They actually took her out for the port? In 2008? Why? Why bother doing that? There would have been plenty of gamers, male and female alike, that would have totally played the game as her. Roll is still one of the most loved characters from the franchise.
They didn't even remove the stage select background in the Japanese version. EDIT: Also, 2-6 aren't made from this. They're made from their own flip phone versions. 4 and 5 have even gotten J2ME versions archived, but the versions of 2 and 3 used plus 6 are still missing.
I think the next best thing to having this would be if the creators of Mega Maker integrate this version of Roll as a playable character in a future update.
Aww, a couple of games where Roll is actually playable! It's about time. Really, really hoping what I found the other day for MM11 that looked like official art of Roll with her own armor was honestly official art, and not just a fan piece that did a reallllly good job of mimicing the official art.
Yeah, and in Powered Up they just give her a frickin' broom...how sexist is that? Worse than the American cartoon where they gave her a vacuum cannon, at least that was an effective weapon!

It's nice to play as Roll with a charge shot and all, but the music and sound effects are really off-putting. The MIDI music makes me think of older fangames.
I still find it absolutely heart-breaking that the mobile port of Mega Man 1 is a direct rip of this version of the game WITHOUT ROLL, and even more frustrating the end of the game uses this EXACT SPRITE OF ROLL just to taunt you. 😭

It can be emulated, but you need a phone OS emulator which can easily be found as part of various development kits. BREW and J2ME were common at the time (BREW being more suited to games like this) but Japan might have had their own ecosystem of mobile OSes so well...you'd need to research this.
Why is the sound effect sound like they are recorded with a baby's Vtech toy? I know this is a flip phone game but atleast try to make the sound effect clear!

If only we got this in 2012 instead of Megaman Xover. This game would've been a much better 25th anniversary Megaman game than what we really got.
