Just discovered your channel. I appreciate your transparency, and straightforwardness. It's a lifesaver to have people like you sharing their knowledge and professional talent with others. I'm just starting out from college and I'm looking to go into documentary film. Will probably be joining your course soon.

You are spot on with these tips! I've always experienced an uptick in work when I post regularly. When you're busy, that's great! But you still need to post and market!

Great tips Eric. So like a whole load of stuff out there - following what everyone else is doing, thinking like everyone else thinks, are the problem. Better to be different than follow the herd.

I agree to some of your points. However. Personally I think it’s important to take a break once a year. Burnout is a real thing, and if you get unmotivated and burnt out after a year of work it’s gonna cost you more than saving up and taking 3 months slow.

Sorry, but the slow season in November/December is VERY real for anyone working in the commercial/advertising field EXACTLY because all the major campaigns target Christmas and are therefore made ahead in October/early November, the agencies and clients "blew their load" already and then nothing is coming up as the new advertising budget starts with the New Year. It doesnt exactly help to just ignore it and keep waiting on your phone: on the contrary, it helps to take it into account and take it very seriously: you either look for extra work ahead, OR work on your portfolio, or take the month off, because otherwise you very well might just sit on your arse for 2 months.
