Hey Bob - it was what I had on the boat and I liked it better than the Surf 205, the 235, and HA194 on this wing.....and then I rode it with the DART 140. DART 140 is my favorite with the new HAs. That said the V200 is a close second. Hope that helps Tim
Still starting at 11.2mph and playing around with different speeds. This summer we created the "Toth" setting after our buddy Jason Toth where we brought it up to ~13mph. The new HAs are very adaptable so you can take it to whatever speed you'd like. Really fun to ride. I can't wait to speed test it. The older HA925 held up well at ~28mph. I think this new design will be able to hit 30mph. Best Tim
I got to try both...still love the hs1150...but i was able to go from 1st to 2nd with the ha1080 for the first time. Would the 1080 be a good wing foiler?
Did you order the HA1080 from us? :-) The HA1080 is fantastic for wing foiling. It's my go to for up/down conditions. So...if there some gusts that are 14-25mph but then some light spots 2-10mph - the glide on the HA1080 is crazy good. Also - it comes up very smoothly (similar to the MA series). Big fan. If is unsteady light wind, I will still pop up to a bigger wing. The HA880 and HA680 are fantastic for winging as well. Hope all is well John! Tim
hahaha -- totally! Johnny was out traveling and my buddy Eric is a little less awesome with the camera angles. For this video, thought expediency was better than beauty. It's hard to find clear days to hit the water up here in Seattle this time of the year. Happy New Year - Hope all is well Rob Best Tim
Great review and love your videos. For a heavier rider (100kg), how would you compare the low end and ease of pumping between the 1675 AFP and the new HAs 1180/1080? I primarily wingfoil, could I WF in light wind conditions here in the NW inland lakes on the 1180?
Very very different. The APF really is a pump foil --- think flat water SUP up to pump or dock start. It pops out of the water at ~3-4mph. I don't recommend it for wing foil. For light wind wing foil (if you're a good rider) HA1180 would be a good way to go. That or the MA1750, HS1850, or CF2050 are all good light wind foils. Happy to discuss if you want to give us a call. Best Tim
Happy new year guys! Notwithstanding your unbridled enthusiasm for this new HA series would you recommend HA 980/1080 over the MA 1000/1225? Wingfoiling in LB (lots of swell). No flat water to be had.
Hi Kurt -- there's absolutely nother wrong with the MA1000/MA1225. They ride fantastic and I love them both. The new HA is just faster top end speed and quicker turning. I'd keep your MA1000/MA1225 and add one of the smaller HA780,680 to the quicker. When I travel for wing foil I'll likely pack new HA880, 780, 680 MA1225, MA1000 Best, Tim
You don't need to (compensate by carving more) - but you can if you want to and it only increases the fun. Kick it up to 12.5mph or 13mph and this foil really comes to life. Best Tim
Hey guys! Primarily a behind the boat foiler (have an Axis T-23) and I'm currently riding a HS1250 and have an MA1000 which I really like on the first wave. Im 185lbs so pretty similar weight to you but not as good a rider. Looking into the new HA series and I really appreciate your review. The footage showed a bunch on the first wave but does the 880 have enough glide/lift for you on the second? Not as good a pumper as you guys and I like the second wave a little better so I'm torn between a HA1080 or could I go in-between and go 980? Sounds like the HA1080 compares closely to the HS1250 and I feel like I could go a little smaller so maybe I'm answering my own question? Thx.
You will be good on the HA880 or the HA980 -- you don't have to go HA1080 given how you're riding. We have them all in stock so just let us know if you want us to ship one out. These foils RIP! Best Tim
HA880 V200 is great. For me the HA880 with the DART140 is even better. Those are our two favorite for now but we'll keep experimenting. 205/235 too slow for this wing IMHO. Best tim
Good questions Jon! I've never really thought about it that way. Deeper - no. Bigger - not really. Faster cadence - yes. Now - technically when we increase cadence will we go deeper (maybe but likely not), bigger - yes if the foil starts to fall from the ski but NOT before. Remember (I saw that you saw our Oskar pump video) - it's about staying high. So long as you stay high with a nice fast pump cadence - you will not need to go deeper/bigger. Hope that helps and thank you for checking out our videos!
Are you around the Seattle area? We do demos at $300/hour but that includes instruction as well. When you say eFoil - are you on a foil drive? or a Lift w/ a conversion? I can make you a good deal on the CF300 tail -- email me at halflifet.5@gmail.com Best Tim
@powderproject13 -- feel free to email halflifet.5@gmail.com or call us (909) 698-0401 to discuss if you'd like. I don't like making general recommendations before understanding your wake, ability, and typical conditions. In general -- the HAs ride a bit big. So - without knowing your particulars - I think you're good on the HA680 or HA780 depending upon the factors above. Look forward to hearing from you. Best Tim
They decided we were too old to do videos! LOL -- just kidding. Plenty young at heart. No idea -- try unsubscribing and resubscribing. Sometimes it will take a day or two to receive the notice 'toast' but not as long as it took you to find the HA video. The new HAs are fantastic -- get one! Best, Tim
Great to hear you guys love it. I can’t wait to get on one. Curious why you chose the v tail - did you try others?

@@HALFLIFEVIDEOTim have you tried the speed 180 with the 880?
@@Powderproject13 yes. Works well….but still prefer Dart 140
We appreciate your dedication! Are you still riding your usual 11.2 mph with the 880, or did you need/want to speed the boat up?
