【Volitional + ではないか】
let's do something, why don't we
Used when you want to strongly call out to someone, provoke them, or respond to provocation. When inviting normally, it's fine to use "~ましょう・ませんか". It’s stronger than just ようか, and tends to be used in things like speeches or calls to action.
一緒に〜しよう
一緒に〜しませんか
仕事のことは忘れて、楽しく飲もうではないか。
→仕事のことは忘れて、一緒に楽しく飲もう。
Let's forget about work and have fun drinking.
では、会議を始めようじゃないか。
→では、みんなで会議を始めよう。
Let's start the meeting then.
1. Ｘをしましょう。
Used when strongly inviting others to do X together.
男なら正々堂々と戦おうではないか。
If you're a man, let's fight fair and square.
困ったら、お互いに助け合おうではないか。
If we are in trouble, let's help each other.
２．Ｘをしよう
Used to express a strong will of "I will do X".
誰もこの問題を解けないの？それなら、私が解こうではないか。
Can no one solve this problem? In that case, I will solve it!
日本にいるうちに、食べれるだけの日本食を食べようではないか。
I will eat as much Japanese food as I can while I’m still in Japan.
Note: Both 1 and 2 are masculine and assertive in tone.
【Volitional + じゃないか】
"では" can sometimes become "じゃ".
優勝に向けて、チームで力を合わせようじゃないか。
Let's work together as a team towards the championship.
日本語を身につけるために頑張ろうじゃはないか。
Let's do our best to learn Japanese.
【Volitional + ではありませんか】
There's also a slightly more polite way of saying, "〜ようではありませんか."
国民のみなさん、一緒に日本を変えようではありませんか。
Hello citizens, let's work together to change Japan.
我々と共に新しい政治を始めようではありませんか。
Let's start a new political regime together.
(まさ先生、今日のレッスンから、ありがとうございま)今日の試合を負けないようではないか。
今日の試合を勝とうではないか。
Volitional Form of 負ける is 負けよう。So if you say 負けようではないか。gramatically it is correct. However, no one says "let's lose the game". So 勝とうではないか。is better!
