look at it you'll notice there's never even a single CPU core that's maxed out. The high render resolutions you want to use for VR always put more strain on the GPU than the CPU.
@@Maraksot78 wow that was really in depth thanks
I'm constantly seeing videos of people pushing these cards as much as they can to see when performance starts to dip. Like bumping the resolution into the sky, so I'm just sitting here like "that's the problem." Especially for vr stuff where it doesn't matter how high the resolution is if it doesn't match what your headset can put out, you're just making the pc work harder for very little added detail. Be different on a monitor where you can have much higher resolutions depending on the monitor and can actually see the increase in quality. I don't see a Rift S or something putting out 4k resolution.
I just ordered the Asus 4060ti 16GB regardless of the bad press. Ive been using a GTX1070 since 2016 and its served me very well.
I bought one a few months ago love it but not hard it love it when coming from a 1050ti that been in loyal services for 6 years lol when my red devil 5700xt went out I put the good ol 1050ti back in always keep it in a box ready to be back inside service
Heeeck yes. I have been waiting for this video. Will it make a difference. Or will it not. It may be a huge deal, or it may be negligible.
It seems that the price difference is not justified for flat screen gaming. But is it different for VR? I play only two types of games. Retro 2d, and VR. One of them works fine on literally anything, the other is still an expensive hobby. So yea. Literally looking to get a card for only VR. I hope this is it, the video may give answers so i better get watching and stop writing.
Thank you for your comment.
So if you only have the budget for a 4060ti, buying the 16gb version won’t help much, right?
Is the 7700XT a better choice at this budget?
I don't know. I haven't tested a 7700xt personally yet, but I do have one on hand and will be testing it soon.
I thought about going amd but when I bought my 5700xt and it died the month after my warranty ended and found out this was a common issue I didn’t want to go back
@@rileyenia9388 That's really sad.
Most of the people who buy AMD graphics cards in Taiwan always recommend buying PowerColor.
But I saved money for another 4 months and finally bought a 4070TI 😆
anyone know how to make my oculus app use my rtx 4060ti 16gb instead of my igpu
can you make a video on the rtx 4060ti 16gb and 8gb on vrchat?
rtx 4060 for rift s good choice?
Remember u are using obs to record that wats up a lot too, maybe use camera to record screen?
I have a separate PC with a capture card I record to, although I do use Oculus Mirror on the PC that's running the game, and I have noticed when Oculus Mirror is running it does cut into performance a little bit, but that was the only way to record footage with both the Oculus Performance graphs and Afterburner stats on screen at the same time; outside of just pointing a camera at my monitor, which I prefer not to do if I can help it.
So what Nvidia card would you recommend?? Value and performance. I've got a 3060ti thinking of upgrading to a 4070 now prices have settled.
My suggestion do not upgrade. 3060 ti already enough for 1080 p and almost 1440p. Unless if you want to upgrade to 4080 or a better card
@@XaIter0 Thanks for your reply. The new Super series is looks interesting. 4070 Super or 4070 TI Super. I’ve already built a new PC with the 7800X3D 😊
@@Let_the_fun_beginsurprisingly i came across your reply that i dont even remember:). Which graphics card did you buy?
@@XaIter0 I bought a 4080 Super
@@Let_the_fun_begin wow thats some high level graphics card dude
Have fun with it
Thank youuuu ❤
Can anyone comment on the standard RTX 4060 8gb?
Runs everything I want even modded on max 100fps++ RT disabled. I have a super tiny case and it barely fit. Non vr speaking
try doing the intel arc a770 again in vr
I have a suggestion. Could you do the gtx 1080 ti? It says it’s vr ready but I’m not really sure. Really it’s just a suggestion but it would be great to see you do a video about it.
Is there going to be a rtx 4090 review?
I'd love to get a 4090, and hope to be able to get one eventually. The channel only earns so much money and I have to buy all the GPU's I test; I don't have any kind of sponsor or partnership with any manufacturers to get them for free, so I've been trying to focus on the "more affordable" GPU's first.
WHERE IS QUEST3?
can you play half life alyx on 120hz with a 4060 ti 16gb
The performance was so close at 90Hz High Fidelity preset I didn't try it at 120Hz. You might be able to at Low quality settings, but I'm an eye candy lover, so I tend to go for better graphics and a llittle lower refresh rate. And in my opinion I feel 90Hz is plenty good enough for Alyx. 120hz is more for fast paced shooters and stuff, although 90Hz is fine for those too IMO.
does subnautica vr run well? is this card cable of medium settings on most games with 1440p resolution?
It might be to late but it's runs games great on 1440p and it should be able to play subnatica well on the 16gb model...
B650 PG LIGHTNING
RYZEN 7 X7800X3D
RTX 4060 TI 16GB
CORSAIR 16 G RAM DDR5
SHOULD THIS CONFIG. WORK FOR PCVR ??? 😊
Brilliantly but change the 4060 ti 16gb to 4070 12gb for same price but better performance
@@VENDETTA_HEHE thank you done i have demanded the rtx 4070 12Gb and i changed the mother board to B650 Eagle X AX.
@@karamhuawei236 oh that is nice! The X ax looks better than PG lightning too!
@@VENDETTA_HEHE thank you.
bonelab???
yep shoul test Skyrim VR with a modpack! 8gb is not enough with modded skyrim
The 4060ti 8GB seriously has some architectural and design flaws. The card suffers from severe frametime issues and constant stuttering whereas the larger vram model doesn’t have the constant stuttering issue. Nvidia should have simply launched 4060ti 16GB as a 380-400$ gpu and that's about it.
try beam ng vr
best testing never i seen :/
Are you blind? The right side clearly looks an performs better than the left. Meaning that they DONT look identical
If you use medium textures there is no difference, but the purpose of more vram is to push them higher. So a useless video here.
